How are we all feeling about stage 2.?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,120 ✭✭✭justshane

I think if we did well on stage one we should be confident we can do well on stage two, as it's very similar. Obviously it doesn't always work like that.

Guys, you know in the email we received with our stage one results, at the end of the email it was saying that they will be in contact with regards to the time slots for stage two. Does that mean we will get to like pick our stage 2 time or does anybody have any idea?

Hi, you will get a message in your public jobs message board with the number you contact to book your assessment. And you will have to do it within a few days. When you ring I think you do get an option of a time, morning or afternoon sort of thing. But it's good to book it quick if you are after a certain time slot incase it gets booked up. Hope this helps.

Vardy98, do they pick a day for us based on our OOM, or is there some flexibility? Getting anxious about dates because I'm due to go abroad for a wedding in August.

I think you have a choice but I'm not 100% sure, I no you have a choice in the times, but maybe its different now. Sorry can't be of much help.

It is now open for booking. Dates between the 7th and 17th of August.you can pick which ever one as long as there is space so get booking what you’d prefer. There are 3 time slots to choose from.

Just made my booking there for the 7th at 11:30. Hopefully stage 2 goes well and stage 1 wasn't a fluke.

Stage 1 results has me excited but also nervous lol. I think stage 2 will be fine, it’s stage 3 I’d be worried about as I hate interviews!

not a fan of interviews myself, is it more of a formality to see you are a decent person or do many people fail the interview?

I'm trying to book the stage 2 but can't see the my bookings link in the menu. Any ideas where to find it?

Think I read in a previous thread that the failure rate is 1 in 3.
I think it's probably a lot of things. See how you present yourself, how you deal with a tough question, how well you prepared.
I'm mostly worried about the interview, but only because I tend to babble when I'm nervous!

The interviews definitely aren't just a formality. There will be a psychologist in the room observing your answers and body language, how you hold yourself under difficult questions. It's a compancey based interview that will look at your life experiences.
The results are important but not the golden ticket into Templemore.

It’s competency based. So before the interview we will get some info so we can prepare. We have to show instances then of where we prove to be resilient or a leader (depending on what they give us, it’s the same for everyone) etc from our hobbies, volunteer experience work or whatever.

Yes I passed all of them, just unsure if I should do a prep course for stage 2 since I wasn't in the 900s

From my limited knowledge of the process, anyone who passed will get to do stage 2 eventually. Although it's prob unlikely if they've a very high OOM that enough people will drop off before them, if I got up to 1500 I'd be quietly confident.

Is there really need to book a preparation course/online material for stage 2. If the tests etc. are going to be the same as stage 1? Couldn't you just use the same material that you used for stage 1?

I would recommend you do a prep course, yes the aptitude tests are the same format as stage 1, but their is also a report writting exercise and job simulation exercises. So it would be good to do a course to prepare for the report writing and the job simulation exercises.

    Thanks. :)

Just seen on the career services page:
Garda Stage 2 - Online Resource
Access to online practice tests for Verbal and Inductive/Discovering Rules and Report Writing Exercises. Please note that there may be some repetition in the online material to the previous stage 1 online material

    :pac:

Seriously though, After looking at both there, I am influenced in the online study material option. I think that I'll take it one stage at a time and get through stage two and worry about the interview, if that was to happen.

Random question but Anyone here apply for the most recent psni campaign out of interest? Not looking to start a new thread just looking to see as I'm currently in both campaigns at the moment.

I'd imagine less people apply for PSNI jobs? Anyway best of luck with your application.

That's not the case at all. The panel is made up of 3 people. The head of PAS, a member of the board and usually an Inspector/Superintendent. Though usually an Inspector but I had a Supt the last time I went for interview.

Hi lads, So I came in the mid 2000s for stage 1.Not Great. But I qualified. Giving the opportunity I think I could do a lot better next time round. So Im hoping anyone who passed will be asked to take part in stage 2. Why I think it is possible anyone who qualified could be asked to stage 2 is from things Iv heard, but also the the fact that wouldn't the incentive to to cheat in stage 1 be huge if this wasn't the case. You'd be in a better position to get an opportunity that people who just passed wouldn't get. Not that I believe anyone has cheated I'm not saying that at all just saying if they wanted to make sure that didn't happen people should get the chance to reseat and do better. Can people see my thought process here? All the best to everyone who is taking part in stage 2.

Don't know if I'm following 100%, but that is the point of stage 2, to confirm the stage 1 aptitude test results. So yes, you could cheat but it will be fairly obvious when you sit stage 2.
As far as I know, everyone who met the criteria will go to stage 2, they just do it in batches. To put it in perspective, each batch in stage 2 is approx 50 people or so. You'll get there, just a wee bit slower than the people who are in the first 900 called.

Hi guys, just wondering if anybody recieved the letter on public jobs inviting you to stage 2 yet? I'm booked in for the 10th of August and haven't recieved it so far. According to the familiarisation material you need a print out or copy of your booking confirmation which will issue to your public jobs message board after the booking window has closed.

Did the career preparation course and I have to say I didn't find it half as good as the first one. That being said it was definitely beneficial, the report writing is something that a lot of people could fall down on. It'd be worth practicing some form of note-taking before you do stage 2.
