Who did the hurlers play when it was done years ago? I can't remember.

kilkenny in nowlan park, was at it but can't even remember who won it

It would be hard to build up a finale against say Longford, the show is looking to get media attention and playing a smaller county won’t help that (Longford would still beat them well). I think they need to rethink the format somehow.

hopefully everyone taking part doesn't have some sob story behind them, no need for it

Turning into Operation Transformation with the sob stories.

Goes with all that sort of TV although in fairness TG4 have not dumbed down too much.

Best one was the celebrity Banisteoir. I was at the Ballymun/Desmonds final in 2010 and it was great night in Parnell.

That was a really good idea and didn't cut across the normal club season. Thought it caught imagination really well and some very good managers, even people I would cross the road if I saw coming against me :)

Haven't seen it tonight. I trust it reflected the "diversity" of modern Ireland.

Poor enough first episode and the football bits shown didnt show much at all. Hope we get to see more playing time. I dont really give a sh!t about their personal lives tbh, just want to see lads playing ball

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,665 ✭✭✭Bonniedog

    Caught the end of it.

This narcissism seems to infect everything now.

Who wants to know if somebody playing ball couldn't decide when not to have another bet or a drink or who they sleep with? Who gives a fk. If I wanted to hear whinging I'd hang out more with the in laws.

Of couse they did! You'd wonder if some of them are just for show

Not a big fan of same.

Seems to becoming a more integral part of the series year on year.

In reality given a pool of 50 plus players going for the trials there's bound to be some everyday trials and tribulations.TG4 aren't going to park those at the door given the sacrifices involved in participating in the process.

Felt sorry for the Kerry man sent home. You can't build a team if some fellas are getting selected but not showing up, when others are giving it their all, just breeds contempt. Kerry man was rightly peeved, the guy from Westmeath should have got gone.

Very sympathetic backstory to Brendan O Sullivan's failed drug test.

I think I've mangled my english.:)

Merely meant to say there was a sympathetic angle put on the fallout.

He was a newbie on the panel (not wanting to rock the boat) and in his naivety failed to consult a dietitian/nutritionist re the make up of a caffeine tablet which was found later to be contaminated.

Same was taken off the market subsequently.

The fallout was very tough for the lad as an amateur sportsperson and his loved ones.

Pretty unfair on the other panel members that he walked onto the team after entering same so late.

    Right.

I don't think anyone implied that O'Sullivan was taking stuff with knowledge of anyone or that he was a particularly cunning cheat. Same goes for the Monaghan lad.

Heavy price to pay but they need to be pretty black and white over such things.

I remember Gavin actually kicking up over the tests that day because the testers demanded to see the Kerry and Dublin players straight away rather than staying with them until the 1916 commemoration was over.

Got taking to them tonight, they are very confident of putting in a performance tomorrow night. And with the team Mayo have named, I think they are going to do a lot better than last year's group

Not sure they went bad against ul unless it was for tv

Have'nt heard our team named as yet but with amount of experimentation speculated upon I could see an upset tomorrow night.

No harm to the underdogs but I cant see them troubling any even third string top county side.

    Spread is -7

It is gas to recall that when Dublin played the first version, how ever many years ago there was real fear among Dubs supporters that Dublin would lose. Such was the fragile state of mind! Fielded strong too.

Can anyone who has been watching enlighten me to how Brendan O'Sullivan is on the team.

I didn't see him in some of the earlier episodes and haven't really kept track of it since

Was he parachuted in for the game?

Also he's got a County Semi Final on Sunday so it seems unlikely that he will play much of the game if any at all. Seems poorly thought out.

You answered your own question my friend.:)

Pretty unfair on the other panel members.

He met Mickey Ned O'Sullivan in a hotel in Kerry at a course, and he was asked if would join. Mickey Ned asked the players if they were okay with it and they said yes so he was allowed join

I had the privilege of interviewing Mickey Ned O'Sullivan and some of this years Underdogs panel before the big game tonight in McHale Park. If ye would like to hear it it's here. It's not great by any means but it's an insight into how they're feeling anyway. The Irish cuts out after about a minute and a half or so, don't worry about having to translate the whole half hour haha
