I went there yesterday and spoke with some of the protestors and whilst I was telling one of them how I didn't belief in alot of the scaremongering and the science I was so rudely cursed and swore at by a pyscho middle aged woman in their camp who butted into our conversation and whilst I was advocating renewables.

Whole lot of them are counterproductive for their cause. They wouldn't hear of criciism of China or India as that is racism and it is a mish-mash of degenerates, pot smokers and trendy 20 something feminist women who tweet all day long but are as big a polluter as the rest of us.

I was there too. Forget about the pot smokers for a second. I think their intentions are good.

Ireland has per capita the 47th highest carbon footprint out of 210 countries. Every individual in Ireland has burned vastly more carbon than your average Chinese person or Indian. Yes there are more people living in those countries but Irish people cannot shrug their shoulders and point in the direction of the far East. Plus, look around your home, most of the items you have purchased down through the years, from cars to clothes to pcs were made in the far east. Irish people forget they are customers of the Chinese and Indians.

Whether you like it or not, global warming is happening and you are contributing to it, so is practically every other nation. It's a collective responsibility where we need to change our patterns of consumerism, change how we commute and modify our economic model that has worshipped capitalism at the expense of the climate. And before people jump down my throat citing socialist or communist sabre rattling, I would say you're way off the mark. I'm simply calling for us to become more self sufficient, not relying on other countries to produce the latest gadgets we think we need to satisfy some innate desire to have something shiny and new.

If they just drowned themselves in the liffey the amount of carbon credits would be through the roof.

And the London protestors really showed their colours when they went to McDonald's.

Yeah, I was convinced on the science and necessity of action to avoid catastrophe, but now that they've eaten fast food I want us all to die.

So here in Ireland where the annual average temperature is 10° C, you are prepared to forego all home heating, hot water and cooking? These are the cornerstone of western CO2 producing consumer consumption.

Yup same here, flying to the states in a few weeks i can’t wait...

Until i see hard evidence of the apocalipse then i’ll do my bit and before someone spouts about the scientists look at all the predictions they made over the last 50 years that were false..

All you need now is to remember where you parked the 4 x 4. We can't expect Saoirse and Breffini to walk to Gaelscoil tomorrow and have to pass those council estate scum on the way to the Compehensive

predictions turning out not to be as originally predicted means nothing, it does not mean every subsequent prediction is automatically wrong.
science can only go on the evidence it has, and things will change as new evidence comes to light.
the scientiffic concensus based on the evidence says global warming is happening and that humanity is contributing to it. until, and unless new evidence comes to light to show otherwise, then this is what is happening.
it doesn't matter ultimately whether you believe it or not, you can ultimately believe what you like, but it won't matter. things are changing and will change, and as those who are against the likes of extinction rebellion and even the reality of the existence of climate change itself, have not been able to, and look as if they cannot provide anything to argue against what is being said, then thankfully they will not be able to stop progress and modernisation.
extinction rebellion have won, they have got us talking about the issue, and changes are a coming.

ticking a box on a form does not make you of a religion.

Pointless replying to me because i don’t care what you think. Research the BS scientists have spouted about climate change in the past that never came true, but your ignorance will let in go in one ear and out the other. By the way global warming is coming whether you like it or not because as the sun ages it gets hotter.

ER haven’t won anything or never will, the only thing they won is showing people how stupid they look when filmed.

I find interesting that most people who bang on about climate change are the same morons that hate seeing a neighbour having a newer car than them in their driveway or have an extra exotic holiday more than they might have during the year., interesting.

The only thing that’s going to change pal is a few extra taxes that’s all, i promise you this i will fly in a airplane until the day i die.

    Not bitter at all.
Posted already climate change deniers are like trump supporters not interested in reality or facts. Poll mean nothing, science does though.

I’m not bitter either, i’m interested in facts, that’s if they are reliable which the past has shown otherwise.

If tackling climate changes interferes with politics, big business and money the changes will be very small, most changes will be about making things more efficient, insulation of houses etc. if you think planes will be grounded like the ER think will happen in 2025 you have another thing coming.

ER aren't saying planes will be grounded by 2025 actually the only people saying that are those lying about ER. Interested in facts mehole.

    I've linked to it.
Point out the no flights bit.
    It's not there.
Made it up to sneer at some kids.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,556 ✭✭✭Micky 32

Tell me this then, what does zero carbon mean by 2025? So you are saying zero carbon can be achieved with all the planes still in the sky?

The ER idiot with the stupid name that was on BBC (video was posted in the thread) said that if that’s what it takes, flights would need to be stopped.

You know carbon can be offset?

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,427 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

IT won't make much difference if Ireland the UK and basically the rest of Europe went zero carbon by 2025 when China power producers want to build another 300-500 coal powered stations by 2030.
We're just pissing in the wind with China and India.

The person who you don't know said something might have to happen. I'm convinced, throw out the whole body of scientific research right now.

Also the USA don't think much about climate change either.

Both of those countries are leaders in renuable energy sources and their governments have made large commitments to tackle climate change.

We were discussing ER and their nonsense. No scientist has stated that we needed zero emissions by 2025. Stop shifting the goalposts when you are wrong.

Stop twisting words , you are a spoofer. Offsetting carbon and zero carbon are 2 completely different things. Zero carbon can only be achieved by stop burning fossil fuels which would include cars, planes, home heating. Like i said it's not going to happen. However i wouldn't mind being stuck with a Tesla ( i'm aiming to get one ;-) but knowing ER they would have a problem with one of those too LOL

The president doesn't because he is an idiot. But individual states are making regulations and working on it.

Nope you are interpreting it that way to make smart remarks that's all.
