I realise that contraception is not 100% effective. However, when used correctly, I believe it is very effective. I'm not sure exactly what the figures are but I believe it is about 99% if not more. The women who are unlucky enough to find themselves pregnant as a result of failed contraception are tiny. We should not change our laws so radically to deal with this very rare occurrence.
    That number is wrong.
Telling someone to not have sex is not going to happen. This not some imaginary world where contraception is 100% effective, everyone wants children and we have complete control over ourselves.
Reality is although we are self aware and sentient we are still animals who's base instincts rule, that includes the need for sex which leads to reproduction. But just because we are animals we should not have to put with with the consequences. We are more than that and its time to let women be who we want to be rather than something that supposed to be.

Sorry no, all said things can be gained from additional activity.

If someone's primary motivation for intercourse is pleasure... there's a plethora of other ways to gain that without creating and involving a third party

    Stop making excuses

Abstinence isn't a viable alternative, and abstinence only education results in similar or higher pregnancy rates as comprehensive education

Someone has been very busy down my way. More and more handwritten reposts to the yes posters have been hung underneath them.
Eg. "It's her choice" and now underneath "give the baby a choice too". That's one of the more sensible ones, the rest are just annoying at best and downright insulting at worst.
My mother would be regarded as traditional, mass going and conservative but she's voting Yes. When I told her that there were No campaigners once more holding placards along the bridges in Enniscorthy, she rolled her eyes and said something along the lines of "they are cracked".
Those are all illegal...but they show an element of the No side up for the loonies they are so I would leave them be.

Men need to ejaculate to orgasm which yes, is linked to human reproduction = women don't.
The female orgasm can occur independently of coitus. Meaning for women orgasm [i.e. sexual pleasure] is not linked to human reproduction.
But surely the pleasure associated with clitoral stimulation means that sex (and therefore reproduction) are more likely to reoccur.

You have zero Idea of my vote on Friday. So until I express my view you're essentially talking unsubstantiated nonsense about my views of yes/no

I replied to a specific post in a specific context...I keep my involvement in this debate limited because both sides are riddled with typical snowflakey responses on both sides and immature comments such as above

Had a good chat with a guy I've been friends with since I was about 8. Was surprised a bit to hear he was considering voting no.

His rationale had very little to do with anything raised by anyone in any discussion I've seen. His concern was around the fathers rights. He actually had no issue with the scenario where, if legal, the woman wanted an abortion and the father didn't. Agreed she should get her say.
He had a problem with when the roles were reversed and the father wanted one but the mother didn't. The father is then expected to continue to support the child financially for the next 18 years and beyond.
I put it to him that I agree that if passed this is a scenario that should be looked at and is unfair. But that ultimately this is a separate issue to legislated for in a separate way. It has very little to do with what is voted on on Friday. Also pointed out his issue is not with abortion and he in fact agrees with it. So why deny it?

I can only hope he sees sense

Well given your views on recreational sex it’s not exactly a wild leap to guess what way you’re leaning

I tried to find out who's representing the Yes side but can't find out.
No, side may be subject to change!

That is dependent entirely on the individuals, surely. You cannot dictate what people need for a healthy relationship, as long as it is lawful. You do not know what is needed to preserve any given family unit, you are unavoidably ignorant of those facts. You need to get your nose out of other people's bedrooms.

The only one getting their snowflake on here is you tbh. Imagine judging people for having a healthy attitude to sex. Post hysterical rubbish and people are going to laugh at it.

Except abstinence is not engaging in sexual activity... whereas I suggested avoiding intercourse only... I never mentioned anything about the rest...so perhaps reread my original post

Or horse riding... Or driving a motorbike on a typical Irish road. Not much fun for heterosexual men if heterosexual women all decide that pregnancy is too much of a risk so it's Harley Davidson down the M25 from now on.

The point being that for a woman sexual pleasure is not linked to human reproduction.

True, a sneaky finger that we don't talk about afterwards would indeed bring many men back for more and perhaps increase the chances of fertilisation

Stamp collecting, for example, an excellent hobby for a young girl.

My girlfriend and I have been talking about having a child, not trying until next year. Long story short; we aren't quite there yet regarding financial security.

Last night, to avoid her becoming pregnant earlier than we'd like, we decided to partake in an additional activity. I cooked us both a nice meal. Steak, roast potatoes, some green beans sauteed in butter and some pepper sauce. Afterwards, we lit some candles, lay down in front of the fireplace with some wine for some fun. We each took turns, but before I could control myself, I blurted out "Colonel Mustard, in the conservatory with the candlestick". She opened up the case file and it was actually Professor Plum. She told me I was too early but we could continue having fun. But I said I was tired, rolled over and went to sleep.

See? Why have sex and risk pregnancy when you can maintain a loving relationship like this?

Oh yes, I copped that on after I posted it as your "idea" is currently getting ripped to shreds.

I'm trying to find out if you are for real with your men rely on women to protect their children in utereo spiel.

A statement that completely ignores the fact that the utereo in question belongs to a woman and it should be her choice if she wants to have it occupied or not.

But men do rely on women for this. I don't see how that's a controversial statement. As for the question of choice, well that's for the electorate to determine on Friday.
They may do, but they do not get to insist upon it.

Women can come from straight penetrative sex, I've seen it!
