I had to drive between Cork, Dublin and Galway over the long weekend. Is there a pole in Ireland that doesn't have a NO poster on it? The relentless barrage of lie after lie after lie along the road really annoyed me. As a result I have donated another €100 to togetherforyes this morning.

The amount of money spent on NO posters must be absolutely mind-boggling, it's quite disturbing thinking about how the NO campaign must be getting funded.

It is hard to pick a winner in the over 20,000 posts this series of threads has had isn't it? How can one pick the most outlandish or repugnant nonsense "winner" from such a strong field.

For me however it has to be between these three:

    1) That abortion will somehow lead to Sharia Law.

    2) That we should deal with the "rape" issue of access to abortion by having a panel that raped women have to sit before in order to convince them she actually was raped. And if they are convinced, they can rubber stamp her abortion.

    3) The abortion harms the lower social classes because being pregnant, and being forced to go through with the pregnancy, is the only way to make lower class women seek to better themselves and lift themselves out of their poverty. So allow them abortion is actually to socially keep them poor.

There have been a lot of abhorrent comments and moves on these threads, but for me those three have to be the candidates for the prize for me.

    It's funded by Americans.
Don't worry - the yes vote is largely crowdfunded. This must show the groundswell for a YES vote. We don't need a handout from religious nutjobs in the US.

I'm not on any side, but you can be guaranteed that if anyone on the yes side was called a cretin, there would have been infractions handed out.

Ignoring my posts a third time I see.
Good to see you have no answers. It really shows what the NO side is about.

I stand by my comments calling you a cretin for that post, your attitude towards people with disabilities was and is cretinous.

Really? What do you see as the pros and cons of repealing the 8th then? One example of each should be easy enough.

Even Bill Clinton couldn't pull that denial off with a straight face.

And once the referendum is over the exact same people will go back to demonising single mothers at every opportunity, claiming they "pop out" kids to get benefits so they don't have to work. Oh, and they'll caricature them as "pyjama-wearing".

And they'll claim all this with a straight face.

I'm thinking of voting NO. But i'm unhappy with telling women what to do. And compromising their healthcare. And giving them less bodily autonomy than a corpse.

But I'm on the fence ;)

I was called a c**t on a link posted and nothing was done even though i reported the post. They should have just called it the pro repeal thread and made a pro life thread.Would have saved the fighting and name calling.

And you also threw a hissy fit when I quoted your posts from a different AH thread, and continued to abuse me and accuse me of many false, slanderous things. What's your point? Maybe the person wasn't wrong.

    But you're still here.

And we are back to painting yourself as a victim. If moderators have done nothing, you have been made aware several times of how to escalate a report.

Has anyone else been bombarded with 'No' ads on youtube. Every single video I watch has one before. The latest one is a woman claiming that the yes side are discriminating against to poorer in society and claims their children would be better off aborted......Its so frustrating that there are people watching this that actually believe it! I may need to not use you tube between now and May 25th as it really is putting me off my breakfast in the morning.

The amount of money behind the no campaign is just staggering and incredibly disheartening.

I’m getting less confident as the days pass, to be honest.

Me too, I started out very much thinking people will see reason, they'll see past the lies, they'll even just see logic and see how hypocritical it all is. But then a bloke at work who is highly educated said "I think the existing laws are enough" and I just thought "REALLY?" he elaborated on the point, talking about POLDPA and Savita etc, but I had to correct him so many times.
I realised this person who has such a motivation to educate himself to such a high standard generally and is able to sh1te on ad nauseam about hundreds of issues and is very politically engaged, couldn't be bothered to educate himself on this. If he can't be bothered, then is it a lot to expect of those who aren't engaged who see politics as something abstract and far removed from their daily lives?
I'm heartened by the reception I receive when I wear my repeal t-shirt, plenty of smiles and engagement from people I meet on the street, I was at a gig yesterday and the amount of people in their repeal gear was amazing, but I can't help but think about this guy and his ilk who don't care as much as I do, and don't care enough to spend time reading up and debunking the lies for themselves. I'm afraid that I live in a repeal bubble here in Dublin and that I'll end up heartbroken on the 26th.

listen buddy, there was a mod warning pulling off topic posts from another topic/thread, and i only used words you had posted yourself.
Big difference, The point is you're calling people names left right and centre. There is no need.

I know, right? I have so much more respect for No posters who at least have the courage of their convictions. At least they are prepared to put their cojones out on the table.

    I have zero respect for mealy-mouthed “on-the-fencers”.

So you think calling someone a c**t is ok ?
It's disgusting, as is calling someone a cretin.
Can people not disagree without using vile language ?

    I'm not your buddy.

You stated many falsehoods. I did not use the word "disgusting" but you said I did.

You and your ilk are disgusting. Not anything or anyone else, and i refuse to fall victim to your bating. Have a good life and I hope - despite my hatred for you and your ilk - that you or those you love never fall foul of the negative impact of the 8th.

Don't bother replying as you're on ignore now (first person i ever used that little feature for) so I won't see it.

I called a pro-life poster a prick for disregarding the way some of my partner's pregnancies ended just so he could push his own agenda and got rightfully threadbanned.

There is no biased moderating, if you are being a prick, acting a prick, carrying on like a prick on either side, then you're open to being reported and having moderator action taken against you. There should be no name calling from any side, I've reported posts from both sides insulting one another and have seen action put in place or a warning/PM here and there.

This thread should be an honest and open discussion where people do not deflect, lie or be ass-clowns in general and posters from one side of the discussion are doing their very best to make to make sure the thread is not how it is meant to be.

The thread and it's previous two incarnations were rife with trolls, re-regs and gobsh!tes in general until moderation decided to up their input and rightfully so. The pro-choice side has not had new posters join up and post stupidly offensive opinions and try pass them off as facts.

There's also been a ridiculous amount of individuals claiming to be on the fence about who to vote for but only seem to have a problem with the pro-choice campaign and it's aims and conveniently cannot answer any questions regarding the pro-life campaign and the lies/inaccuracies it's flouted about.

There is a new together for yes fundraiser for online.
It is badly needed I totally agree.
    http://donate.togetherforyes.ie/
It has also zoomed up to 23k in a very short space of time!

I have already chipped in btw :)

I've donated what I can and am donating time to get out and canvass too.

It is encouraging to see the fundraising go so well, but I'm still very worried for the actual result in a few weeks.

Thanks. Have donated to this one too.
We need the online ads to fight back against the religious US funds backing the no campaign

Thanks for that - just donated a couple of euro. We need to get the truth across through the emotive lies.
