    There hasn’t been a bearded winner since 1882, when Bob Ferguson took the title at St Andrews sporting an extremely wide goatee. No sides or moustache though, and a lack of hair on the upper lip might irk some purists. So with Willie Park Sr. (1875, Prestwick) similarly disqualified for lack of tache, despite having a dead sheep glued to his chin, we have to go right back to 1867, when Old Tom Morris triumphed at Prestwick with the full Santa arrangement.

    Just leaving the course after 9 hours of walking around. Radio 5 Live will get me through the rest of play today.

    What a stunning golf course this is. Everything about it was very impressive, best golfing event I’ve attended by far. Makes a huge difference when you see that level of professionalism at the very biggest stage.

    Justin Rose making the most of moving day, he’s well placed I think, but Lowry is playing with no fear and getting rewarded. Gonna be some final day the way the leaderboard looks
