Mid-June, eh? You wouldn't think it looking at the weather some days. And we are checking the Weather forum every day for the first glimpse of summer! It'll be along any day now...we hope!

If you fancy trying your hand at forecasting the weather, the Weather forum has a dedicated weather forecast contest. Keep an eye out for the July predictions thread, but you can read through the forum's predictions for June and see how accurate people were here: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057984674. Meanwhile, the running tally has been updated after the conclusion of May's totting up.

There have been some fascinating threads and events over the past month. We might as well start in the Weather forum seeing as how we're already on the subject. M.T. Cranium, known for their daily weather forecast posts, shared some pictures of an unusual phenomenon to the Weather Pictures forum. In their area, they are experiencing a week of unusual atmospheric conditions, which is having a knock on effect. Local cottonwood trees have been sending out seed pods, which look like cotton wool, en masse and it's been resembling snow at times. Once they finally settle, it looks like there has been a smattering of snow.

Over in Galway, Storm 10 was fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of a dolphin that appeared outside Galway Harbour. They snapped a couple of great photos of the dplphin jumping out of the water, which you can see here: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=110232828#post110232828

If you're based in Dublin, the following thread may be of interest to you. Boardsies are sharing some unexpected views of Dublin and you may find a new route to explore or a view to witness. It was rumoured that the view from the rooftop of the Marker hotel is unbeatable in terms of city centre viewpoints; can any of you confirm this?

It is time to vote for this year's Television Awards. There are 25 categories to vote for this year, including classics like Best Actor and Actress, genre specific awards, and more unique categories such as Best Season Finale, Biggest Shark Jumper, and Worst Performance in a Mainstream Show. The survey will remain open until Thursday, June 20th.

One forum that we frequently reference is the Forum Games forum. They are currently in the process of organising a beers if you'd like to meet the people behind the names responsible for munches, lynches, finding spies, living out fantastical lives, testing your knowledge (or how unique you can be), and more.

While Werewolf was what started the forum, it has grown to include a variety of weird and wacky games. They have asked for the Codenames subforum to be repurposed to include all of these other games. Perhaps you'll find something of interest or to kill a few precious minutes: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1833. Meanwhile, signups are now open for the 2nd annual Codenames World Cup, which will take place in July.

We also highlight sporting outings, accomplishments, and events on a regular basis. The Boards Golf Society recently went to Thurles Golf Club with OffalyMedic picking up their first ever win. You can read some recaps in the thread where it seems that no matter how disappointed someone was with their play, they enjoyed the day out. The next outing will take place in Castleknock Golf Club on July 20th. The Boards Golf Society is also looking forward to and planning the captain's night outing. Rooms have been booked and you can find out more and put your name down here: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=110414773#post110414773

This year's Mentored Novices training plan for the Dublin City Marathon will soon get underway. The thread has been running for just over a month at this stage with people getting their preparations in order and sharing some advice already. If you'd like to get involved and follow the training plan, which kicks off on June 24th, you can follow the thread here: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057978706 . This is the 11th year that Boardsies have supported and mentored one another, so there's certainly going to be words of wisdom for any Dublin City Marathon newcomer.

Whether you're a newbie or an experienced runner, if you're a female athlete you may be interested in the Running Issues Specific to Women thread that got underway recently. This thread is designed to cover a broad range of topics and while anyone is welcome to contribute, the discussion itself should be kept about women.

If you're looking for an alternative running challenge, the 7th annual Irish beer mile championship has been announced. It tasks runners with drinking 1 (12oz) beer per lap and running 4 laps in total. At least one of the T&Cs is, "You must acknowledge that drinking 4 beers and running a mile is an irresponsible thing to do, but it's just a bit of juvenile fun." If it sounds like something you'd like to be a part of, you can find out more here: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057988383.

We're midway through the year, so if you're a cyclist it's a good time to take stock of how you're getting on in relation to your 2019 goals. It's interesting to reflect on what you had planned to accomplish this year and how on track you are to reaching these goals.

On the spectator side of sports, the American Football Fantasy Football forum has launched a franchise league. The draft is done and dusted and now the wheeling and dealing of trades begins.

Finally, we've been following fergal.b's quest to find their sunken classic wooden speedboat for quite some time. They have an underwater drone, but need calm water to use it. They are hopeful that summer will be along shortly and they'll be able to put it to the test. We'll be following the dedicated thread with bated breath.

That's it for this month. As always, thanks for reading! And let's hope the sun breaks out soon.
