Do you know what sickens me? The reason I mentioned Catholicism is because hard line Catholics tried to push the idea that good Catholics shouldn't vote yes. It gave many conflicted feelings but many chose to vote yes, my mother included. My point was not to bash Catholics as you read it. My point was that the reality is that pro choice Catholics were a significant part of those who voted yes. If anything it's praise that they didn't end up dictated to, in much the same way as the marriage referendum.

Not really the people who allowed babies to die and put them in a septic tank were supposed to be taking care of them not abusing them and others in their care, a hypocrisy you obviously don't see.

Don't like the fact you lost sure you can start protesting outside hospitals or GP surgeries if you feel that strongly about it.

They are totally included as the issue was te 8th amendment not one smaller chunk that you fancy picking.

Different to deliberately ending their existance through induced miscarriage, flushing them down the toilet and then calling it "dignified".

I'm a massive no supporter, I voted no. However, the carry-on and disgusting behaviour of the no side has me seriously regretting my decision.

Am I doing it right? I keep forgetting how it's supposed to go again.

As for people still debating the referendum, what's going on there? It's over, it was a resounding win for the yes side. Legal, safe abortion is coming to Ireland.

I'm always amazed at the people who decry what happened but conveniently ignore the fact that many of these women were handed over to these institutions by their families.
It doesn't minimise what happened to them but where is the culpability of the families in all this?

Do you think flushing a foetus down a toilet is also dignified? Its about as undignified an ending as you can get.

Delighted. Was cautiously optimistic over the final week to ten days, thinking Yes would just about get it over the line, 55:45 max. Feels good being wrong.

Another reaffirmation that headbangers on here and the likes of Iona who are so sure they represent the views of a silent majority who are ignored by a tiny liberal elite are just. Plain. Wrong. That silent majority doesn't exist. This is a liberal democracy and a decent, compassionate society; and now our laws can more accurately reflect that in one very important way.

This has been a very difficult campaign for a lot of people, and I do feel sorry for No voters too. None of this was pleasant, but the outcome was the right one. Difficult question, complicated cultural context and we made the right call. Very proud to be Irish today. I'm sure we'll have another few atrocities from the era of church control to be uncovered at some point though.
