I don’t think he’ll make much out of it when you take VRT, duty, VAT, shipping, Nox, NCT, tyres etc.
That’s a near bottom of the barrel example, manual, base spec, white, high mileage.

I agree with you, doesn't make it any more sensie a price though.

If you wanted a small japanese petrol car, there are so many nicer things out there with a €5k budget.

Any thoughts on this, been on sale for a while now,
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/awd-2-2-diesel-toyota-rav4-december-2007/24069789
I'm on the look out for a rav4, bit of trailer work & short commute.
    Thanks

The nox tax on it will be massive. It’s also taxed on cc as 2.3

It’s way overpriced for what it is.

Nox charge on that is €1850 plus €600 VRT, so €2450 plus €4000 to buy it.

    then €994 to tax it.

    EDIT
Actually, that’s not even a D-CAT model, so nox emissions are way higher.

Made that €600 VRT, €3850 Nox and €4000 for the car :)

    And €994 to tax
    €8450

Thanks colm, was wondering about the nox alright. I suppose there's a reason why it's unsold

High road tax, vrt, plus nox charge. I wouldn't take it for free. It would cost less to buy an Irish one.

This is strangely alluring! I don't think it gets more basic than this in a 21st century car

    Just no Duke.

I've been looking at them on JDM auction watch all day!

Honestly, go outside and keep driving until you meet the first check point you find.
Once you do, explain to the police what it is you're doing all day.
They should be able to escort you to the nearest bar possible

Almost expired NCT so chancery enough at that money. Seller has other cars for sale too so may know more about the expiring NCT than letting on in the advert. Could also be because of the current crisis too but as said it's a big gamble at that money:

Panel gaps and paint on the front end might be the reason, drivers door isn't fully closed but that and the passenger one have seen paint and the bonnets not lining up with the wing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,178 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Yeah, at first look I thought the driver's door just wasn't closed fully but looking closer the panel gaps at that side are terrible, the side skirt looks misaligned at the bottom too. It's definitely got a few different shades of paint which might explain the photos taken in poor light or near dusk.

Have driven a few of them and I have to say they drive very different to a GTi in terms of power delivery IMO and I think a lot of that is how the power is put down being 4motion as opposed to front wheel drive.

The noise is fab too and something you dont usually get in a Gold sized vehicle, they are a lovely car.

I agree though, you'd need to really love a car to put a 2 grand tax disc in the window and I dont know does any kind of Golf no matter how spicey, justify that kind of thing. Particularly when a GTi looks similar, similar power figure on paper, lower purchase price and a third of the tax.

The R32 have a sense of occasion about them too I find. GTIs are fairly popular so theres no real novelty factor in them. Yes great sound out of the R32 alright. A good bit heavier than the GTI though.

8050 Sterling is around 9150 euros. That's about right.

    Cheap MPS, €1250.

Original Irish and 1 previous owner, could be a nice tidy up project

I think it's priced sensibly, I wouldn't say there's much negotiation in that.

Looking at that picture of under the bonnet again, I'd say there'd be a good bit more work needed than a new battery and a sup of fuel to get that motoring again. Still though, what else would you be at!?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

That's it. It has Shimo Deane all over it. Buy for €1k, spend €1k tidying it up, rare opportunity, original irish, barn find yada yada yada, €9950 please.

I hope there is no rust underneath, those 6s are lethal for it.

I'd absolutely love that MPS, it's one on my list of itches that need to be scratched

Exactly, you've a few weeks to work away with it! Looks like a fairly honest engine bay

Be pretty easy to check that. I'd be more worried about the 50 rubber hoses in the engine bay, all dying to be the first to blow. Then theres the insurance man. Go heavy on the vaseline before you get a quote on that.

If you can get past that, you've a belter of a car.

There has to be a reason it was parked in the shed in the first place four years ago and left to rot.

300,000 k on an engine that was likely ragged for most if its life. No thanks.

Plus, timing chain will Rattle on these engines and it's an engine out job to replace! Pricey job
