I will try to check the LNB, as said not easy for me to climb the roof.

I'd advise against it if in any way uncomfortable. I know I would be. Just call your local tv/aerial guy and he will sort it all out for you.

    How old is LNB?

Tired to place the other yesterday on WoS and it's out of stock

Customer care telling me it's no longer manufactured .

Followed up there email asking would it be back in stock again but that seems unlikely.

I too have issues with ITV. It never really was great in 3 years. I don't look at the other channels mentioned but ITV more often than not pixelates or tears up. I've been up to the dish and it is aligned but ITV just is very, very painful. I'm going to take it out of my bouquet again as more often than not it is unwatchable and frustrating…….

Please post all frequency and other details of that said faulty channel as I can check with mine that has no issues.

You do know when doing a full full scan many identical names come up on different frequency.

In over 20years i have not used that as i go through each channel with 7 days EPG and can set a timer or Auto Timer

Just to say it doesn't bother me that much and I won't be spending hours tracking an issue down. I only wanted to back up Wcool's experience with this channel. I do notice that ITV reports a significantly less SNR than all others I watch -20 would be normal. So it may be on the fringe and any small attenuation in the system will push it unstable.

Same details here on my H7S and no issues.

Reading through this thread is like trying to navigate a forum in Japanese. My head is fried. I'm a complete novice with this stuff.

Anyway, an old SkyHD box has died on the parents and they need something to replace it. Rang Sky and they only want them to sign up to SkyQ, but now is a chance to get them out of paying for a Sky sub when all they watch/record are the Irish channels & BBC/ITV.

If I were to get them a Zgemma H7S with a 500gb HDD would it allow them to easily switch between Irish & English channels, have a 7 day EPG for all the channels, set recordings, watch one channel whilst recording another - basically everything a SkyHD box does?

There is an unused still working Saorview aerial in the attic and all the cables for the SkyHD box are still in place.

Quick question, I was playing around with the EPG settings today as my Saorview channels were coming up blank. Anyways I made a change to the timelines in the EPG where it now shows programs that were on 45 minutes before the red line instead of 5. Thing is I want to change it back to 5 but I can't remember how I did it. Any help gratefully appreciated.

    Thats effectively what I had.

I found it grand to set up. Got a box with the UK channels preset up and just tuned in the Irish ones. All very very doable.

You have to turn bits on, and set up hard drive etc which is super easy. Have to turn on bits like can rewind the channel you are watching. But once it's done once that's it.

There is loads and loads of things you can do but importantly don't have to in order to have the basics like all the channels, live pause, record etc.

Series link not as slick as sky but works grand.

There is a few super super SUPER helpful people on this thread giving easy to follow spot on advice.

I'd say get it and set it up with an up to date openvix (swoofer on this thread recommends stay with 6.6.013 and he is super knowledgeable)

Openvix is like the operating system and flash it just means loading it etc ( I know that's likely not technically correct but easy way to understand)

Set it up, check everything and them leave it alone.

Don't be intimidated as can get over whelming with the depth of stuff on Internet.

For me - delighted went with it and easy enough set up.

Edit - I was originally the same re the thread but get the basics now.

I was one of the dinosaurs that still used the sky rf2 to 2 other TVs but haven't got the channels on those. Was told on here can set it up via iptv for €5.50 just haven't got a chance to try it yet. Do your parents have sky hd+ distributed to more than one tv?

Thanks that's a great help. I'm thinking I'll go with it.

No they didn't use RF on the box at all - just the one TV in the sitting room.

So with regards to the cabling. I've got two cables already for the Sky box, which will plug into the Zgemma. Then I need to run a new cable from the Saorview aerial too or do I need to run two cables from the aerial so they can record RTE1 and watch TG4?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,326 ✭✭✭CalamariFritti

No just one saorview cable. There is only one connector anyway on the H7s for that 'cos it only has got the one Saorview tuner.

As for recording and watching something else at the same time… Technically with Saorview you dont need two tuners for that, but of course there's more to it and its got to do with the way RTE has the channels organised on Saorview. There is a thread over there on that topic:

Anyone bought the Zgemma H17 yet?

Looks like a decent enough Combo box, newer version of the H7.

Only seeing them on Ali Express or EbayUK so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,326 ✭✭✭CalamariFritti

Just glanced over the specs and not seeing anything thats actually noticeably better than the H7s except its got wifi built in. In fact it doesn't mention HDD support which would make it weaker IMO. Am I missing somehting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,805 ✭✭✭Sir Osis of Liver.

A downgrade so,I'll stick with my trusty H7S.

    What became of the H10?

It looked promising but didn't seem to take off or get released in Europe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,990 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Does your tv have Saorview also as mine does and i split the feed to tv and Zgemma H7S so i can record on box and view on TV and no issues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 775 ✭✭✭Stewball

I'm not sure. I'll have to check when I call round to them during the week.

Hopefully it does, that would be a nice little bonus.

Is there an issue with epg importer? UK epg not loading for me on Vix?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,834 ✭✭✭swoofer

with vix it’s best to use opentv for epg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,326 ✭✭✭CalamariFritti

I'm on openatv but since I ditched crossepg and use epgimporter the box hasnt crashed. Is openepg another one of those?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,834 ✭✭✭swoofer

no it’s only on vix but good. And yes crossepg has gone wonky

Every few months channels move around and things happen like with the U& channels this week. I ran ABM manually and it didn't do whatever it would do to match up the channel in the bouquet with whatever frequency it is now at.

I don't actually use all the bouquets, I only use a single favourites bouquet and put the 30 or so channels I like into there. ABM doesn't seem to help in this case.

Can anyone point to an automated way that will keep up with Astra changes and look at the name of the channels I have fav'd and remap them automatically when they change. The whole rescan and re-add as favs is a bit of a pain. Enigma2, OpenVIX.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,990 ✭✭✭greasepalm

ABM will update all the usual ones but not YOUR favourites that stay untouched when ABM runs.

You might have to delete non working one and move new one in to its place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭cathy427

I read on this thread that the major changes are now done so any changes in the near future should be minimal and probably to the real minority channels.

All the U& channels are just on one single frequency.

I did a manual scan with that frequency.

Then added the channels to the bouquet that I want them in.

They auto slotted in where the old version of channels were on the list.

All done in less than 5 mins.

Came on here as have had similar static images intermittently for the past week. I don't watch much live tv so haven't had a chance to identify a pattern but it seems to be on the BBC not saorview. Was also wondering if an issue with satellite dish but your similar issue is making me question this . Am in Cork city

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,990 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Looking at that link its not a HD channel with poor picture and possibly signal.

I had an issue like that on Rte1 and turned out it was bad cabling that caused it.

Sat cables need to be checked for good clean connections.

Thanks. You mean cabling could be affected anywhere from the satellite coming into the back of the box? Or you mean the connection.could be loose.coming into the back of the box or the connection to the dish/lnb? Was going to get the dish moved to side of house anyway in the coming months so will ask him to check cabling too
