Do you think travellers are not prone to criminality (statistically)? Have you ever had extended interactions with travellers with whom you do not have a personal relationship? Do you not believe the thousands of stories of crimes committed by travelers when the identification was certain?

Not denying at all that travellers do commit crimes disproportionately. I was just genuinely curious how he knew who it was.

    IT'S A CONSPIRACY!!!!!

There is no established relationship between coke or coke zero and donald trump being president. But between travellers and crime in an area, there certainly is. Between travellers and countryside breaking into a house, probably an even hgher correlation when compared to the rest of the population, Whether or not there are available studies on it, there have been enough reported cases on here to come to that conclusion.

How do you know they were travellers? I'm not saying they werne't, I'm just curious.

Because we pulled up to the house as they were leaving the drive- they said they were "asking directions" and I spotted one of them running through the trees at the bottom of the drive. When we described the car and the people to the guards later he confirmed they were known Travellers in the area.

Traveller women put up with being beaten black and blue, its part of their culture, you wont find them in womens refugees.
They also have a child every year, no point in saying no to drunken unemployed, unemployable husband, he will beat you up and rape you anyway. Its the culture.
This is why travellers education is so poor. If you educate young girls you give them a choice, traveller men dont want to change and they want women they can dominate, eg bash into submission and wear down with childbirth, its the culture, doncha know.

Obviously not, but very few Travellers tend to target the elderly in their own homes.

Either he doesn't know or it's a hunch based on statistical liklieood of travellers to do such things. It doesn't really make a difference to the general theme of outcry against a current injustice that exists in the thread.

I don't want to see them all jailed or hung or anything like that. But let's not deny the truth. It's not acceptance if you have to pretend that they are something they are not in order to accept them. Theirs is a culture with many aspects completely at odds with the standard mores of the irish middle class. Fist fighting, running horses to their death etc. etc.

I don't mind if they want to punch each other, I'm not a fan of the horse killing; but at least my idea of accepting them isn't "oh sher they're just the same as your average middle class irish person". This isn't because you have any great compassion for them, it's because you've never interacted with them. If anything it is more evidence of the sort of bigotry and separation that leads you to only interact with your own kind.

You can only hold people to account for something once it has been established that they are the only and solitary people who do such a thing?

If any other people do such crimes, then discussion of the first-mentioned perpetrators is off limits somehow?

    I don't think so.
Moreover, when a group is granted a special status in a supposed republic, it behoves them to understand that their behaviour as a group will be highlighted on account of that and discussed by society at large.
You can only hold people to account for something once it has been established that they are the only and solitary people who do such a thing?

You seem to be missing the point. If a man rapes a woman it would be wrong to generalise against all men from specific examples, indeed it would be absurd to suggest so. So why generalise against Travellers based on the actions of some travellers. If two settled people carried out a crime against an older person there may be discussion about them but the discussion would focus on the particular perpetrators when it comes to travellers the individual are some what lost sight of and it becomes a free for all of Traveler hatred.
Moreover, when a group is granted a special status in a supposed republic, it behoves them to understand that their behavior as a group will be highlighted on account of that and discussed by society at large.

They were granted a status based on ethnicity why does this mean behaviour should be highlighted more? That's an absurd suggestion. Secondly are you suggesting that threads such as this didn't exist before their alleged 'special status, of course they did so it rather undermines your arguments, doesn't it?

Okay, two minutes to tell us why we should like criminal Travellers who beat women, abuse animals and give their children zero ambition or work ethic.

    Everyone - go.

Of course not, however hard statistics show that the Travelling community has a far higher rate of convictions for crimes than the general population*. That's convictions too. How many crimes go unsolved? If Travellers were removed from the stats, crimes against property, particularly in rural areas would go down appreciably. It is complete denial in the face of reason to suggest otherwise.

*and far higher rates of prison time, unemployment, spousal abuse with it.

Your post reveals quite a lot of ignorance. Many women from varying backgrounds put up with being black and blue to suggest it's the preserve of Travellers is dishonest. If you visit women's refuges you will find Traveller women but never let facts get in the way of your nonsense.
37% of women accessing refuge identified themselves as Travellers,

They don't but you know that.

Margaret Cash screeching down a mike outside Dail Eireann is the face of Irish Travellerism.
The iconic symbol of travellerism was nearby, the occupied double buggy.
She screeched about her entitlement to a home for her “ babbies”, there are seven in total and Ms Cash hasnt explained or been asked why she has seven children while living ntirely on handouts. She hasnt been asked either about future family planning and its quite likely she will have as many children again, she is only twenty seven.

Travellers make up only 0.6% of the population yet they make up 15% of the male prison population and 22% of the female prison population.

That doesn't include convictions that don't result in a prison stay.

Indeed and the stats will also show that there is a higher rate of convictions of people in Dublin 1 than those in Dublin 4 so what's your point?

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but if someone could shed some light. Has anyone noticed that there is a very large community of Itinerants living in a field at Keatings Park in Rathcoole. There are about 30 or 40 caravans hitched, bonfires scattered around the field, vans and old burnt out cars, rubbish scattered around the site. They seem to have arrived only a few weeks ago,for residents living in and around rathcoole and the surrounding areas,be vigilant.

    Anyone else notice this?

They've been there for months and I haven't heard of them causing any issues. What's the point of this thread?

The same point of every thread about Travellers - it allows the brave souls here a chance to air their hatred and bigotry for a few hours.

Excellent news. They should park their caravans in driveways and charge €1,000 to move them.

If it goes much higher they'll need a Colin Kapernick type to take a knee before every fist fight and sulky race to draw attention to it.

    That is an astonishing figure.
Assuming the justice system gives them fair play, it would appear a traveller is 30 times more likely to be a prisoner than a non traveller.
Seems about right when I think about it.
