Why do we keep doing our best to rule out options? Management and players should decide what they want and nominate a ground.

Are kilkenny and Dublin playing on different days the weekend of the clare match?

3 times in Thurlus an advantage to us... Really?

Does this mean by default we must be at a disadvantage or its a no go? Its our home game, we should have whatever advantage we can get.

If Waterford choice its not accepted, then faher field it is(if it was not already the first choice)

As an aside, if either the semi or county football final are draws after extra time then we either won't have a football rep in Munster or they'll be playing two days on the spin. That is some farce considering how long were out of the inter county championships.

Questions need to be asked about this CB at this stage ??

I knw some clubs were dual but they could easily have played some games earlier we were finished intercounty action in both hurling and football on the 23rd June!!

I can’t understand this, the Munster Council won’t let Waterford play in Thurles 3 times because it would be an advantage? Is playing at home not an advantage? These fellas have to be the biggest bunch of gombeens.

Why are people so opposed to having the game in Fraher field? What is the benefit to us, of having more people at the game in someone elses ground?

    Absolutely none, thats what!

Cant believe people are even entertaining the idea of accepting our home games to be away after our championship this year.

Iv a feeling that Fraher field won't wash. The Munster council have the upper hand here because they have their fingers on the purse strings for the grant for Walsh Park. I see it going one of 2 ways.
Thurles or PUI for the Limerick game as it's the All Ireland champions and they ll bring 15,000. They 'll throw a sop to Waterford by allowing them to Play Clare of a Saturday in Nowlan Park.

Even if it did pass health and safety inspections, the absolute max Fraher Field would get approval to hold is 5k The big stumbling block is the grass banks, comparing with Newbridge and Ennis is not like with like as they have holding barriers in standing areas.

There was over 4K for the junior and county finals last Sunday which seemed a comfortable figure, but when you throw in Munster championship officialdom and co board suits, media, radio, tv crews, not to mention entire backroom teams for both sets of senior and minor teams, that would pushing it to the limits. Id love to see it happen more than the next man but its not all as straight forward as people want to make out

Would you need planning permission to concrete the grass banks and tier them?

It needs to be done anyway so would be a good time to do it

Plus Nowlan Park would definitely handle the crowd for the Limerick game.

Level game at HT in the intermediate final 1-6 each

Clonea better team with TDB being the main man for Clashmore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,668 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Clonea 2-13- Clashmore 1-12 Full time

Clonea better team throughout the game but Clashmore had there chances

    Clonea senior for 2019

Shocking standard. Tadgh head and shoulders above everyone else on the field. Congrats to clonea but I fear for their safety at senior next year. If Brian O Halloran is an inter county hurler then we’ in serious trouble. He was abysmal.

    You are joking right

No I thought Clonea was a town

So this club that won today was Clonea power/Rathgormack

So a drab intermediate final is the basis for defining someone’s intercounty career....his performances in the county jersey over the years count for nothing then? Including a brilliant point after coming off the bench in the All Ireland final last tear?

Ah cmon how could you only have realized that now in fairness, do you even go to club matches? Yes Rathgormack are the football side and Clonea in hurling. The other Clonea would be part of Abbeyside/Balinacourty

I'd say he goes to more club games than most in fairness.

Ended up at the Cork County final today. Must say I feel sorry for Midleton having to play Ballygunner after the drubbing they got. Can only see one winner there.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 486 ✭✭Jjjjjjjbarry

What's the deal with Cork anyway? Why do the they have non-club teams playing in the club county championship. It's actually scandalous that losing county finalists go on to play in munster with their heads down when they should be on a high?

John Mitchell's also the football side of clonea

All so confusing and u have to think how some clubs esp ones in the far west of Waterford have enough players to have a team

There's a Glen Rovers GAA club near Cappoquin, never knw that ???

Been from the city it's one thing you don't get unless u played underage/family are members etc is club loyalty with the whole village part of it. I could tech support any of DLS/Mount Sion/Erins Own/Roanmore etc but I just want any club from Waterford to do well no matter what part

Quite sure they’re Fews in hurling and play junior B

Fews junior b !!!! Long time since fews had any team in any championship, John Mitchell's had a junior team few years back didn't last long

Glen Rovers are based in Mount Melleray, only a small club usually junior b or junior c. Were joined with Tourin for a while and won a county but back on their own again now

While Nowlan Park would indeed be a good 'compromise', it was ruled out last year and there's no point wasting time and effort revisiting that argument as the reasons for the refusal haven't changed. What has changed this year is that the GAA's blithe insistence on 'health & safety' as the reason for not staging games in small venues has been exposed for the lie that it is. The people who decide on health & safety issues are quite happy for small venues to be used as long as they meet the requirements of, you know, health & safety. The bottom line is that the County Board need to force the Munster Council to say no and outline why they are saying no. Let one of them do a Ned Quinn and say (while not saying) there would be crowd trouble from people who couldn't get tickets.
