    I stand by my valuation :D, a ragged white one with rough recaros, plenty of hidden rust and eleven billion kms is still a €12k car, and that ain't what yours is!

    Same fella sold his EK9 at the same time for... Wait for it... €23,000. Showroom condition, I provided A LOT of brand new genuine parts for him. Not surprisingly, he's replaced them both with an NSX and it saddens me that I'm out of Honda now :(

    The same can probably be said for every pocket of the car world if that happens.
    If we do end up in a recession it will be massively different to 2008 and I hope I will be able to buy some nice cars. :pac:

    The collectable markets of all sorts are going nuts not just in old cars. Crappy interest rates and concerns over normal investment avenues drive this sorta thing. A worldwide recession could drive it further as unlike most recessions this one will likely turn out unequal in who it affects, just the way covid has.

    This isn't a bubble, this is scarcity taking over. This is America having, or soon-having access to these cars. It made no financial sense for them to buy them when they hit rock bottom in 2008 because they couldn't use the majority of anything cool until at least 2015 like an R32 GTR. It makes sense now, as a lot of them are going the way of turbo Porsches of old and our E30s. They might plateau, but they won't come back down again. You cannot buy these cars cheaper anywhere else, and they will not get cheaper to maintain as parts become discontinued.

    The country was full of glanzas,civics,levins,silvias etc but so many of them didn't survive and got broke for parts, there isn't that many out there now. I expect prices to be increasing but they have absolutely sky rocketed recently. If things keep going the way they are then the days of me buying Jap stuff are well gone. If I sold my Glanza I might actually make my money back

    That's about the price of those Twincams. They have a huge following. The Cossie is a very nice car, but I personally never liked the non hatch. Cheapest way to get into a Cossie mind you.

    And people got older and grew up. I hung onto mine entirely by mistake. :) Beemers and the like took over because they were acceptable in suburbia and work for all ages behind the wheel. I suppose certain models of them that are under the radar now will go crazy too down the line.

    A lot of people on this are right in saying that some posters haven't a clue about the jap performance market values.
    Those skyline and supras aren't badly priced in the grand scheme.
    There was an R34 sold for $313,000odd, rare one but they sell for mental money.
    For people my age, younger and older, into jap cars those cars are iconic.
    Auto supras aren't a big job to make manual, swapping in a 2jzgte isn't a massive job either compared to some cars.

    Agreed. 20 years ago I used to do track days at mondello. There was always twin cams on track being absolutely destroyed. Could buy them for buttons back then. They have all seen plenty of action.

    Have you priced a manual box and a 2j recently?
    On top of the price of the car, Labour and the fact its wont be factory?

    Why would you care if its factory?
    When you're not buying a wholly original manual 2jz gte?
    Not that long ago actually, you'd save a bit importing an auto with a separate manual box than a clean unmolested manual in a lot of cases. Low milage 2jz gte with the box were roughly $18-19k, recently if memory serves?

    The 1000bhp supras are far from factory
    Drag cars aren't factory
    There's a metric sh!t ton of non factory cars any of us would happily sit in and have plenty of fun with.

    Missing the point completely. Nobody is disputing they're driven to death but in this case the Cosworth looks like it had an easy life compared to the twin cam.

    Based on what?!
    We know no history of either car.

    Even if the Cossie has "one careful owner with low millage", it could have lived on the limited for 1000km once a year, every year.

    I'm sorry, I may be jaded bit I'm clearly not the only one.
    30 year old cars are 30 year old cars, they're all at risk of being missiles.

    I had a quick look, JDM distro have a 1JZ for 6k, there are two other 2J's for sale in Ireland for under 5k.

    No idea the condition of any of course but not unlike what I expected.
    530d box's fit with an adapter plate, right? You'd pick up a pre 08 whole car for less than the engine.

    If you look at the wider classic market colour changes don't seem to have that big an impact, unless it's a very rare car where the colour and originality is important, or the colour change is trying to make it look like a rarer model. Originality itself is the biggie. Though I suspect that won't be as in play with the 90's JDM stuff, at least at the less rare, cheaper end. Mainly because original cars that haven't been riced and "upgraded" with a football team of previous owners on the logbook are so rare the market and buyers can't afford to be as picky.

    530d boxes are getting thin on the ground due to their use behind 1/2js, particularly in drifting.

    There’s a whole industry in adapting different boxes to fit those engines these days.

    And there’s always been a massive difference in value of the 1 and 2j, even NA 2js are starting to soar in value these days.
