Amazing little coverage about this in the western media. Compare with Syria.

8 million people on the brink of starvation. No amount of aid could solve that problem for long :(

Some of their near neighbors are oil rich states, "playgrounds for the rich and famous". So it's only a mater of time before they step in and help out.
We all saw how those same rich neighbors took in all those Syrian refugees rather than have in rubber boats on the high seas.

All sarcasm aside.. Yes it is a shame and western media could/should do more.

So if no arms were sold tot the Saudis' from either the UK or US, you'd have peace and tranquillity in Yemen?

As usual everything bad in the world is all because of the West.

As usual we get no mention of Iran , russian and north Korean involvement ,

If only the US and the UK didn't sell arm's globally ,but wait tens of countries sell hundreds of billions of dollars worth of weapons every year.

A country that has continued to get bombed the f*** out of by drones which have shot up since the start of last year, which absolutely cannot help. What ever happened to all those posters and threads telling us how evil and terrible drones are that were all over boards in and around 2014-16?

You'd be hearing a lot about this if it was Russia behind it.

But it's the US/Saudi axis of evil, so as usual the western media looks the other way.

Historically there has been conflicts going on in Yemen since the late 40's early 50's and every time one group is finished off outside support arms and backs another group to start a fresh conflict ,
Unfortunately we only see people caring when they want to bash the west ,

Can't be the headhunter Saudi regimes fault, sure our own news agencies told us they letting women drive cars now. Probably have them driving more tanks over there to blow up starving people. Vile fascist f**king kip. Day of reckoning coming real soon

Well given that that the White House now takes their orders from Moscow I guess it makes sense the same crowd so active on the matter in 2014-16 suddenly decided to shut their collective mouths about it once and for as of January 21st, 2017. :p

Didnt they have a very bad civil war in the 90’s?

"Bash the west". Ah yes, the west is the victim as the west arms the head chopping Islamic extremists of Saudi Arabia as they bomb and starve millions of civilians.

Thoughts and prayers with the west.

    It's not hidden
    https://www.rte.ie/search/query/yemen/

I'd imagine it's not easy reporting there. The Saudai's are heavily involved and it's not like you can wander around with a video camera in Saudai either.

The BBC's international correspondent Orla Guerin , and I stopped there.

BTW there's more people living in Yemen than Australia.

Not just a civil war, it use to be two countries that had a war or two before reunification.

Why are the Saudis involved? Are they again the Shias or is it Sunni against Sunni.

    Flexing muscles.

    Domino theory.

    "cold war" with Iran

The Royal family aren't loved by all, and sending a message to anyone who wants to try this at home.

    Oil.
They want to run a pipeline from Saudi through Yemen to bypass Straits of Hormuz controlled by Iran. Yemen said no.

US backed Saudi coalition have bombed so indiscriminately and made so many 'mistakes' Obama at one point cut type of bombs sold to them. Trump reversed that. UK are selling arms to Saudi also knowing that they are for Yemen.

Its incredible that there is hardly any coverage of this. Yemen is the poorest country though I think gold has been found recently. People starving to death ffs.
It's US, UK again backed saudi and gulf coalition vs Iran.

Saudi Arabia is directly responsible for this. US is indirectly responsible.

The west is also responsible the the Syrian War dragging on for so many years. It's not possible to dodge these facts.

Saying 'stop' would not be enough, as the US would also need to stop actually bombing Yemen themselves. Instead, they have increased their own bombings of Yemen sixfold in the last 18 months.

They increased by a whole 21 strikes ,

Almost shocking when you say sixfold and see it's actually only around 130 strikes against ALQ targets and other foreign groups

Iran is hardly innocent. Saudi Arabia and Iran are as bad as each other.

The thing is though, that left to its own devices the Houthis would have won in Yemen. Instead Saudi Arabia has been propping up the government that lost most of its territory, and is dropping bombs on Houthi territory and starving the population there.

Sure Iran is giving aid to the Houthis. Are they doing it to try and reduce Saudi Arabia's local power? You betcha. Does that make this action inherently wrong in this particular instance? No.

If a terrorist group detonated "only 130 strikes" in Europe, there would be a global outcry.

War is war, and it is nearly always wrong.

Jesus Christ. The reporter on Channel 4 News tonight in his report on today's massacre of 43 people (and rising) in a market, including 29 children bombed in their bus:
".... The Western-backed Saudi-led coalition responsible offering no apology. This was a legitimate military operation, they say, in accordance with international humanitarian law."

    He finished his report thus:

"... the absence of any moral culpability over a war in the Arab world's poorest nation where last year an average of 130 children died every day".
    .

An average of 130 children per day dying? It's quite nauseating how this conflict is sidelined because the US and Britain are arming and defending the mass murderers in that aberration of humanity that is the state of Saudi Arabia. How anybody in the west can justify supporting these people defies belief. No wonder so much of humanity recoils when these same Western leaders lecture others on immorality only when their opponents are engaged in it.

Well seeing that Syria conflict was never about democracy you can see now in Yemen killing children is fine as long they are your allies.

Where Nikki Haley at the UN? She quick to call meetings at the UN when she thinks Assad carried out an atrocity.

The Saudi's have actually said this was a legitimate military target. Heather Nauert has waffled over this attack but still said they support their allies in the region. This isn't even the first massacre, they have bombed weddings, funerals, markets. There's cholera outbreaks as well as starvation. The UK, US and Canada are supplying billions of dollars of weapons to Saudi, plus tactical support. The media are reporting the minimum because West is complicit.
If this had happened in Syria, it would be headline news for days. The Saudi's are spending billions on this farce, and getting nowhere and none of it is for love of the Yemeni people.

The Saudi are scum, and all those who support them. They see children as cannon fodder.

UN calling for an inquiry: https://edition.cnn.com/2018/08/10/middleeast/yemen-children-attack-bus-intl/index.html Guess who will block it? What does our Minister of Foreign Affairs have to say on this ****show?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,761 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

It is a large stain on humanity what the Saudi's backed by the west are doing to the people of Yemen.

Absolute disgrace, no country can claim to be a moral authority and pretend to be the good guys when they support these horrific crimes.
