Planning on getting this tonight, the hype on reddit is crazy

Its worth the hype, the graphics alone are unreal

Have to pick that up later this week so. Got to the fourth sequence in Humanity. Its grand. Its a puzzle game. Gonna finish it to see what the whole story is about, but don't think I'd be interested in the user generated stuff. And I'm not ashamed to say I googled a couple of them, and if I hadn't I'd still be on them!

Watchdogs Legion, never liked the look or idea of it, but having played a few hours now, I can confidently say its terrible. Animations are junky and not timed right. Driving is floaty and just poor in general. Not having a main character is not working, I can't care about any of them. While the pitch lowered Dub lad has some good lines, especially when playing keepy uppy, but it sounds wrong. Seems they pitch change the same voices to pretend to be different ones. About as bad as I expected tbh.

Rift Apart is just as good as I remember, and looks glorious on the C2. As does GT7. Still also hacking away at Ghostwire, pretty good so far.

Playing Ys IX : Monstrum Nox and am absolutely in love with it. Part JRPG, part button basher. Combat is good and straightforward, boss fights are fun and general progression is nicely paced. The best part is that the collectible elements of the game are rewarded with actual items rather than just being tick box exercises. I can see myself spending alot of time on this. Its on + and is not something Id have ever bought but am delighted I tried it.

Mafia: The Definitive Edition. Cleared it when it was first out but gone back to it to clear Classic mode and possibly the platinum trophy. Loving it all over again.

Swapping between Yakuza 0 and Deathloop at the moment. Yakuza is good, but a little slow. Deathloop is fun and I like the humour to it. Thought I might get a bit annoyed with the premise, but so far im enjoying revisiting the different areas at different times.

Turned on the ps for the first time in about 6 months and downloaded Open Country. Looks like just the sort of relaxed open game I'm looking for.

Also have a backlog of playstation plus games to check out.

Started Sackboy A Big Adventure last night. Good game. Reminds me of Mario 3D World which isn't a bad thing. A couple things that annoy me like the punch attack. Maybe it's my fault but there have been a number of times I missed a punch resulting in losing health or a life because of how he moves forward when punching.

The soundtrack of it is just sublime, 'one track mind' and Toxic is legendary

Playing Kena: Bridge of Spirits and really liking it. Few difficulty spikes here and there but for the most part it’s a great game to just pick up and spend an hour playing.

Couldn't get into it. Just felt too... kidsy? I dunno, just didn't gel with me at all. Tried it a couple of times too.

"Finished" Rogue Legacy 2. I'm still at it, but I'd imagine like most *vania type games I'll get sick of the repetition soon enough. Harder doesn't make it different enough for me to keep going, but I'll stick with it for another while.

Also tried out Cold War. Said I'd give the campaign a go. ~200gb later, I have to decide if I want to download better visuals. Nah, drive on. Then it wouldn't let me use 120hz, saying my tv/PS5 was preventing it, but it works with every other game. Feck it, drive on, didn't need them for the campaign anyway. The vocal mixing threw me right off. Doesn't help the main character sounds like he's reading his lines from a bathtub while sipping brandy no matter the situation. Rest of the audio was grand, but the vocals were terrible.

Then decided to give multiplayer a go. Ads, ads, ads, intro, ads, free bundle, xp tokens, operators.... finally I get to pick a game from a huge diluted list of modes. Decide to go with 12v12 moshpit as I like objective modes. SBMM decided to put 4 level 1000+ players with me. Got destroyed while those 4 filled the top leaderboard with over 100 kills and 1 objective each. Quickscoping in full swing, dual shotguns, one hit kill regardless of where hit rifles, silent movement perks... Did it a couple of more times until I either got a hacked lobby or scorestreak cornered. Wasn't fun in the slightest. Deleted. CoD has gone so far downhill. I won't be buying another one until IW2/AW2. They weren't as popular because people couldn't do those kind of streaks in it as it was always possible to counter all the other perks.

Tried COD Cold War campaign a go. Finished it over a few nights and I loved it. Stunning story and characters. Probably the best campaign of all the COD's. Ridiculous download size meant I had to delete a few things to play it. Haven't tried multiplayer yet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,823 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Yeah it has a random selection of songs.

Finished it last night. Overall a good game. Not bothering with the post game stuff. Watched a playthrough and wasn't a hope I'd complete them.

Sony should make more games like this. They've shown they have the talent with this and Astro Bot. Though not sure how well Sackboy sold

Having played Cold War, I got a CoD itch, so decided to give MW2019 a go. At least this one lets you decide what you want to download, and was only interested in multiplayer, so picked the base game and 5 extras (MP pack 1, 2, 3, and 2 compatability packs). All downloaded, started up the game. After a few logos, you get the online connecting screen, which is for Warzone Caldera. It's about 2 minutes (if you don't skip) before you see the first mention of the words Modern Warfare. And even then, it's a split screen with Warzone 2/MW2 automatically selected, and on the right is Warzone/MW. Picked multiplayer, but said I was missing packs, so had to download MP pack 2 and 3 again, and both compatability packs, but worked this time.

It's better than Cold War at least, not as full of long term players, but still has a fair share. I'd imagine most are playing MW2, I bought physical and traded soon after as my predictions were true that they basically ignored multiplayer again in favour of Warzone 2. Saying that, it said I was level 38, not prestiged, but I had gold camos for LMGs and rifles... It seems to have reset my prestige maybe? Whatever, I gave up after a game where I was being blindsided by a double shotty dead silence ninja constantly.

