Funny enough I thought the same thing I think with an Orange warning they should have got rid of the kids it came across as a happy forecast when it's anything but. At the end of the day it's a life threatening storm

ECM 12Z just rolling out . This is a slight upgrade on previous runs I believe. North Clare, Galway, Mayo look like getting a fair smack of the first winds. ( the 151 km/h would be high ground ). 140 km/h gusts over the Aran Islands. 120 to 130 km/h gusts running in Galway bay.

coming from a forestry perspective Darwin war way more destructive that Ophelia, went out to inspect forest after Ophelia expecting to see them on the floor only to be pleasantly surprised

I've to be out, 9am - 1pm, toddler in car for some of that time. Rural roads in Kilkenny. Considering cancelling plans but would need to do so in the next hour or so. Usually I'd be quick to take the safety first route but it's not even orange for the area. Conversation here though makes me think maybe it will be?

If they use that then I am still at a loss as to why Cork and Limerick are at yellow, they both get gusts of about 120km/h for a period. I have a feeling theres more upgrades to come yet. But oof clare galway and mayo are going to get hit! during the school runs too!

The amount of trees allowed to grow on rural roadsides is disgraceful.They are so dangerous during windy/stormy weather,yet the councils will not prosecute landowners or make them cut the trees down.

I can never understand that either, Clare in the orange warning but Limerick remains yellow. The wind isn't going to slow down at Bunratty ffs

Hirlam 12Z Showing widespread mean speeds of 85 km/h on Coast from Kerry to Mayo, and areas of 100Km/h mean especially on the Clare / Galway ( possibly Kerry ) coast early morning and later the NW and N coasts.

I have just walked along the coast West of Spiddal with a handheld anemometer. Peak gusts were only 50 kph. Wind often sounds & feels much faster than it actually is.

Close to a red warning for west coast fringes and orange needs to be extended to Limerick and Cork.

Mean windspeeds of >90km/h coming onshore on HIRLAM
Gusts of over 150km/h still present on ECM
- these are two of MÉ's most trustworthy models

Widespread onshore gusts of >160km/h on the "Britain HD" model on Weather US (is this UKMO?)

Looks like the Swiss HD also shows possible stingjet feature approaching Donegal, cycle from 6am through to 12pm tomorrow here:

Also, Sunday's hurricane -force storm is still there on GFS with the UK getting very serious 150km/h gusts - and the GFS is very conservative. If other models tag along for the ride we're in trouble.

Wexford also might need an Orange Warning, strongest wind may be brief but could gust 110 to 120 km/h late morning over an hour or so.

its just passed here now,that was a crazy half hour,i can see a massive anvil cloud with pink bolts with incredible convective shapes to the cloud in the last glow of light from the west,pass north eastwards

Powerful jet stream steering the storm. Will be interesting watching the satellites tomorrow for the tell tale signs of a sting jet and corresponding ground speeds if it occurs.

Reminds me of something a friend and I were talking about the other day. Obviously islands off the west coast in the atlantic are very exposed and can often get battered. Thanks Sryan. I was only looking at their daily data summaries and the mean 10 minute speeds are only on a graph and I would have preferred the exact number.
