That's a pity. What's the reason for this?

Sorry typo, instead of "not" it should be "now"

Last year we had a total of 2 dealers who would sell eGolf, now over 10, all of them have to get certified to resell electric so they seem to be getting ready for ID

The VW Ecogrant is supposed to expire at end February.

You can input your car registration on website and it tells you value. My 06 BMW 3 series petrol qualifies, you also get grants off any new VW cleaner engines apparently.

I'm undecided as my old BMW is currently driving well and costing me nothing to maintain at moment but it's our 2nd family back up car.

The ecogrant is used to move on older stock. So the newer models get less grant than one coming up towards its renewal

The eGolf from what I seen on Michael Moore is not part of the deal, which is strange, you would expect them to try and sell them off ASAP

I was in Michael Moore's Athlone a few days ago and I was surprised to see their demo Rgolf is the executive model. I'd love to buy that demo car reduced :)

It is been replaced in less than 12 months, soon to open reservations for the new model. Maybe it is in hope but I would like them to sell it off :p

POsted this on other thread so might as well update here....the start of it all :-)

Talked to dealer today, he was out in Germany recently and VW are going the direct route.

This ties into web site image they released recently with the packages. So you go online and order the car you want. So to get the first you need to buy direct from VW website, when car arrives if you are not happy then you get back deposit and dealer takes it to sell to someone else.

Now I guess you need to mark down your local dealer. The VW dealer has no idea how a trade in works but I would guess you just get a trade value on it like Hyundai offered in UK.

I think longer term VW dealers will have the car but to get it first you will order direct

The process will work great going from one PCP to another I suspect.

It is getting into the initial PCP...that would be my plan

The question is do I flog my eGolf now to prepare for my new car

No mention of a service industry, main branded make their profit in the service department it’ll be interesting to see how it handles cars which don’t need clutches , timing belts etc

My car is in for service now....120 quid for a long term service. So full check, software updates, pollen filter etc.....they also have a specialist for logging into the car and you pay for him if you want to do specific requirements

    So dealers are still required

From what the dealer said if you want to be one of the first people to buy the car then you need to order online, how a trade in works they have no idea, probably offered trade value and pick a local VW dealer, they will just take car off you and give you new ID

Longer term the dealers will all have cars in stock so you can walk in and buy....some people will still prefer to buy from local dealer instead of internet, especially to get a good trade in value

Software updates should be OTA and no need to go to garages, Tesla have demonstrated this as have Microsoft soft and every other software provider. A full check shouldn’t be needed as the software should report faults as they occur. So you are left paying 120 for a pollen filter. Which is probably an easier change in an ev than an ICE.

120 for a long term service is very little compared to an ICE.
Brakes, fly wheels, clutches , timing belts , coil packs etc all cost money and won’t be needed any more. So how will they find an alternative revenue stream.
As for trade in , dealers offer poor trade in values

Tesla are untested for mass updates so we will see

VW have confirmed ID will have OTA

Microsoft, now your having a laugh....windows update are you referring to?

Fine let’s take apple they do OTA updates of their OS en masse

With the ID doing it will they reduce the 120 cost.

I’m not sure what your point is?

Are you say VW don’t need dealers?

Or are you saying 120 for a service is expensive?

I’m saying that dealers in general are going to lose a huge % if their revenue stream. And trying to figure out how they will recoup it.
Renault tried with battery rental which has t caught in

I’m also saying 120 for a service of an EV is expensive when it’s just s pollen filter.

Its going to get very ugly for dealers alright, they will be doing hot food lol

VW must be having a laugh if they are planning only 20% electric powered in 2025

Deluded if they think 80% is going to be straight diesel or petrol

Going to be some write down on ICE assets for them, billions upon billions of investments wiped out

Most of the larger car manufacturers are cutting back on dealers, VW done it a few years back and now Nissan are doing it, they will have one large dealer covering a specific area....

Paying 120 for a full check up of car, topping up all fluids, they send me a nice little video while checking the components, software updates and pollen filter swap.....it’s a bargain.....I do it every year

Are you trying to tell me your going to buy a 60k Tesla but you won’t want to pay 120 quid for a yearly check up????

Based on 2017 sales figures VW sold 11 million cars, they haven’t released 2018 but it will be higher

So if they sell 20% of electric that will be 2.2 million electric cars

Of course year on year VW sales are going up so 20% in 2025 will probably be 3 million plus electric cars

No , I wouldn’t spend 60 k on a car. The annual depreciation would cover an villa in Spain for the summer.... that would be my priority.

When I do spend money I like to get value for it.
What are all these fluids that you talk about in an ev ? A video ? Why would I want to pay for a video? We already agreed that a software update is done OTA and shouldn’t be part of the 120.

Quick one here - yes on the face of it charging for an OTA update seems unreasonable. But to roll out an OTA takes a lot of developer time, huge QA requirements, project management, business analysis and customer feedback / marketing.

Plus the pollen filter cleaning /s

None of the above comes for free so why shouldn't the car manufacturers of the future charge for this service like they currently charge for the time of their mechanics?

    Some people will always complain.....

It doesn't matter what car I have I get it serviced every year. I never hit the mileage requirements but I get it done.

With my service from VW I get 12 month free roadside assistance thrown in.

If people can't be bothered to pay a few quid for a service I wonder what else they don't pay for on the car, might explain all the bald tires on cars in Ireland, sure who needs good tires anyway

Most insurance policies will include free roadside cover.
Donating money to a dealer is quite different than spending money in the things that keep you connected to the ground

I wouldn't classify a yearly check up of a car you have your family travelling around at high speed as "donating money"

As I said before you do what you want to do and I will do what I want to do

120 quid = safer family...money well spent in my eyes

Was it mentioned here that Neo will be officially called ID.3? And VW has reserved the names ID.1 though ID.9.
