I wouldn't feel bad for him, in terms of the fact that he was one JDs closest lieutenants and one of those who agreed to the bonuses for JD that none of the board were aware of. I get he's an old man etc., and should never have been in that position at his age, but he aligned himself to JD and ended up being thrown under the bus by him.

the guy the said the fai has only one bank account

That was Eddie Murray and at the time he was the Honorary Treasurer. The man was 79 and had been around the FAI for donkeys years through a series of mostly unopposed elections.
A friend of Delaney's father he summed up the token yes men Delaney surrounded himself with.

It was this day last year that we found out the full scale of Delaney and the FAI's mismanagement as the media ran the story that the organisation was €55 million in debt.

To be fair, it would have been €60 million if he hadn't wrangled 5 mill for the Henry handball...

I'm not sure it's that big a deal. It's not like it's a story that's gonna be hidden, everyone knows they'll be submitting accounts and they're gonna be reported on.

It may not be a huge deal, but then again if they really wanted a break with the old regime and showing they're clean they'd surely have thought of doing it another day and making a song and dance about it.

It may not be suss...but it seems suss...

They'll never be clean. Disband them please .

release the report while the world cup draw is ongoing \ just finished is typical fai burying it with other news.

The FAI under Delaney never published the accounts before the AGM. They were "revealed" at the AGM, and they received essentially no journalistic scrutiny.

This is 3 weeks before the AGM. Board approved the accounts on Sunday and they were released to the media (via press release) on Monday. Maybe they should have done it an hour earlier or later, but it makes no difference. There's no requirement that they publicly release accounts to the media, but they have done. It was in every newspaper half an hour after they were released, so it's hardly "burying".

    Of course it's burying it.

People are discussing the draw instead.

By your timeline they could've published the accounts Sunday evening for Monday morning's press or first thing Monday morning.

Instead they chose the sleveen option.

5% interest? More expensive ‘loan’ in Europe, Mike Ashley getting more in a year than the whole LOI put together. Over 10 times as much. Problem Child. Delaney should get jail, not a pension.

Mike Ashley knew a soft touch when he seen one.

Such a bizarre commercial deal to agree to.

Ashley: we can claw 100% of the sponsorship money back if we say we’re not happy at the end of the deal but accrue all of the benefits in the interim
Delaney: sound, can you do it in cash?

Just read the book there. Surprised there hasn't been criminal proceedings. Surely the money he gave to his missus at the time, Keegan, amounts to theft?

Im hoping at least, that there is a lot that requires investigating.

It's mind boggling. The most infuriating part is the payoff he got. 90k and 300k+ for his pension. The man has been proven to be absolutely incompetent and he gets rewarded with a payoff that most of us could only dream of.

It absolutely stinks to high heaven - Delaney should be absolutely ashamed of himself but I'm betting he isn't. Shows that in some circumstances you just need a neck like a jockey's bollox rather than talent or work ethic.

    There is
A High Court judge has ruled that the examination by ex-Football Association of Ireland (FAI) chief executive John Delaney of files seized by the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement as part of its criminal investigation into certain matters at the FAI must be completed by mid-January.

The inspection arises out of 280,000 documents, covering a period of 17 years, seized by the ODCE from the FAI’s offices last February as part of its investigation into Irish soccer’s governing body.

The court has been asked by the ODCE, in an application where the FAI is the respondent, to determine if some of those files are covered by legal professional privilege and cannot be used by the corporate watchdog as part of its investigation.

Through his lawyers, Mr Delaney was allowed inspect the files, including thousands of emails, to see which are private to him or are covered by legal professional privilege (LPP), and cannot be used by the ODCE as part of if its investigation.

The matter first came before the courts last February. While a timetable for the completion of the inspection was agreed, lawyers for UK-based Mr Delaney sought extra time to complete the inspection.

It's very difficult to take someone's pension off them in this country .
Hopefully justice is served, plenty more to run in this case.

Bizarre depends on your point of view.

It may look bizarre in the best interests of the association and those who care for it, but it does not look bizarre in the interest of somebody out of their depth trying to "cook the books" and save their skin for another day.

Afair they needed to plug a hole and needed money from somewhere, anywhere, no matter how ridiculous the terms.

Ironic they would seek it from the owner of a club sponsored by Wonga...

Just been listening to Gavin Cooney on second captains about Robbie Keane's 250k a year contract. That was ridiculous.

I know he shouldn't have to but would hope Robbie would walk from the deal.

Yup, that's essentially what I was getting at. It's a no lose for Ashley, and the only casualty are/were the FAI ultimately as Delaney clearly didn't give a toss if he would agree to such a stupid deal.

Mick McCarthy- sacked from every job he had - the cypress one will soon follow no doubt
Robbie Keane - sacked by middlesbrough (and maybe more)
Roy Keane - sacked by numerous clubs

Is there a pattern here? All employed at one stage or other by the .............
