Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wife shopped in Sligo Tesco today - they have ripped out the (normally smelly/filthy) 1men / 1 women/ no disabled toilet and made it into a nice new shiny 1 large toilet with a disabled bowl and disabled equipment in there and a baby changing table . - there was a queue there though queuing up to use it - well its not rocket science if there is only 1 toilet where there used to be 2 seperate mens and ladies and someone is in there doing a big dump / or changing a baby then no-one else can use the bogs!
also to note there is a Café in the same arcade as the tesco store which dont have toilet facilities for customers (how do they get away with trading like that, having a eat in cafe with no customer toilets) so that when someone goes up to the till to ask where the toilets are the staff say "we have no public toilet sorry, you can use the Tesco one across the way there" - number 1 its tesco's toilet, number 2 now its only gone down to 1 toilet and there are now queues because so many people need to use it - number 3 its not a dedicated cafe's toilet .. as I say i dont know how they get away with operating like that.

here's the Sligo Tesco toilet now anyway - nice and clean and shiny (for the present) and a lot nicer than the previous toilets in there:

Was there any other kids in the car?

Nope, the wife was at the other side of the jeep and that was it.

I should be working, and instead I’m looking at the Tesco toilets in Sligo.

thats always been a bugbear of mine. In this day and age as well. - if I knew I had to go on a bus journey without a toilet on it even the thought of it would make me anxious and want to use the toilet - I know they would have breaks and 'toilet stops' but with some people (medical problems/old/whatever) simply cannot be told or have the willpower to wait for ages to go to the toilet. With some , when you need to go you need top go.

Long story but I was sent by my GP once to a CBT specialist because of my waterworks. and she went through the ol' "when your asleep you dont need to use the toilet so why do you need to use it a lot when your awake?" - and "sometimes thought of going to a place or a town with no toilet prompts a lot of people to worry about going to the toilet should they need to and if there is not toilet your brain sends signal to your bladder and makes you want to go more"
well apart from all that , it turned out in the end that it was my Blood Pressure tablets were causing me to go more than I need to -

but yeah going through that I really now sympathise if someone goes out of their home who is on medication like that or water tablets and go to a toilet when out and have to queue for the toilet or there is no toilet at all , or if they ask in a shop and the shop owner wont let them use their staff toilet. - with some I have heard of it making people stay at home and not want to go out (and that causes other problems in itself) rather stay at home because at least they will be near a toilet rather than thinking they could go out somewhere and get caught short!

I always know where all the toilets are when I am out and also cut down on liquids that morning; old age and urgency. I would not let this stop my rare outings. Rather wear a nappy than that!

LIDL always let me use their staff toilet if I ask. As do other shops.

depends who you get/what their mood is like/do they follow the rule book/what kind of day they are having.

Still needs to be more public toilets that there is in areas so you dont even have to risk asking to use staff toilets and getting a "NO" as an answer

to be honest if I worked in a place that have staff toilet's would I like Joe public coming in and using it even as a one off emergency? - no, I don't think so to be honest

Well, I am old and visibly disabled and greatly value the kindness shown. I rely on it as little as possible by mapping out where I am going etc .

I've worked in Penneys and they really don't allow customers to use the staff toilets. And we had no customer toilets.

council's and the like are not going to be pressurised into going back supplying public toilets for visitors to towns if establishments make available their toilets to all and sundry - and i think thats where the problem lies.

I would say ideally - councils supply a toilet block in car parks in the town or in a central location to the shops - men's with urinals and 2 bowls, ladies with 2 or 3 bowls, and a disabled toilet (or 2) in the block (with baby changing table/facilities) paid for by rates they are robbing taking of businesses in the town - manned(woman'ed) for the full time by cleaner paid by the council (or 3rd party cleaning company, paid for by the council.

then if people want to go into cafe/restaurant/pub etc not as a customer but just use their toilets as a public toilet the establishment can point people to the public toilets and then keep their toilets just for customers.

A better option might be for the Council to pay one or two retailers to make their loos available to the public. Some of the UK councils already do this. The toilet is already there, and has to be maintained anyway, so it's not going to be a huge amount of extra work. It might even bring in some extra customers.

Little point in building public toilets, with all the maintenance and security issues that go with that.

Nice and shiny indeed, I just hate to see the sanitary bin, or anything else blocking the space where the wheelchair user needs to reverse in to transfer over onto the pan.

I have some similar issues, and have had a few close calls rushing home, or rushing to the nearest pub or shop. Coach travel is a big worry, though some of them do have the on-board loo now.

ive seen one of those bladder bag things you can strap to your thigh, un-noticeable when wearing trousers or a dress and just pee in that whenever and then just empty it out when your next in a toilet :)

this is a lovely conversation isnt it :)

I dunno - I do like the idea of a toilet block being in a centralised location at the end of the day such as a busy car park - not yards away up in a shop or cafe somewhere. - properly signposted "Public Toilets" and highly recognisable , not hidden away anywhere and signposted from a main shopping street.

Then it does mean if people have parked their car their before they leave the parents can say to their kids "do you need to use the toilet just before we leave?" - and if there is a coach park in the car park as well people can use it just before they get on their coach - its just more convenient (public convenience) rather than say if some shop or cafe or hotel (that could be a fair walk away) loaned their toilets to the council like you say.

could have both? I have had to ask in shops when the public toilets were too far away for me to walk to.

the real art is knowing where existing facilities are where you shop/need them. Most petrol stations, for example, and you ask for the key.
