There is a serious risk that the main series Pokémon games for Switch are going to be a LoZ:BTW style extravaganza at E3.
Assuming that the new games have the same kind of scale and environmental depth as that game this could the game of 2019, and I don't even like Pokémon!

No chance of a legend of dragoon remaster or a sequel if sony won't be there this year, I'm very disappointed .

They are doing a direct before then.
Unfortunately I don't think they'll do that even tho the series is in desperate need of a facelift. Looking at what's been shown of the game it doesn't look like a significant enough home console upgrade from the 3DS ones; they'll run better tho.
Nintendo will show Animal Crossing & Luigi's Mansion 3. I don't think either will be a huge departure from the 3DS ones as they kinda perfected the formula in those games. Maybe they'll offer better co-op & graphics.

Yeah but think they will give a tease to convince us it's coming.

Would love to see Pikmin 4... or even a btw pikmin 3 is on the Switch. Pikmin 3 was far away the game of the year it came out, better than Last of Us. Fact.

Hey I'm normally one of the first to call FS out on his anti-PS rhetoric, but he's not wrong in his description of last year's E3 event for Sony. I thought it was quite elegant and definitely something different, but it was very poorly executed, confusing and they went too far with it. They had some great trailers, but it was a hard conference to watch.

At least give FS a chance to shout "THAT'S IT! MICROSOFT HAS WON THIS YEAR'S E3!!!!" before accusing him of trolling. We should take bets as to how long into the MS conference it takes; I predict 17 seconds.

Thought the Sony conference was over produced tripe. I'm glad they are going with the Direct style. I think it will serve them really well.

I think after the year Sony revealed Final Fantasy and Shenmue, they realised they made a mistake revealing them so early and couldn't really do much to match or top it after that. Nintendo realised it with Wii U but tried to cover themselves by switching to Directs.
I think Microsoft and the other conferences will go that way as well. Though with a supposed 2 hour show from MS, I'd be surprised if they don't reveal the next gen. I know they have Halo and Gears and will likely have a number of Third Party games, but to stretch it out to 2 hours, to show anything further out, would likely be next gen.
    Unless we get long demos.

But Nintendo's the only one I watch all of, while others are background. Though I believe MS is Sunday this year

Is anyone actually excited for anything this year outside of laughing at the cringe as usual? I'm hungry for Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay and details. Really not sure if they'll pull it off and I'm hoping some non-scripted gameplay might give me a clearer picture what it's really like.

Microsoft could have early stuff to show from those new studios they bought over the last two years.

They all do that to an extent tho.
Nintendo showed Metroid Prime 4 far too soon, same with Bayonetta 3 & stuff like Shin Megami Tensei V was revealed ages ago but haven't heard a tap from it since.
Microsoft then cancelled a few games that were shown several times too. Crackdown 3 wasn't what they wanted it to be either but was in the oven so long they had to make a decision on it.
I think its half those companies saying to fans stop asking about game X, its coming be patient. We know another 3D Zelda or Horizon Zero Dawn is in production but I don't feel I need to be told until it's actually been in development for a long while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,290 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

I think the Bayo 3 reveal was to go along with the Bayo 1&2 ports. The Mettoid Prime 4 was a combination of getting people to stop asking and because of the Samus Returns announcement. Imagine the reaction if they only announced a 3ds Metroid, especially after Federation Force. At least that's what I think I read. Maybe the Ttilogy port would've been enough. Dunno why the early SMT announcement, but then I've no interest in that series.

The main problem is the companies announce early so to avoid showing the same games the next time, they have to announce more games early. Vicious circle.

Honestly, i think if they can't show gameplay during the announcement, then they're too early. Remember the EA behind the scenes for Star Wars and Mass Effect. That was really early

You should as it's the best RPG franchise at the moment.

Would actually love to see more SMT5. The first reveal was just a teaser but they did show some impressive in game stuff last time.

However it could be a long way off. The team took ages to make Persona 5 and they have usually announced stuff very early with long waits for a release.

Well if you want to give one a try it's the series to go for. The turn based systems are really tactical and far better than any real time RPG and the series forgoes the anime bull**** and is much darker and philosophical than a standard Final Fantasy (with the exception of Persona which animes it up but usually does so really well). The series evolved from the western Wizardry RPG model than the Dragon Quest one of most JRPGs.

I hope to **** it's not some overhead camera Bollox. I'd love an avengers in the style of the spider-man game.

I also hope it's not a version of the Infinity War story. We just had that in the cinema, so would prefer something else from the comics.

tbh an Avengers game imo is impossible unless its overhead cameras bollox :D

looking at who is involved it could be FPS (deus ex) 3rd person (Tomb Raider) at this point if they just grabbed everything good from Anthem (the combat, literally the only good thing) they would have Iron man nailed down.

