Trump on top for now, Higgins missed a few long ones by miles

Long game going is a definite indication of mental fatigue i'd say, not surprising given higgins had to endure 2 battles to get here. Damage limitation for rest of the session now i think, come back fresh and ready for war again tomorrow.

For a man that’s so ‘bored’ of snooker.. Higgins is playing some stuff.

Least he has a good excuse if he ever plays shíte.. same for Ronnie.. and I love both.

Mentality of some players is embarrassing though.

Ah I think Ronnie's trick is to pretend he does 'not care really' a win is a 'bonus' and 'treat it as a hobby'. Those are the same things he says over and over.
I think it is Steve Peters trick to take the pressure off him.
Because Ronnie knows exactly what records has to beat / has beaten and always wants more.

Higgins on the other hand seemed just mentally deflated after losing two finals in a row. Plus the key from the way he is talking now, is that he does not do his practice at home, but does it elsewhere. Change of environment etc etc. Has returned his focus.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Trump could pull away in this kind of form

It was a really good safety shot that got him that chance there, safety also won him the last frame. Thats the key to his upsurge here for me.

Jayus, Trump is ahead on the safety stats (14th frame)

Only have a passing interest the past 20 years.

Do they have to play to a finish tonight or is the finish tomorrow?.

8 frames tomorrow afternoon and a possible 10 frames in the evening.

They play the first 17 frames today and the remainder tomorrow.

Higgins seems to have lost his touch, particularly on the long shots.

Like when he was 12-7 down to Gilbert, this is a pivotal frame.

Those corner pockets are very generous...

9-5 to Trump. 5 frames in a row for Trump.

9-5. Higgins is in a bit of bother here

Higgins needs at 2 of them, anything less and it'd be hard to see a way back for him.

Dangerous times for higgins, but we've been down this road before! I dont think trump will keep this standard up for the remaining sessions, but if this goes 5-12 i find it hard to see a road back, even if this is arguably the greatest match player in the game we've ever seen. Needs 2 of remaining 3 and it'd still be game on.

These next 3 frames are very important.

Is there a rule against them wearing hats?

I remember Alex Higgins started wearing a purple fedora hat, when entering the arena during the World Championship.

But then took it off when he was playing.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

    Trumps away again

John Higgins is hacking at shots now, Judd can go in for the kill now to set him up for tomorrow.

    Alex loved his fedora!

I've never seen anyone playing in a hat though!

It's weird how Eurosport only have Ronnie commentate on 2 frames, you'd think he would do at least half a session.

Trump just isn't missing, could be done early tomorrow unfortunately.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,108 ✭✭✭Sandor Clegane

Higgins would want to be careful, Judd wont be as forgiving as Gilbert was if he builds a substantial lead, Higgins needs a couple of frames to stay in this I feel.

I think Higgins could be here for the taking tbh.

10-5 now. Higgins really needs at least 1 of these last 2 frames tonight.
