In terms of a screen protector any recommendations?

Is the tempered glass screen protector a bit OTT? Or would the film screen protector be fine to prevent scratches

Bought the below case as a bit of a disaster with phones.:rolleyes::cool:

Dunno if you got the phone yet but there's a transparent case with it.

Someone mentioned these earlier in the thread I think, the fingerprint scanner still works with them apparently: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07NVPPJH5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gLs6CbJEPEK60

Heya yep got the case with the phone but ordered the Spigen case the same time I ordered the phone so will use that case.

I guess its just more about the screen protector to go for.

I've the above screen protector and it does the job. Bit of a magnet for fingerprints, but once it protects the screen I'm happy out. I've the Spigen case too. For a cheaper alternative these cases aren't bad either.. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Gradient-Tempered-Glass-Case-For-Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-7-5-6-Pro-Pocophone-F1-Mi8-Mi/32951798441.html

    €399 on German Amazon - https://www.amazon.de/Xiaomi-Dual-SIM-Android-Smartphone-Piano-black/dp/B008I0YEWE

Very tempted, just not sure how I'm going to get on with MiUi after a few years on more or less stock Android.

Anyone had good experiences with custom ROMs?

if you don't like MIUI, just stick another launcher on, why bother with ROMS?

MIUI changes more than just things related to a launcher.

Exactly, I slap Nova onto every handset straight out of the box. I haven't used MiUi on a daily driver since the Mi3, but I found its aggressive RAM management a pain in the hoop, and the sheer quantity of superfluous bloatware was also irritating.

I have Nova (paid version), Poco Launcher, Microsoft launcher and the stock launcher installed on mine.

    Have used Nova launcher mostly.
Poco is slick. A must try.
Using MS launcher currently. Love the daily wallpapers and sticky notes features.

To be honest I find that launchers are getting more alike over time.
It's just the level of optimisation and some unique options that set them apart.

Massively tempted by this, only thing that's stopping me already having it is I dunno how I'd get on with MIUI, coming from Android One.
Anyone have one able to comment on what the battery is like? My Nokia 7 Plus gives me at least a day and a half of a decent amount of usage, 2 days if a bit lighter.

I prefer MIUI, to the point that I'd genuinely miss it if I didn't have it. Some of the features are just great but saying that I haven't used the newest version of stock android.

I think I'll be getting herself the Mi 9 SE to replace her Huawei phone, so I might have a play around with that and see how it feels to me, that should make my mind up more or less

Maybe have a look at the Asus Zenfone 6? Should be available reasonably soon. Almost stock Android, Snapdragon 855, IPS screen that won't hog power and 5,00mAh battery so it should last 2 days with lighter use. Should be €499 at launch so slightly dearer than the Mi9 but not that much in it.

Mi 9 6/64gb currently on Gearbest for $369.99. Is this the current best deal out there or anyone else aware of better?

    Is that Inc customs?

Seller operates EU warehouses. Querying if same price applies at the moment. If not would just have to take the risk on it being caught for duty/taxes

If someone wasn't in a hurry I'd have a look at the Redmi K20 Pro

Had a look and specs seems largely the same, unless I'm wrong. Bigger battery is nice but the motorised front facing camera would put me off. Would rather put up with the notch rather than a movable camera that is potentially easily breakable
