Leaks and theft aren't the same thing.

A leak is when something is revealed by someone who was legally in possession of it.

One can argue that the difference is academic, but it's clear what the difference is and as such why Twitter would treat them differently.

They seem okay with illegal leaks of the president’s tax returns though. Funny that.

Who says the release by the NYT was illegal? Surely Trump's lapdog AG will issue subpoenas without delay.

Would it not be better to lower ourselves to for a few weeks and just shout "FAKE NEWS" at these Trumpeteers?

It's clear reality and facts won't work. I mean, look at the last couple of pages of Pete and Stef's bullplop.

It's just clogging up the thread really.

I did not say the NYT did anything illegal.

I merely pointed out that Twitter were okay with news articles being shared which were based on illegal leaks when it suited them.

You can still hate Trump and think what Twitter did here was wrong you know.

How many multi millionaires do you know of that only have one home?

how many multi millionaires do you know that drop laptops off to be repaired pointlessly and forget about them, and not I dont know, just buy a new one?

Actually let me rephrase that who drops a laptop off to be repaired at a shop at all regardless of wealth IF IT IS NOT A PRIORITY.

If a laptop broke and it's not needed for anything or the data is backed up on the cloud and you have another means to access it, then that laptop is very likely to sit collecting dust until that friend who is good with computers is free to take a look or you are bored enough to google possible fixes.

When do you send a laptop in to be repaired?

When it has data you need

Or is needed crucially for work.

You know stuff where it's a crisis and you tend not to forget that it's there because you need it back as soon as possible to get that data or finish that work.

Thats honestly the most unbelievable part of the story. It's the part that feels very clearly written by someone who was 50 in the 90's when that was much more common. It's not something done today.

Ask yourself when was the last time you just casually dropped a laptop or pc in to be repaired and took a laxed I'll pick it up when I can attitude towards it.

And seeing as the NYT pointed out early and often as they say that the sources for the returns had a legal right to have them.

A legal right to "have them" does not equal a legal right to leak them.

As far as I know the difference is that the NYT didn't post images of the documents, whereas the NY Post put the alleged emails in the image of the story.

The Twitter rules allow the former and not the latter

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,023 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

Maybe how the information came to light is questionable but the no one is disputing the content.

Everyone is disputing the content aside from Giuliani, who is now changing his story again. Even Fox News is covering themselves by putting question marks in the headlines "New Hunter Emails?" or calling them to be "alleged emails".

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,023 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

A legal right to "have them" does not equal a legal right to leak them.

It isn't against any rules to discuss leaked information so I'm not sure what you're moaning about.

Where did I "moan" about the discussion of leaked material? I think you need to reread my post:
A legal right to "have them" does not equal a legal right to leak them.

Just because people have a legal right to access something does not mean they have a legal right to leak it. Whoever did, broke the law.

The point is that if Twitter had an issue with the NY Post story they should also have had with the NY Times one.

What do you think about a candidate for President inciting others to break the law?

Mod: No insults please. Posts deleted.

We sat again for an hour and a half discussing maps and figures and always getting back to that most damnable creation of the perverted ingenuity of man - the County of Tyrone.

Today's twitterfest on Trumps page is, well, disgusting. I know he has posted some outrageous stuff, but at the moment it is just appalling to thinks that anyone with his authority can be so irresponsible all the way up to criminal.

It was a little foolish I guess but hardly comparable.

Not just Twitter that have censored the NY Post's article either as Facebook also did similar:

    Exactly.

Facebook who have previously said that they would not impinge on an individual candidates right to lie on their platform suggesting that people have the right to see what their politicians are capable of (a bizarre defence for such a position but nonetheless).

The fact that they are preventing spread of this shows just how unbelievable and likely illegal it is.

Wow. There's TOO much to unpack there. I think I'll just throw it away.

The fact that everyone shrugs their shoulders at this point says how far things have fallen.

