Only Seward, Armstrong and McGlynn selected for the rescheduled World Half in Poland on 17th Oct. Have others passed on the opportunity due to other commitments? Thought Tobin would be looking to post a time for the half if he's moving up to the marathon.

Tobin is a surprise for me alright, I think one or two others have passed up the opportunity alright but it still seems a little light to me

Scullion nailed it so, pity the weather was trash

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,832 ✭✭✭deisedude

So who are the contenders to represent Ireland in the Olympics in the marathon?

    Men
    Scullion (already qualified?)
    Seaward
    Pollock
    Clohissey
    Armstrong

    Women
    Lizzie Lee
    Aoife Cooke
    Fionnuala McCormack

I'm probably missing some obvious names

Pollock Seaward and Scullion all have the time. Scullion’s time was outside the qualifying period but he did have a top 10 result at Houston to qualify

The men’s race is oversubscribed so we’ll see what happens

Fionnuala McCormack has the time too

Thought the window opened back up on the 1st of Sept?

"Participants at the 2020 London Marathon will be eligible for qualification points that count for the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics."

No one close to the 3 lads right now.

    It opened up alright.

I hear Valencia going ahead for elites, surely a few will chance their arm?

Aoife Cooke going for it seemingly. Coach says aiming for 2.26.

Ya, she was after doing a training camp in Kenya before the lockdown and was scheduled to do one of the Spring marathons. Really hope she gets it, she has put in serious graft

Wonder what time he'll target. Any idea?

I'd be surprised if he didn't go after sub 2:10.

Be a big ask for his first, but Valencia is super fast.

Id be very surprised if he ran it.
In fact id nearly guarantee he won't.
Judging by the previous few months if racing, all of which except the national 10k were focused on shorter distances.

Possibly entered in a pacing capacity?

At the present time, he has no plans on doing Valencia.

World Half streaming on You Tube and BBC Red Button. After London Marathon it's a bit strange looking at them running through the city with random punters dotted about. Women on WR pace through halfway I think. Ann Marie McGlynn 33:29 through 10k, in 27th place. Link to splits here:

1:11:40 for 42nd for McGlynn. PB I think. Great race with a few spills and a great finish. Womens only WR for Jepchirchir 65:16. Top 3 all under previous best.

A great race to watch. Some falls at critical moments.

Smiled each of the 4 times they passed the hoardings emblazoned "Bolix" (local cement company).

Hugh Armstrong PB in 63:37. He went through the 10km mark in 29:47 that would be 1st place in the vast majority of 10km races here

Assuming Aoife Cooke is not running given she has been following a regular training week per her Strava feed...surprised as she appears to be hitting good form.

Yeah, I must have missed when Coach Stazzzzzzzzzzzzza pulled her out of that. Disappointing. I think the training had a few hiccups though; there were weeks with very little quality stuff so she must have had a couple of issues.