I've recently seen a few articles speculating that they'll announce it at E3, but it all struck me as filler with nothing other than hunches or guesswork to back it up. I still think it'll be released on current gen, but nothing to back that up other than my own hunch!

Dying Light 2 will be shown off during square Enix, hoping it's releasing this year.

    The E3 Coliseum website made a bit of a boo-boo with one of their listings, giving away some details about the Marvel Avengers panel. It has since been changed, but originally read;
Embrace your powers and join key members of the development team at Crystal Dynamics and the creative team at Marvel Games as they talk exclusively about the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers. This is the defining Avengers gaming experience: an epic action-adventure that combines cinematic storytelling with continuous single-player and co-operative gameplay. Moderated by Andrea Rene, assemble in teams up to four players, master extraordinary abilities, customize your heroes to fit your playstyle, and combine powers to defend an ever-expanding world under constant threat.

Honestly, it made me think of Anthem (but maybe that's the Javelin/Iron Man similarities subconsciously coming to the fore).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,904 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

From the original teaser 2 years back, it made it sound like the avengers were beaten and you either controlled a new character ala DC universe or controlled the avengers to help fight back. This is actually one of the most interesting E3 games for me as I'm mad to see how it plays.

Single player or co-op sounds like top down Bollox but action adventure sounds like Spiderman.

I kinda liked the concept of the cancelled THQ game - a co-op first person brawler. Think it was going to be based on the Secret Invasion storyline. Anyway, interested to see where this one goes (although I suspect it'll be "safe").

As there is a Netflix panel showing off TV shows to games, I have a feeling they will take advantage of their audience to show off the Witcher Netflix trailer. Then people will cause uproar until it is changed as seems to be the norm in 2019.

Kotaku confirmed a Watch Dogs 3 leak that will be shown at E3. "Called Watch Dogs Legion, set in London, you can recruit any NPC in the world and then control that NPC with everyone having a voice over, animation set and ability. It's supposed to be so ambitious, it has led to dev headaches and a further delay has been reported. More to come at E3."

Sounds ambitious alright, will be interesting to see this running.

I'd prefer a better balance between the first and second game. No need to go as serious as the first, but also no need for a side character with a facemask that displays emojis either.

The idea of being able to switch characters like that is very intriguing though. Will be interesting to see how it's implemented.

I just hope they bring back the Oirish people from the second Watch Dogs game. They weren't cringe-inducing at all.

I'm struggling to remember Irish accents in videogames and then remembered the Irish savages in Borderlands 2 who owned the pub. Violent drunkards. Sensitive people could have been outraged by the stereo-type.
I played a lot of that game drunk so it's kind of alright.

Personally, my expectations for Microsofts E3:

Announcement of specs for the next Xbox, like they did with the One X
    Announcement of new studio acquisition
    Xbox One games on PC
Push Gears 5 hard, will be interesting to see if the new direction will capture anyones imagination/attention.

They need more though. They need to have more software, more exclusives etc. People arnt going to buy the next Xbox if there is nothing decent on it. They will end up fighting the losing battle they have been doing for the past few years with Sony's exclusives.

Come on King Phil, we need something mind blowing.

Maybe mention the Xbox cloud thing & show Forza, Halo & a fable teaser while I ask why you guys didn't allow Lionhead the time to make a proper Fable 4 & not rush it out the door like Fable 3 was.

I think Overwatch deserves a mention here for having an Irish character voiced by an Irish actor that does a lot of their voicelines as Gaeilge.

Also running around spamming "The state of ya!" after you kill someone will never get old.

Oh and as for the bit in Broken Sword, it took me an age to figure out how to pass that bloody goat!!

Yeah, I forgot all about XCloud actually. Depending on how they charge for it, it ranges from mildly interesting to potential killer app. If it includes access to your own digital games in the Xbox Live or Gamepass/Gamepass ultimate price and it's a killer app. Have it's own subscription and it's way less interesting for me.

Sorry for going off topic but the Irish level made me think of the goat straight away. I like to think I figured that out all by myself but I honestly can't remember and now I'm tempted to buy the game on Android :o

I think they've said they'll be revealing 14 games from the studios they've formed/acquired. Given they only really formed/acquired some of the studios within the last 18 months, it's unclear how many of those 14 titles will be smaller indie-type titles and how many will be big AAA-type exclusives (and indeed how far those types of games may be from release).

In previous years I was always hoping for the games to make me want to buy an Xbox, particularly when the One X came out, but those games just never came, and at this stage I think I'd be better off waiting for the next gen Xbox console and taking advantage of backwards compatibility and Gamepass at that point. I don't think we'll see any 'last hurrah' system-selling exclusives for the Xbox One in this E3.
