    €20 is saucy enough

What annoys me about the pricing is how hard it is to get the discount. Obviously there is a cost to providing an online ticket facility but I looked on tickets.ie and you can get Shelbourne tickets online. They average 660 at home games, yet manage to have an online presence.

The pricing is definitely an issue and for those that can afford the season ticket then I would strongly advise them to buy one because it’s definitely value for money throughout the year.
On the other hand if you can’t afford it then €20 is a bit saucy but theoretically you will have around 4 hours entertainment, which on the face of it isn’t bad value and also the option is there to buy them for €15 tonight in both Walsh Park and Fraher Field.
On the flip side how long would €15 or €20 last you in a pub!!

For a county final that many expect to be one sided, and when only a couple of thousand turned up last year, hiking the prices up seems absurd to me. I know they're trying to make a few quid but it will likely have the opposite effect with people staying away.

The availability of the 15 euro tickets is very limited too.

I'll be there and I'll pay my €20 but I wouldn't think it's a good move by the county board.

Can see Abbeyside staying with Ballygunner for about 45 mins and the Ballygunner will take over to win the game by 5+.

Whoever wins faces a tough Munster QF against Midleton (I think UCC can't play in the Prov if they win the cork title ?) and if they come through its the Clare champs in the semis.

Talk of Ballygunner aiming a lot of higher than the Waterford championship this year. Can't see Abbeyside going far in Munster

I can't see abbeyside living with Ballygunner if the Gunners hurl like they did against Passage. DLS left the semi final behind them in the second half, can't see Ballygunner being as generous.

Good draw for Waterford champions this year, couple of home games is crucial. Imokily beat ucc I believe but anyway it's Middleton who will represent cork in Munster this year.

UCC aren’t in the cork county final. Imokilly are. But as they are a group team Midelton will represent Cork

No disrespect to Ballinameela, but it would be good for hurling in the county for Tramore to move up to Intermediate. For a town that is now the second biggest in the county (2016 population 10,381) their contribution to GAA in the county has been minimal. They had a good football team over 40 years ago, but never made any impact on the hurling front. If the county board had any forward-thinking vision or organisational ability, they would have put a big effort into building up the GAA in the town - yet another of their many failings.

I don't agree with the poster who said that De La Salle left their game against Abbeyside behind. They had just two more wides than Abbeyside, who passed up a hatful of goal opportunities, some of which should have been tap-over points.

Don't worry about Tramore. With my son coming through the ranks, success is assured.

They we're inter a few years ago think they might have put themselves back down to junior grade. They now have a full time coach in the town employed by the gaa,

hopefully Fanning will get top class coaches/physio's and stats people into the setup. Guys like these are very important nowadays

Paul Kinerk has won 2 Senior All Ireland titles being part of backroom teams. Was it the Limerick physio who has been part of a load of AI winning teams too ??

I would imagine the coaches you refer to will be Fanning, Kearney and Murray. Unless someone else is added to the ticket in the mean time that is.
The sports psychologist involved with Limerick is who you are thinking of, Caroline Currid I think her name is.
I’d imagine there would be a team of physios and a sports psychologist on board although the psychologist may not be part of the set up early in the year when it’s mainly fitness and gym sessions.

There was an initiative by WIT a good number of years back to introduce hurling in the schools in Tramore, doesn’t seem to have beared fruit, but if that’s true about the GAA employing a full time coach there it’s a positive thing. As a county we have limited enough playing pool compared to others so to just ignore the potential a town of 10k people can bring would be a crime. That’s partly how Dublin have become so strong, they’ve honed in on areas with a large young population that wouldn’t traditionally be gas stronghold and promoted the game to the kids there.
Tramore has traditionally been a soccer town first and that’s no criticism of anyone. But there is huge potential to increase playing numbers within the area and ultimately the county

Tramore is a funny one, with the population it has it really should be far more prominent in Waterford GAA. But it isnt really a GAA town either, there are 2 clubs in the town competing in the soccer Premier League, compared to 1 junior hurling team. Soccer has always been big in Tramore and continues to be.

Also, I know families who moved out form the city to live in Tramore and drive the children back to the city to the club of the parents. I was in one of those housing estates off the Ring Road in Tramore last year and saw young lads with hurleys out for a puck around on the green, all in Mount Sion tops.

I hadnt heard that there is a full time GAA officer in Tramore but if that is the case then its very good news. Will take time but definitely a step in the right direction. Regardless of the strength of soccer in the town, a town of over 10,000 people having 1 junior hurling team is incredible really.

If memory serves me right, Ballinameela and Tramore played in the Senior Football Final in 1984 with Tramore winning. Ballinameela have always been near enough to getting out of Junior hurling most years and then just a little short of managing to get a long run in the grade above. Like most clubs, it all depends on the talent they have at the time so hopefully they will give it a good go tomorrow.

Slightly off current topic but none the less significant - the planning permission granted by council last month has been appealed to an bord pleanala....from the councils web site where you can get details of planning applications it looks like two groups of local residents decided that co boards submission re traffic and parking for big match days was not adequate.....where this might put the project is anyone’s guess. At best it will delay construction by another 6 months and at worst it could mean the whole project is in jeopardy......,time will tell as usual. Maybe Croke Park and most recently pairc ui chaoimh re-developments will be taken into account where much larger re-developments were allowed to take place within urban residential areas

    Jesus Christ

I thought it 100% got the go ahead ???

Questions will start to be asked IF we start playing in Fraher Field and work has not started

As good as an achievement it is for abbeyside to make their first final in over a decade it has to be disheartening for the, and every other senior club, to see ballygunner cruise to yet another title.

Still nothing last forever, especially in sport, and someone will topple them, hopefully sooner than later.

    Congrats to the champions ballygunner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,664 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

5 in a row is an amazing achievement but the Waterford club scene needs a genuine challenger for Ballygunner who are an unbelievable and spirited club

How do ye reckon they will do in Munster ??? Surely there experts in that comp by now. Face Midleton of Cork in the QF

Any official word on attendance today. Stand seemed fairly full and a nice crowd on the opposite bank.
