Is there a pattern here? All employed at one stage or other by the .............

In fairness about 98 % of managers are sacked most of the time.

Just been listening to Gavin Cooney on second captains about Robbie Keane's 250k a year contract. That was ridiculous.

I know he shouldn't have to but would hope Robbie would walk from the deal.

It really was an insane deal and I don't think Mick particularly wanted him.

It would be hard for them to maintain a case against Delaney. I presume the payoff was on the basis of it being in full and final settlement, and at that time they had access to all of the information such as details of financial arrangements, emails etc...whether they actually reviewed them or not.

Still say to this day that Robbie was being lined up to become manager after Kenny. Why else would you give him a four year contract.

  • Finished Champagne Football the other night, it really is an amazing read. Highly recommend to anyone with even a passing interest. There is a mad detail on just about every single page.

That would be my thinking as well.
Even the set up with Mick and Kenny was odd.JD was trying to play all sides.

Just got sacked from another one this morning...

Although I agree, the post you quoted was pure nonsense.

Why are you talking about Mick McCarthy in a thread about John Delaney

Apologies. It was really about the FAI (Delaney) handing out 4 year contracts to Robbie Keane. Mick just got in the way.

I reckon they be waiting a while for them.

You cant get blood from a stone and all that.....sure the FAI dont even know how to restart the LOI, let alone to hand out to junior clubs.

It really is a great read. I’m not a big reader of non fiction and flew through this.
I do think you need a passing interest though. I think some reviews said anyone could pick this up but I disagree. I think you would need to know or have some knowledge of a few of the people or the big events covered.

Though dunphy and Robbie Keane are barely mentioned they come out of it looking fairly bad

There is a lot on names in it, and positions....
Its just amazing (or is it??) that there has been no major consequences for the people that helped/facilitated/did nothing while Delaney became a millionaire and spent Clubs money....
And the brazenness of him running a management company in LOndon !!

Most definetly - although it would have been extremely difficult to hide the 70 million hole in the finances at this point.

The presiding judge was sounding quite impatient over ogoing delays at previous hearings. JD could well do himself a favour and at least look to be trying to engage in the process rather than the ongoing subterfuge and misdirection. No evidence of learning from previous mistakes that hiding behind legal processes has a limit of success in the long run.

Im surprised that Covid hasnt been rolled out as a reason to stop the whole damn thing. If it turns out that wrongdoing is evident, his conduct could count against him when it comes to an eventual ruling?

Sure what has he to learn from?

The man has walked away with millions in salary payments over the years, a massive pension, and a massive severence package.
Even a child would learn from all that, that what he did worked for him.
We have very little power when it comes to white collar crime or the investigation of it.
When all of this comes down to it, IF and a very big IF, there are criminal charges filled, we all know what will happen.

You may well be right. I do think that he is pushing it with those that will ultimately be judging his case so a little less of the games would serve him better. Now that he doesnt have that shroud of protection of fear from associates. There may be limits to how his case can be judged in terms of white collar crime but he is still driving that sense of frustration that could garner any attempt to have him answer for his actions.

Lads at the end of the day he is going to claim everything he done was approved by board members. He either had a pre-approved free card to do what he wanted or he had his two mates who signed the rest off. If he drags it out long enough he might get lucky and the two main witnesses who could contradict him may not be with us...if I remember correctly they were 80+. The other board member will limit what they say to ensure they are not infront of the courts.

It's hard to disagree with that summation to be honest.
There might be some taxation areas he could be pulled up on but proving anything else could be difficult.
