So, this important door is not fit for purpose then ?

A good enough kick or shoulder to the door and it’ll disengage and alarms go off, thats why Airport Police were that quick to respond to it but to answer your question, yeah they’re pretty flimsy, pretty piss poor design, the doors open out towards the stairs when in reality they should open inward toward the gate making it impossible to kick or shoulder it open.

Nice theory, but the reality is that because of things like fire regulations, the doors have to open away from the area that is occupied, (or most heavily occupied) so that in the event of a large number being restained by the doors, they can still be opened/released, if they opened inwards, with a large crowd, that would be impossible, and could lead to fatalities in an emergency situation.

Having said that, the doors are not designed to be capable of stopping every attempt to open them, they are designed to act as a control system to prevent casual access, and that is exactly what they do, and if someone makes a determined attempt to get through them, the relevant people will be alerted by the alarms, and can respond accordingly.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

That incident was a lot worse because the perpetrator stole a vehicle in the city and just drove it through the security fence. It was a miracle nobody was hurt and serious damage wasn't done to aircraft or airport equipment.

I've just removed a number of posts that were potentially actionable, or similar, and inappropriate to this forum. This is NOT After Hours, and there is a legal case pending in relation to the actions of the accused. On that basis, any further comments about the accused that could be deemed actionable, or similar off topic trolling will incur sanctions

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

For those who think "what if this was a terrorist or someone with bad intentions?"; this person already cleared security which means he had a boarding pass for the flight. If he wanted to do anything all he had to do was board with the rest of the passengers and stroll up to the aircraft like thousands others do everyday.
Not wait till the flight is closed and then draw attention to himself and get stopped before he gets to the aircraft.

This was just an eejit being an eejit.

+1 And talk of having armed police to deal with people like this is totally OTT. I don't want to be sitting on a fully-fuelled plane while below me on the apron, armed cops are taking potshots at someone. The most offensive weapon you can take through security is a penknife with a blade no longer than 6 cms, you don't respond to that with live ammunition.