Imagine Biden posted a handful of that. The media would say he has lost his mind and needed to be replaced.

I'm still aghast at just how easy Trump was allowed get away with chickening out on the debate.

That NBC are broadcasting his "Town Hall" is a disgrace. President or not.

Biden should have empty chaired him.

Its the Hunter Biden stuff, which seems to be patently nonsense, but even if it is not, it is not Hunter who is standing for President. He is also spewing endless lies that are beyond ridiculous, all stuff he has said before but totally ignores any response Biden might have made about any of it
Joe Biden and the Democrat Socialists will kill your jobs, dismantle your police departments, dissolve your borders, release criminal aliens, raise your taxes, confiscate your guns, end fracking, destroy your suburbs, and drive God from the public square.

I have an idea some stuff may have disappeared, which might be related to the closing of the team trump twitter account, but I am not sure about that.

He is asking people to 'Volunteer to be a Trump Election Poll Watcher' with the slogan 'Fight for President Trump' with a link 'armyfortrump' -more dog-whistles.

Its a very sad reflection on the people who support him that they accept the kind of pathetic, lying, immature and definitely unpresidential garbage he posts.

You can tell how much of a nothingburger it is by the fact there are zero posters here proclaiming that this will sink Biden's chances.

It's almost like they have been promised something from Barr which never came and they can't even work up enough enthusiasm to try champion this nonsense

As my Da used to say in a Saturday night: "Ya Wha' Gay??"

How is a documentary film that lays out chapter and verse how Trump and his Grifters totally ****ed up the Covid response, and their subsequent appalling mis- management a 'nothingburger'?

    What am I missing here?

Let me make one thing perfectly clear to Trump fans - you may greatly enjoy how much Trump winds up the libs. OK, that viral clip of the woman falling to her knees and screaming 'nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!' as Trump is elected is an hilarious clip, but winding up liberals isn't really worth having a president who is wilfully divisive and intent on sowing hatred and misinformation among the population. If the POTUS cannot at least try to be a conciliatory figure for the different groups of people in the United States then the country is in danger, and if he's actively stoking those divisions, then the country is in more danger still, and if that carries on, the fight is less on Twitter and other social media, and it's increasingly in the streets and then one day it's at your very door.

And it's not even just a concern for those who live in the United States. Because the country gains much attention around the world, especially the English-speaking world, whatever goes in America can be exported, and we're seeing that already.

There's always going to be room for Conservative politics, but there's no room for screaming hysteria with no nuance, as that will rend a society apart, and that's what Trump represents at this point and that is why he must go.

I don't know how Trump gets away with his outlandish claims. His assertion that Biden will quadruple people's taxes is patently nonsense. Does even one person other than Trump believe that this is possible? Even one person?

NBC proving how utterly useless they are again with the decision to allow the Dodger the air time and at the same time slot just compound's it. At least stick him on MSNBC and have him go up with Maddow or o Donnell or something. A joke of a decision.

Obviously all of what you said is nonsensical but just on the emboldened, are people still trying to suggest there was truth to that nonsense lie that Trump called WWII dead "losers" ? Do you really believe he did that and if so, why?

Not that I'm suggesting you're alone in thinking that, as sadly, you're not - which was of course the objective of those who started that lie, to convince people Trump had said it so it would inform how they then voted.

Phew! JUST AS WELL I SAW THIS! I was just about to take the big green pill the wife has been saving since 2016!!

Yeah, the Rudy Rant is absolute Rubbish! Who cares about Hunter at this stage? He's neither running nor featuring in Biden's Administration!!

HOWEVER, JarVanka, Junior and Eric?? Up to their proverbials and grifting at every step! Funny how they're not being outed for years of Pay to Play!

Sometimes when they go Low, this "We Go High" strategy Is just Bull****!

Aside from many, many other outrageous conflicts and other horrible things, the simple fact that Trump's kids were caught stealing money from a cancer charity and are never again allowed to run a charity should shut down any comment on the family of others.