It's the perks that have ruined the series. I think people would get over the bright colours and stupid crossover skins if the perks weren't so annoying. There should be NOTHING that makes your movement silent, unless you're literally crawling at a snails pace. Dead Silence/Ninja ruin the game. What's the point of directional audio if you're just going to silence the main reason for it... If they got rid of anything that makes your movement silent, it would improve the game tenfold. Get rid of double shotguns, or at the very least make the reload realistically long for double shotguns, along with the kickback. CoD is catering to a very specific crowd who spend too much time playing the same weapons/classes over and over just because it looks cool. I don't have much hope for MW3, but maybe it'll be "free" on Gamepass so I won't have to pay for it at least. Will still cost me money, I'll have to buy that 8BitDo controller.

As an aside, I saw the real value of Gb broadband last night. Downloading about 5Gb a minute made the overall ordeal not as bad!

Just started Metal Gear Rising on PS3 (Yep, still have it hooked up). They're not holding back on the action anyway.

Definitely feels like the other Platinum games I've played, like Bayonetta.

Was sure I owned it on Steam or Ps3 physical, but nope. So had it on Plus

Tried Alan Wake and the controls are rubbish. Gave it an hour and gave up. Tried Sniper Elite 5 and it's the exact same as the last one. Less sniping involved in the early stages and the enemies are a little smarter but ultimately it got boring.

Debating pulling the trigger on Calisto Protocol but its a little pricey on the PS store. Anyone recommend it as a single player campaign ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,823 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Started Immortals Fenyx Rising last night.

Was playing Pathfinder: kingmaker. for a while, on and off. Over 100+ hours in so more than a while.

There's a good, possibly great, game in there. It's an isometric CRPG, akin to the orignal baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Pillars of Eternity and the larian Divitys, based on first ediiton apthfinder (which is based on 3.5 D&D). turn based or real time at a click of abutton.

The story is based on a six part campaign for the original, and it is quite faithful to teh original ruleset (which can be both good and bad - the binary fail / pass of the saving throw systems can make some spells very powerful but unreliable.)

However, the PS4 port is poor. It's buggy, unstable, load times noticably degrade as the game progresses. There's also save game issues - corrruptions and interfering with the underlying OS - especially if you use PS+ cloud saves. I want to play more, but it became too frustrating to play - I had to stop.

Fortuantely, it's succesor - Wrath of the Righteous, is more stable.

Went back to playing Ragnarok, I played about 10 hours when it came out and then got bored, and I've now played a few hours more and I'm getting bored again. This never happened with the first GoW, but this one just seems absurdly long and drawn out.

Finished an Atreus section that I am amazed got through the editors. Whoever thought collecting fruit was interesting needs a reality check.

Playing GT7 mostly. I got Fruit Ninja VR a few months back, so I will probably play that next.

    I'm liking it.

I know there were loads of comparisons to Breath of the Wild, but there are worse games to take ideas from.

But I wouldn't say it rips it off. Weapons don't break, can get your horse from anywhere, plenty of powers.

Think I'm about halfway through and have the DLC ready to go as well. Have been doing a lot of side stuff and the vaults (its version of shrines, I guess) are usually bigger than shrines and boss areas are more like dungeons than the Divine Beasts.

I played it on Switch and really enjoyed it... enjoyed it more than BotW which is saying something 🤣

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,823 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

The bird is great in it. Especially when you increase the abilities. At the moment it generates a shockwave while also recovering 1 piece of energy with each hit. Handy for crowd control, especially when low on health.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,824 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

IFR got the fun factor right. And the toeing the line for PG dialogue between the Gods can be quite good. Just a fun, colourful game. Never played the DLC but it didn't get great feedback, too different. But I'd happily play a second one, pity they cancelled it.

Gave Cursed to Golf a go, interesting idea but it feels like a mobile game that evolved. Roguelike 2d minigolf with cards and a story. Kinda bored of it already.

Two Point Hospital is grand, gets panicky fast and I'm only on the 3rd hospital. Not sure if it'll have the legs to keep me interested, my doctors keep killing people and they shouldn't be!

Was re-playing The Witcher 3, but I'm at the Dandelion questline and I've lost all interest in it. Wish I could just skip past this whole section as knowing what's coming has pulled any will to continue out of me. Had already tried to replay Spiderman and even bought the PS5 upgrade, but similarly lost interest soon into it. Said I'd give Miles a spin for the first time and I'm actually getting into it, so I know now for definite that a game would want to be outstanding to me in order to me to be able to replay it.

Alan Wake - a thriller\horror game where you play the part of a writer trying to find his missing wife. The controls are rather clunky but I'm halfway through and enjoying it so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,542 ✭✭✭Dr. Bre

Spider-Man Miles Morales . It’s a very short story tho

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,297 ✭✭✭Damien360

On a playstation related theme. Just out of Gran Turismo the movie. Watchable car porn but leave your brain outside. Not a bad nod to the game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,823 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Immortals Fenyx Rising Lost Gods DLC.

Not enjoying it. Not sure what they were thinking going with the isometric style camera. Considering it has a lot of the same mechanics as the base game, Not being able to look around and up makes the game needlessly hard.

I had to reload an earlier save after getting to an area and not being able to find my way out.

Also with the amount of enemies on screen at the same time sometimes, it can be hard to tell what's going on. Reminds me of God of War Ascension when the camera zoomed out so far you couldn't tell what was happening.

Just checked a video there, bizarre decision, makes it look like a mobile game now
