Hi I'm new to this , I'm doing the Dublin Marathon for the first time. I'm currently following the weekly training post from their FB page , anyone else following that ? I'm on week 4 and have been covering 18 -20 miles per week & started Irish Mountain Cardio also to incorporate dreaded hill work!

Still a long way to go in the training & races till race day though

Just got an email with wave assignments. Looks like 1st wave starts at 8:45 (instead of 9) and 20 mins between waves. No word yet on pacers and what waves they will be in

In Wave 1 as per my time prediction from last Christmas :-)

Wouldn't be so confident now after a disastrous few weeks of Achilles flare up

Got that email today. Can you still move down a wave?

You can move down on the day no problem.

There are some minor changes to the course map, and not just replacing the Airtricity logo with KBC:

    http://kbcdublinmarathon.ie/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/KBC_DM19-ROUTE-MAP-Final.pdf
    http://kbcdublinmarathon.ie/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/SSE-AT-DM18-ROUTE-MAP.pdf

Don't worry, the route is the same.

First obvious change is the addition of the depressing sounding "Drop Out Points". Will there be transport back to Merrion Square? Or just a bunch of volunteers whose job it is to point and laugh at the injured and wall hitters? I could have used one of these back in 2016, getting back to Merrion Square was one of the worst runs of my life!

It looks like the first water stop has moved to the North Circular Road. Where it was on Manor St. was always surprising and chaotic, so this looks like a good move.

There looks to be a few more official cheering zones, so maybe more DJs and music etc. on the course? Other than that, some minor moves of water stations etc. but that may be more down to the graphic designer than the reality of the location.

Numbers cannot be transferred for this event.

If you are looking to make changes to your own entry then contact the race organisers.

I wonder why the marathon is still measured in miles instead of KM's seen as Ireland moved to KM's in 2005.
I know some people prefer miles, but just seems a bit weird to not have switched by now.

It is measured in the metric system. Its official distance is 42,195m. If you're referring to the distance markers on the course, there are both mile and 5k markers (every km would be overkill)

I say more to do with graphic than anything

I'd always feel they could do with another water stop nearer to walkinstown roundabout and move thing a little around then and give water with the Lucozade spot at fosters but where they have some spots makes sense as road a little wider to helps with tables and logistics .

I'm quite sure the good people in St. John Ambulance, my son (a fully qualified nurse and paramedic and my daughter a fully trained first responder) included who give their time for free would be disgusted by you comment. I sincerely hope you never need their very professional help but if you ever do, give some credit and leave the crass comments out.

I don't think you could of took Singer's joke any more wrong if you tried.

 It was a "joke". I don't actually think the newly introduced drop out zones at this year's Dublin Marathon will be staffed with dedicated volunteers whose job it is to mock people who dropped out of a race.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,618 ✭✭✭Cartman78

The more I think about it a dedicated team of mockers would be brilliant idea around mile 20.....if you start walking they point and give you a dirty look, if you actually stop then they escalate their actions up to pointing and laughing :pac:

Could be a great motivational tool to get the legs moving again

It’s written on the website and Facebook that you can email a request to change up a wave before September 23rd.

The little b*llix on the Facebook messenger wasn't as helpful.

    Thanks :)

Edit: it says drop down a wave, nothing about up. But I'll email and see, I'll report back too

There was ' Drop out Zones' last year, but not publicised as such. Basically they are ' points' to go too, if you are pulling out , and there will be a system of transport that will get you back to the finish line area, without having to wait for a sweeper bus. They are specifically chosen to enable a vehicle get back to Merrion Square easily. The pick up area will be a little bit away from the route naturally. So you just get yourself to the spot on the course highlighted and will be directed to the chosen pick up point .. as a volunteer, we were told about them last year.

I really hate how sticky the Road is at fosters avenue from the spilled lucozade

5 euro P+P, and u have the option to get another pair of socks for a 5er...so 10 euro for two pairs isint all bad!

On a very minor point ,and only something I realised last night at a meeting for the Volunteers for the marathon

It is no longer the DCM ...the word city is gone from the title a number of years , so technically it should be the DM

Would it not be easier to include in the race pack?
