I thought Frawley shored up the full back position somewhat but his stats are largely as a result of continuous deep back field kicking by Connacht when they were trying to close the game out. The vast majority of those meters are just him running 15 meters back towards the oncoming Connacht defence.

Yeah frequently the metres gained by the full back are a bit hard to compare to the other 14. So many "easy" yards gained returning kicks.

Crying about refs has become endemic around Irish rugby. I have been as guilty as anyone in the past but it just has reached pathetic levels now. Often fueled by know - nothing 'journalists'.

    Just rewatching it now.

That clearout penalty on Dave Kearney was absolutely bizarre.

Don’t think the ref is to blame for anything. The only one you could say anything about was the o loughlin one and even that situation is reffed extremely inconsistently.

Thought mick Kearney and Adam Byrne were key for Leinster. Both have been slated a bit in the past too. Never really rated porter as much as others but Jesus he made some impact off the bench. Frawley and Conor o brien are ready for top level rugby I wouldn’t be worried about them playing in the champions cup. Keenan looked out of his depth but still has plenty of time. Thought deegan made of of an impact than Doris tbh.

Extremely disappointed with the result but I think players like thornbury, Boyle, blade, carty, Farrell and leader showed that they’re very decent players and hopefully they can be included in discussions about international squads post World Cup if they continue they’re progression

Journalists do it because they know they will get clicks....The Irish people are slowly getting a reputation of the "rugby whingers"

Check any of the World forums and it is mentioned by all fans....

Only way to stop it is for the fans to stop.....stop discussing ref and stop spending weeks afterwards discussing and complaining about the ref...

On Thursday this week I still seen people posting on facebook forums about the Munster game in Castres....like seriously get over it. The only reason Munster lost was because they bottled it.

I hate the ref blaming culture. I’ve noticed due to success more people who would have been previously die hard soccer fans have been showing up at rugby matches. Blaming the ref is part and parcel with soccer and I think that’s also helping it creep in. Not saying all soccer fans are the problem but I’ve noticed a few loud mouths from Terryland park are showing up at the sports grounds and are always keen to shout abuse at the ref

As a Leinster fan I thought Clancy and Lacy were poor. Was happy to see Connacht fans thought Clancy was poor too. I guess that means he was consistent. As I had to leave at 65 minutes, I felt Connacht were the better team and deserved the win. Will have to watch the last 15 today. Connacht were very Leinsteresque in their performance, ruthless when the opportunities arrived and extremely effective off the ball. Our 10,12,13 axis did not work at all last night in defence or attack. That was the least composed I have seen Ross Byrne in a long time.

Tell you what. Wait until you see him take the conversions. Left touchline, then right touchline, absolutely perfect. Turns out they were crucial too, the three point margin Connacht had in the last play meant they couldn't be too cynical without risking a draw.

Ross Byrne was giving out yards to the back line towards the end of the first half. Very animated, giving them a right bollocking.

What a match though. I thought we were dead and buried by the 55 minute mark. Connacht played some great rugby and we had no answers. Some turnaround. Hugely entertaining game.

I said before the game we'd crush Connacht by at least 15. What I meant was we'd crush Connacht in the last 15 :pac:

Had a look at Conn clan forum and they seem a good bunch, would have reversed the penalty against Bent for offside and pinged the Conn sh.
Same with Shanahan in the Ulster match.

What decisions did he get badly wrong?

The DK pen was incorrect as it was just a good counter ruck.

Not much else stands out from memory

I don't think there were any key moments of Connacht losing the head in the last 10 more like Leinster belief just chipped away Connachts confidence.

Kelleher not finding touch with about 11 minutes left was a key moment. His team needed a break in play.

Can we all just rejoice in the fact that Munster are now the Irish ladyboys and Connacht/Leinster is the real rivalry?

I can't wait for next year. Cian Healy for the winning drop goal.

There were very few penalties in the game overall. He probably let a bit go but that's better than the alternative.

Connacht pulling down the maul a few meters short of the line, in the build up to ROL getting done for upending Blade. Fardy being latched on over the ball for a full 3 seconds before getting knocked over, while the Connacht player didn’t release the ball, the insueing play was a Connacht try, when it should have been a penalty for not releasing. I thought his refereeing of the breakdown overall was a shambles. The fact that Buckley was turning in at every scrum was also going unpunished. Not for one second am I saying he favoured Connacht or influenced their deserved lead. I just think he was poor and as for Lacey he should be nicknamed mr magoo!

All we ask from a ref is to be consistent....

If they are consistently poor then why are we complaining? we got exactly what we expected :P:P:P:P:P

All I was saying if both sides feel hard done by, then he’s doing something right :pac:

I just think he’s a poor referee, but I don’t think it had any real bearing on the game.

The one with Kearney getting tackled without the ball in the lineout, with Lacey looking straight at it with an unimpeded view annoyed me more than anything Clancy did though.

Anyone know of a clip of the Carty try Which can be viewed in slow motion. Seeing loads of tweets now saying he dropped the ball

There is clips on twitter but in real time it's impossible to tell

It looks like his hand loses the ball in mid air and then gathers it again before grounding it. Which is technically a knock on. It was right in front of me in the RDS.

I haven’t seen the clip but afaik it’s not a knock on if the original player regathers the ball before it hits the ground

If he gathers it before it hits the ground it isn't a knock on I think. It has to hit the ground or another player for a knock on.

The next build up thread is going to be filthy.

Connacht fans to get the best of the banter for 80% of the thread, only to blow it at the last.

O'Loughlin had a poor enough game with an inexperienced partner, Dave Kearney was nowhere and our starting front row wouldn't take the skin off a rice pudding.

The likes of Cronin, Deegan and especially the Marvel comic freak of a man who is Porter just changed it up completely, improved the speed and quality of service and the Connacht bench had very little to offer.

I dont know why that useless dirty piece of crep Robertson-McCoy is still on the books in Galway tbh.

I thought Deegan gave a lot and got stuck in more than in past games. Still not at Doris’s level of sheer attrition but putting his hand up to cause headaches for the coaching staff. It’s great to have the level of competition we have in the squad for places as it is visibly causing players to higher their games.

you can vary the speed on youtube clips and when you slow it right down he doesn't drop it. 41.45 on the youtube clock.

it's not a great way to ground the ball it has to be said though

Where's that missed kick by kelleher to touch is it around the 1.24 min mark on the video? If so what was he doing on the other side of the pitch?

If you pause at the right moment you can see exactly when Jared Butler's heart breaks in two.

Don't have a gif, but just played it back in slow motion from a few angles and there's nothing wrong with it. Awesome try.

Looks like Clancy just doesn’t like jackals, 79 mins on the clock in the run up to the last try, Blade gets over the ball, is on his feet and supporting his weight. Clancy eventually tells him to let it go, no idea why.
