    Hey everyone,

What are you people doing after working x hours in the evening? To me, it seems like you get home, drop off your bag, eat something, and the day is basically over..

    And suggestions?
    :)

Find a hobby. Five a-side, tag rugby, join a musical society, volunteer at a charity etc etc... use your imagination the day only starts when you finish work.

Cooking is a big part of my after work routine. As is doing stuff with the children. They would be the primary time uses for my evening.

Capoeira, BJJ, Tai Chi, Bo staff, and a form of martial arts movement where you try not to set off an electric buzzer while making complex movements - make up another chunk of my evenings in the week.

And meditation when I can fit it in. And sex when I feel I am up to it :)

For a good few years I stuck religiously to three evening activities a week. One for the brain (language classes - now speak that language more or less fluently), one for the body (martial arts) and one for the heart (painting/drawing classes). Kept my mind off work; my spirit balanced, and critically, out of the pub mid-week sessioning.

    This, ^^^

    And in addition....

If you like music keep a look out for gigs you may like to go to.

If you enjoy the films, rather then sit at home in front of Netflix, arrange a regular night or two to go to cinema with mates and a drink or two after.

Join a gym. It’s a brilliant way to keep fit and healthy. It’s enjoyable and likely you will meet like minded people and new friends.

    Interesting thread so I’m following.

It’s an easy rut to get into, especially if you’re wrecked and just feel like snoozing when you get home.

It can make you feel like you’re living to work instead of working to live!

Im usually very tired after work so its home, clean up the place a bit, do some chores, make dinner and veg out in front of the tv until bedtime. Im pretty sure there are lots like me. Its very hard to summon the energy to do more things after a hard days work.

Cooking while listening to music / podcasts
Yoga a few times a week - one actual class and another few using YouTube at home
Usually try to meet friends for dinner every other week
Boring stuff that has to be done like washing hair and cleaning
    Netflix before bed
Read kindle before going to sleep
Listen to headspace while going to sleep!

When I started working out of college I fell into this rut big time. If I wasn't falling asleep in front of the TV after having a crap takeaway dinner, I was down the local boozer on the mid-week sesh with my college mates who were at the same craic. Bad buzz, and it stayed that way for a few years until I figured out I wasn't living properly.

+1 for martial arts, good to keep fit, its terrible to get in a rut of watching tv aimlessly each night
I like to Simrace too when the kids are in bed

I agree 100%. I can say from experience, being that guy come Thursday and Friday who was fûcked.com and whose general health was compromised somewhat because of a job... the VERY SECOND, you feel your health / wellbeing / relationship / general enjoyment of life becoming compromised because of your work, INSTANTLY leave.

The time between jobs can be used to rest, recharge and reevaluate your life and career... Get back into employment reinvigorated, fresh, happy and rested. Put up too with NOTHING that isn’t in your contract. Flexibility is a byword in many cases for piss taking...Do your job to the agreed scope and required standard and go home. Happy.

    1. Sit around and enjoy not having children.

    2. Consider getting myself spayed

    3. Read / watch youtube

Before kids: playing World of Warcraft, a book or a movie before bed.
Now with small kids: cook children food, feed them, play, do the homework.
In 5 years: form a clan to play Fortnite or whatever kids play online these days ;)
