I think MDH played a blinder in frustrating a proper election race, because if it lasted longer I would imagine quite alot more would come into the public eye that would take the sheen off him. Caught telling porkies is not good when there was no need to unless your embrassed about using a Lear jet at the cost of 10k per hour to the taxpayer.

But would you disagree with him? Would you be right to disagree with him?

Yeah but no but yeah but no.

Yeah but no but yeah but no.

I kinda knew where we were going with this. You just proved me right.

You're arguing with someone who feels that it is justifiable during a housing crisis to build stables to accompany free houses ( free to the McCarthy families, courtesy of the taxpayer) instead of homes for homeless families.

So the 'source' says. You and I know Johnny how that attribution 'sources say' is
handy hide behind for media to run stories that have no bearing in fact.
For all we know the 'source' is some disgruntled loyalist ex RUC man with a grudge.

I will let this 'story' develop a wee bit more before I give it the time of day tbh.

      Source is named
Assistant chief constable Alan Todd added: “The PSNI routinely work with visiting heads of state and other key figures visiting Northern Ireland and make full provisions for their safety in line with their requirements.”

and the Sinn Fein candidate has rolled in behind it
Sinn F presidential candidate Liadh Ni Riada said President Higgins’ claim about his transportation had been disputed by the PSNI.

She added: “They reject this security claim [and] say it would be ‘inconceivable’ that the President of Ireland would not have been afforded security if it had been requested.

“It is clear now that Michael D Higgins’ claim has caused considerable anger within the PSNI.

Nice to see Higgins being shown to be no different than any other politician. Happy to cost the taxpayer 10's of thousands to use the Lear jet when a car ride would have sufficed. Champagne socialist if ever there was one.

And wasn't it Casey who broke the story.
Casey having a very good week all round.

Not the same un-named source that said 'it is inconceivable etc etc.' He was the person giving the official line.

It's probably not possible search for a single post from you because you have a gazillion posts on this thread

Yeah he said it on the Virgin one debate, I think Higgins described it first as another fantasy charge then siad it was a security issue but insisted he drove to Derry weeks earlier. Still nothing though on whether there was any turth in Casey's other claim that Higgins once objected to a halting site being built.

Along the lines of 'if the council agreed to build stables they should be built'. How can you justify building stables in the present housing crisis is beyond me .

I know this dude and we may have clashed by times but there is always a cost. Sometimes there is no cost to the end user.

Yes there is. Galway Co Co say they have no records of MDH objecting to an application.

Francie even LnR has come out now and commented on it, if you check this thread my first comment about any of this was the private jet story.

MDH is coming across as a great champagne socialist, he's no different than the rest win his snout in the trough.

Casey played a blinder here. More to come I hope.

If the council agreed to build them stables, I would be asking them same thing.
      If they didn't, no problem.

So what if Ni Riada has come out and commented? It's an election, I wouldn't expect anything less.

There is nothing confirmed here. We do need it clarified though.

      https://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/peter-casey-denies-mixing-up-michael-d-higgins-and-ff-mayor-1.3668462
Mr Casey suggested that Mr Higgins objected to a halting site near his home in 1968. Mr Higgins said that was inaccurate.

Presidential candidate Peter Casey has denied he made a mistake when he accused President Michael D Higgins of having objected to a Traveller halting site in Galway in 1968.

Galway City Council has been unable to shed light on the claim, made during the Virgin Media One presidential debate hosted by Pat Kenny on Wednesday night, despite Mr Casey claiming that the objection was “on the public record”.

However, a former Fianna Fáil mayor with a similar surname, businessman Michéal O hUiginn, has said that he was one of a majority of councillors who objected to plans by Galway’s local authority in 1968 to provide a hardstand in Rahoon, where Traveller families had been camped.

Mr Ó hUiginn noted that Mr Higgins was not on the council at the time, and he has no recollection of him being involved in what transpired at Rahoon. Both men were at university together, and both served terms as mayor of Galway.

Mr Ó hUiginn said the 1968 case was the one and only time he had objected to a halting site, and he had done so as there were concerns about its location next to a cemetery and in what was then a rural area on the outskirts of the city.

Just another one of the many balls up by Casey.

So again if an agreement was made several years ago to build stables you still believe it would be appropriate in the present climate with resources stretched? Btw 900 families seeking housing in Tipp, the families in question turning down houses because they didn't come with 2 stables and half an acre. Indefensible tbh.

There was no truth in it whatsoever. Apparently he may have confused him with a Fianna Fail councillor by the name of Michéal Ó hUiginn.

Are you saying Co Co's should welch on agreements? I think if you extend that across the board you end up with chaos.

The family say the houses are no good to them, and that they are happy to let them go to homeless people.
It's typical Co Co paralysis that they haven't reallocated them.

There is nothing confirmed here. We do need it clarified though.

Francie that looks to me like a pretty official statement from the PSNI,
Assistant chief constable Alan Todd added: “The PSNI routinely work with visiting heads of state and other key figures visiting Northern Ireland and make full provisions for their safety in line with their requirements.”

I thought it hard to believe at first that the President of Ireland wouldn't have had security provided for him while in another part of the island, and now they (PSNI) Seem to want to come out and defend themselves - rightly so if Higgins is spoofing to defend his use of a Lear jet while simultaneously sending his official car on ahead to Belfast to wait for him arriving by air.

Higgins said that he was did so after security advice, the offical security forces deny this.

Not sure if it's an intentional pun, but Higgins purpose in Belfast was quite ironic.
In May, he spoke at Queen’s University Belfast on the 20th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement around the concepts of remembering, forgiving, forgetting, and imagining
      :pac:
