Very true and could say a lot about Waterford if we lose too a Clare team with so many injuries at home

This time next week hopefully were walking out of Walsh Park smiling and looking forward too future challenges

I hate this new calendar as we could effectively be out of the Championship a week earlier than last year. Primary school kids might have no hurling to look forward too for there summer holidays. Found the old system was better and spread out the summer. It's all so congested now

As a Clare man, I won't be using injuries as an excuse if Waterford win PTH.

Conor Cleary is a loss because we don't have an obvious replacement, but that's about it, most of the other lads are 1st subs / maybe borderline starters like Ian Galvin or Oisin O'Brien. But we will be starting pretty much 14 of our 15 best players, there is no excuses. The best team will be whoever wins on Sunday.

Looking forward to heading to Waterford this weekend, pitch looks in great nick! Happy for ye guys to hold your home games, what I like about the new Munster championship is to be able to travel the province to packed grounds to watch hurling in the summer. Have a pint in the pub after. You can't beat it!

The minors beat wexford by 9 or 10 points in their last challenge game, down in wexford too, so hopefully they will be competitive. It would be a big boost if that Fitzgerald lad from passage is fit to play. Think he is only 15 but was a key player for dls in harty cup run.

Guess it might not be a sellout then. I'd say having it on TV might damage it a bit for the casual Waterford supporter who could be arsed searching for a ticket

    http://www.hoganstand.com/Article/Index/298923

Could have a factor but naturally was going too happen after last March's league QF

I'd say the couldnt be arsed factor moreso applies to the fact the older generation who couldnt get one of the stand tickets arent pushed standing on the terrace. Ifs not for everyone tbf.

For god sake will you just be happy you got a stand ticket and stop your old whinging.
I am delighted to have got my unreserved ticket for the east terrace.
And whether it rains frogs or thunders out of the heavens on me I am thrilled to be going.

Quarter of a million, sur that's more than twice our population!!

Still a nice few tickets available for anyone interested in going. Will probably sell out before Sunday but you have to ask where is the huge demand that we were led to beleive there would be when we had no home games?

The league attendance were shocking also. Only 2k for a league quarter final at home. At what stage did we go from being one of the best supported hurling counties to one of the poorest?

I remember being at the 02 semi final against Clare and it was definitely 2:1 Waterford support. Reckon around 35,000 Waterford fans were there.

Huge crowds attended Waterford games in the early-mid 2000's

Our support numbers have been very poor for some time now. If I had to pick a time when it started to go to $hite, I'd say after the 2008 AI final.

the time the county board stuck a levy on tickets for waterford supporters for me was the day the music died. (think it was the munster final against tipp under davy). it really showed the disdain that was held for joe public & grassroots.

like every other county going well or reasonably well. taking the GAA as a whole in both codes i'd say we would be lucky to make the top 10

Attendances are weird. There were probably more Waterford supporters at the Cork game last year than the other three games even though it was a dead rubber. I think it's because it was In Thurles and people have a bee in their bonnet about games Not In Thurles. There were 14,410 at the Under-21 final back in 2016 which was at least 90% Waterford fans and compared very favourably with the 18,544 at the previous year's final between Limerick and Wexford, two counties who cannot afford to be blasé about underage success. Yet 14.410 is paltry compared to the sea of humanity that was rammed into Nowlan Park for both Under-21 finals in 1992 against Offaly. Attendances are weird.

Getting to 11 All-Ireland semi finals in the last 2 decades has probably taken the sting out of support too.

Anyone who wants a ticket will get one for Sunday I imagine now. Lots of clubs and even club deise have hold of a few

I wonder is the fact it's the last day of the premiership too that people would rather go too the pub and watch on TV ???

There's loads spare in Clare and some clubs can't get them returned now.
