Webby points towards the west wall and whispers "I think i could hide away there and have the advantage of surprise if things go awry".

Webby looks around the room to make sure there are no other traps that coule be set off.

No traps that Webby can see.

OOC: To try to sneak to the alcove, I'll need a dexterity check on rolz. It's not difficult, so command will be #d20-4.

Webby then pulls at the sleeve of Stufur and whispers "How do you want to do this elf?"
"You hide, I'll try talking to him"

Webby sneaks to the alcove, pulls out his bow and gets his arrow ready.

The fleet of foot halfling Webby barely makes a sound as he creeps to the alcove.

The blank stare of the cloaked, sunburned man remains in place.

Stufur prepares himself for the man to be erratic.

"Excuse me Sir? Are you alright?"

The room is silent for what seems like an eternity. Webby and Stufur feel like they have aged months.

Finally... the cloaked figure looks up and responds to Stufur:

'Aye, good to go, what's your name lad?'

    The blank stare resumes.

"Stufur Evergreen, Sir" he feels unnerved by the long silence.

"You ready to head into the portal?"

    Stufur approaches the man.

"You ready to head into the portal?"

    Stufur approaches the man.

The path is totally blocked by the cloaked figure, no way around him.

Again, another elongated silence and the figure speaks again:

    'I'm not babysitting a man'

Stufur is puzzled by the man's response.

He takes out the length of rope and attempts to tie it around the man's left foot.

The man makes no effort to stop him.

Again, another age of silence. He speaks again:

How far do ye reckon it is to Zassan?

Stufur looks down to find the rope has aged so much it has rotted and frayed away from his foot.

Webby, also puzzled by what he is witnessing, looks to the stairs to see if there is perhaps a way around the man. Maybe if he could use his grappling hook, they could bypass the man all together.

Stufur becomes concerned with the bizarre passage of time.

He opens his spell book and begins reading while tapping the stones, a mnemonic trick he learned in his youth.

"I'm going to impress this spell of rest upon my mind, would you mind the hour's wait Halfling?"

Webby judges there is nowhere to attach the grappling hook, he may even lose it to the portal. He could try this if he wished though.

The hour passes incredibly fast, compared to the next response from the cloaked figure.

Our god is plesant and just, he rewards altruism, activism and unbending loyalty.

So much time has now passed, both Webby and Stufur have regained some of their vitality from the fireball attack.

    OOC: 2HP regained each

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

Stufur stands and makes gestures with his hands aimed at the man.

    "Neparts's sudden somnolence"

OOC: Sleep aimed at the man.

He utters a final phrase as the spell moves towards him:

I don't know much about fighting, a few lessons wouldn't go astray

The spell hits the man and he provides no effort to defend himself.

Another age passes... the cloaked figure... sleeps on, standing upright

OOC: Both of you are on full health now

Eventually so much time passes that the cloaked figure drops down, lifeless, dead - to the floor.

    His body turns to dust.

The path to the portal is now free.

Webby gasps at seeing the man turn to dust.

    "What just happened?"

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

"I don't know my short friend, but I suggest we get out of here, time is jumping forward, I don't want to see us become dust like this."

    Stufur runs for the portal.

"Couldnt agree more" Webby yelps as he jumps out of the shadows, chasing after Stufur.

"Cant wait to see what is awaiting us on the other end of the next portal" he says as he gets ready to jump in.

Stufur and Webby enter the portal which begins to close.

As Webby takes a final look, he notices in disbelief that the cloaked figure is following them up the steps.

He reaches into the portal... which closes just in time. Or did it?

They tumble out into another room as a familiar face slams a door shut in front of them....

OOC: Please join jasonb/Brutha in his thread :) Times of Prayer
