Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Think UCD beat Trinity the week before their qualifier. Maybe Belvo were missing a few or just had an off day?

I heard it was pretty close contested until trinity scored like 5 tries in the last 20 minutes

    Lansdowne 26 Belvo 25

Belvo must have the worst luck in the league, twice they've lost by a point now.
    Any team sheets?

    Who plays in that?

    UCC, UCD, Trinity, NUIG, Queens??

Trinity won the Conroy Cup for the 5TH time in a row beating UCD in the final

What happened there? Was told that Blackrock had a strong enough side this year

  • Registered Users Posts: 636 ✭✭✭Chico Flores

    Two games yesterday

    Trinity 41 UCD 17
    Terenure 31 Barnhall 22

Was in watching my mates in marathon and strolling home I decided to watch the Terenure Barnhall game. Terenure won with bonus point but barnhall the better side.

They have a savage pack and scrum, just let down in the backs. Whereas Terenure got into barnhall 22 5 times and got 4 tries and a penalty.

Terenure 9 and 13 pick of their lot.

Barnhall second rows and their 13 their pick

Good game though. Well played and well reffed.

Munster league proper are starting next weekend
    u20 Donal Walsh Trophy
Young Munster, Cork Con, Garryowen, UCC, Shannon
    u20 Donal Walsh Plate
UCC Bloodhounds, Bruff, Old Crescent, UL Bohs

Shame the Munster branch havent done more to develop another tier for more non city clubs.

Heard that they play them AIlL one week 20s the next week and target which games they think they could win, hasn’t worked for them or Belvo despite the “resources” they have put into it.

There was supposed to be a new rule that when a team scored more than 50 on a 20s opponent they were declared winners

I hear the Trinity UCD game was actually quite close but some yellow cards for UCD and quick tries for Trinity just killed off any UCD spirit.

Trinity seem to be going very well, them vs Tarf will be very very interesting.

Also hear Terenure got the bonus point and a 20 point lead before getting a yellow during which Barnhall scored a couple of tries which put a gloss on the score from their perspective.

Wouldn't necessarily agree on Terenure, don't remember them getting a yellow mind.

Barnhall were game and had a massive scrum. Just lacked the threat or talent I suppose. Terenure were about 20 up alright but as I Said I just thought they were much more clinical.

It was 28-22 with 15 to go.

Friend that was there said Terenure went 28-8 then their 10 got a yellow around 25 left and during those 10 minutes Barnhall scored and converted twice. Apparently the scrum was only going one way all game and Barnhall were the bigger team but had no plan B just tried to outmuscle Terenure the whole game

That's prob about right to be fair. I have no dog in the fight. Was just killing the afternoon.

No plan from barnhall bar forwards or give It to the 13.

  • Registered Users Posts: 636 ✭✭✭Chico Flores

So in reality it looks like

    Blackrock 8th
    Barnhall 7th
    Belvo 6th
    Terenure 5th
UCD 4th (assume they will get it together)
    Lansdowne 3rd

And Tarf and Trinity square off for 1/2

I wasn't there so I don't know for sure but just from the sounds of it it was forwards vs backs, I do know losing your 10 can be a big obstacle to overcome though so would explain a rough patch in the game

    Blackrock 8th
    Barnhall 7th

I'd probably say that's around right, could probably make 3 interchangeable groups of Rock Barnhall, Terenure Belvo UCD Lansdowne, Tarf Trinity and everyone in the groups would be pretty interchangeable. Battle for 3rf and 4th will be exciting by looks of it.

To be honest, it is way too early to suggest a potential league standing. There obviously is the Top 2, with Lansdowne looking solid but I'd almost argue the other 5 are all battling for Top 4. I'd also back Blackrock to finish 7th or 6th with the talent they apparently have. Navan were a shambles years ago only to go on a great run post Christmas. Clontarf last year also upped it a gear or two after Christmas it seemed last year.

Do the Irish u 20s have a training came around this time like the u18s or do they wait till Christmas time?

They'll have had some camps already and will have more then some warm up games like usual around christmas with provincial sides likely opponents like previous years

Most of Rocks better 20s players are up with their first XV so unless they've a game on a weekend of no AIL I'd say the chances of them playing for them are slim, nevermind playing for them enough to turn around their season from where they'll be challenging the others week in week out

They dont have that many 20s playing AIL judging by quick glance at their teamsheets of previous few AIL games.

Rock have 8 players (all forwards) that are legible to play for the under 20s to have played first XV rugby in the AIL already and that's not including Adam Lamour (Injured I believe) who started multiple games for the Firsts last year

Given (more or less) their 20s season isn't going to go anywhere.

I imagine they will all focus on the 1s?

Andrew Savage, Steve McLoughlin, Joe Byrne, Conan Dunne, Jack Stapleton, Dan Foley, James Burke, Adam Larmour and Alan Francis have all been involved with the AIL side in the last few weeks according to their Twitter page and are all U20. Must be frustrating for their 20s as that's more or less strongest pack at that level, especially with Byrne.

Wonder what Premier 1 club loses least players to AIL side each week.

Milne is the biggest prop I’ve seen at u20 level in a long time, he was the size of a professional prop when he was only 16!

Andrew Porter was bigger at u20 level.

Milne got too big while at Roscrea in 5th year, wasn't as explosive or mobile and was more injury prone.

Has relatively slimmed down now, has struggled at TH for UCD U20 since moving back there post Leinster A involvement.
