The performance and drive was probably bad enough without the hassle of the season ticket scanner not working ha

    Ferns on Sunday.

Note it's Ferns GAA picth. Not the centre of excellence.
new ross and enniscorthy both bypassed now which will shorten the journey

Mikey Kearney is an enigma to me in that he's extremely skilful, has decent pace and is plenty brave. But aside from odd flashes he just doesn't seem to amount to the sum of his parts. A couple of times on Sunday he was trying to over complicate things (his goal chance at the end of the first half for one) which could be the sign of a guy that's unhappy with his form and trying to do too much to compensate. I think to say he's not good enough is unfair. On ability he offers something but he hasn't shown it enough. There's a couple of other players I'd guess that would be more likely to be cut before the championship panel.

On a side note, it was interesting that Liam Cahill loved him to wing forward when Montgomery came off and Paudi Mahoney went midfield.

I do agree with ya. He does provide us with flashes but come championship time coming off the bench (assuming he wouldnt be starting) would he give you enough to change or even influence a game? I'm not so sure. I've watched him throughout underage and I think hes a very skillful hurler - but to agree with your point he hasn't shown enough. Down a few scores in the heat of championship he would be far down my list of lads I'd look to come on and give me a few scores.

I dont think he will be cut come championship but he needs to show me more. Often on occasion he has had time for a score and hes rushed his shot or mis-hit it. Might be down to nerves or trying to do too much as you said.

Yeah was surprised to see that switch myself. Cahill is giving Mikey his opportunity to show him something anyways.

If only Stephen could talk Shane back into joining the setup

Jesus that would be great. I'm not getting carried away in the slightest by 2 league performances one against Westmeath but I genuinely have a feeling that this could be a decent year for us. From speaking to one or two of the lads - there's a different approach/mood to this year from them. They were embarrassed last year. With the surprise cuts by Liam this year already - very few places are guaranteed. Training has been ferocious and the training matches have been very tough and hard fought.
Liam doesn't have long left to figure out his team come championship but I am looking forward to seeing how we fare up against Limerick who always seem to be near championship form in the league.

When is Jamie Barron back? If Cahill can get him back to his 2017 form, that'd be another major plus.

Liam Cahill will need a new selector by June.
Stephen Molomphy off to the States for a year.

Did he only find out recently? Why would ya put yourself forward for the position if you knew you be leaving mid season?

I don't know anybody involved but people's personal positions can change, often without much notice. I don't think anyone would go into any intercounty position without thinking long and hard about it, especially someone who has been at the coal face and knows what's required in terms of the time committment. As someone who captained Waterford so capably I think people should give him the benefit of the doubt if this story is true.

Surely they're not expecting the footballers out tonight?

That's a game they really should be winning at home tonight in those conditions.

James Joxer O'Connor gone in with Ballyhale Shamrocks replacing Shefflin after being with Fr O'Neill's and previously Lismore, good news if he had ambitions to potentially manage Waterford in the future, building up the CV and hopefully he will be successful (but not at a Waterford club's expense!)

Good luck to him, that’s as big a club job as you could get. Going in after Shefflin is a tough gig though, given his standing in that club and what he has achieved.

Next 3 games are a real indicator of where we really are. One win possibly enough for a QF place

Another big loss to Limerick up in that bloody place could be damaging. A win up there would be fantastic

Galway owe us one in Walsh Park and Tipp in Thurles is the real deal

game was played at Wexford centre of excellence which is in the same village, opening of dressing rooms and pitch was postponed with the weather warning. Didn't hear anything about your team just that we played chin and O'Hanlon (returning from injury) and O'Keeffe ( was travelling for about 2 months), for parts of the game, rest of our team was squad players.

On the football Saturday evening heard conditions were barely playable in the 1st half and unplayable in the 2nd half

Next 3 games are against the last three All-Ireland winners. Even if we lose all three we should have, at the very least, got a very good measure of where our team is at. We beat Galway in the league semi-final last year, but other than that it's been a while since we've beaten either Limerick or Tipp ( ghost goal aside etc. etc. ) so I expect Waterford to be up for it.

Exactly - I think at the moment out of the 3 teams - Limerick look to be closest to championship level currently.

Personally I really dislike the gaelic grounds, I have never left that place in good humor.

Jesus a win up there would be massive as it will most likely mean were into the next round and it's that monkey off our backs

Limerick are flying atm and no doubt it's going to a challenge for us

I really don't think the next few games are a monkey on our backs at all. We've nothing to lose apart from the games themselves. They team will set out to win every game and learn from the experience either way. Not making the quarter finals will be disappointing but won't factor in the longer plans for the year. Limerick won the league last year and were beaten in the AI semi finals by a Kilkenny team that didn't even make it to the League knockouts earlier that year. Tipp were beaten by Dublin in the League semis and went on to win the AI. We beat Clare in the League QFs and they went on to beat us in Munster.

I'm not saying I wouldn't be delighted to see them win the league, of course I would, I'm just saying that the league as a predictor of summer form isn't that great and its primary purpose, especially for a new manager, is to get a measure of his panel and find those that fit his vision for how the team go about their business. I want to see a panel hungry for a starting position they have to fight to earn. I want to see pride in the colours and each other, with every member of the panel willing to die on the field for the rest of the team. From that level of commitment, camaraderie and beliefwe can see something great emerge. Skill alone will only get them so far.

I think I'd agree. And to be honest, I'd much rather play teams like Limerick, Galway and Tipperary than play weaker teams. There's a better chance of learning from those games. Last year in Division 2 we were able to coast through a few games and it did us no favours.
