Stufur and Webby come through the portal together, into a a corridor.

Immediately, they are met with a torrent of abuse so vile they think they have portalled to the far side of the arena....

    'You killed me!'
    'Vagabond'
    'I was just getting started!'
"Is this justice, what do you fight for? I did what was right. Praise Soet, the world for Soet. Soet.....MY SOET....WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?!!!"
    'I wasn't agile enough!'
    'The Dice were loaded!'

They look around and immediately spot the far wall. It is lined with thousands of stone heads jutting out from it - each screaming in unison at Webby and Stufur.

    The passage leads west.

    Stufur feels quite unnerved.

"Halfling, let us venture down this passage, your name"

He tires to ignore the stone heads.

One of the faces is a little louder than most, and shouts directly at Stufur:

"If I can't be buried with my people, at least bury me here with my love. Bury me with Dunc....."

'Are you not seeing what I am seeing? They are talking stones, and they are talking to US?!'

Webby turns to the stone heads, now curious, to see if they pose any immediate danger.

'Oh and its Webby, by the way, Webby Frothfist. Son of Falik Frothfist. And you, elf, do you have a name?'

Webby turns to the stone heads, now curious, to see if they pose any immediate danger.

A stone face simply shouts at him:

"ha, debt collectors never got me, I WIN!"

    "It's Stufur, Stufur Evergreen, I..."

The latest stonehead catches his attention, he creeps toward it.

"What did you say stone being?"

    The stone head speaks again:

    "Err, careful here, 'tis dangerous"

The voice is incredibly familiar to Stufur.

"Have you not learned to take caution after the last time, ELF?!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 468 ✭✭Nebelwerfer

Webby pulls out his spyglass "'There are safer ways to do this".

Webby pulls out his spyglass "'There are safer ways to do this".

Peering into the spyglass, the stone face looks huge. It almost looks at Webby as it speaks again:

"Thats what 167 years of practice gets ya!"

He also notices a little gleam behind the face.

Webby replies "The years have not been kind to you my friend..".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

    Stufur hesitates.

    "Uncle Saeros? Is that you?"

"I dont have a good feeling about this Elf..."

Webby looks around to see if he can find anything useful for what surely will be a long and weary road ahead.

"We should not be hanging around for too long..."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

Stufur shakes his head, is it reading his memories? "Got to keep it together" he thinks.

"Come on Halfling, let's take the passage."

    He heads West.

Webby looks around to see if he can find anything useful for what surely will be a long and weary road ahead.

Webby finds nothing further of note in the corridor. The gleam catches his eye again though as the face yet again speaks:

"I'll call us friends over a glass of wine".

    He heads West.

Stufur comes to the end of the passageway, and it leads into a room.

The faces continue to scream at Webby behind him.

The room is of average side, non-descript features save for a statue of a nude dwarf to the north. It is such perfection that it brings a small tear to the eye of the little elf.

    OOC: Think this, but nude

A door lies to the west also.

Webby shakes his head and turns to Stufur "Wait for me elf, my legs are somewhat shorter" and scuttles after him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 673 ✭✭✭The Dungeon Master

As Webby enters the room, catching up with Stufur, the shouting faces grow silent.

"Now is not the time to admire the dwarven stature elf, we should find a way forward".

    Webby starts inspecting the walls.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

Stufur approaches the statue and looks at it for inscriptions in any language he understands.
"Now is not the time to admire the dwarven stature elf, we should find a way forward".
"Perhaps there is some secret concealed within this statue"

He is surprised at the statue's physique, he considered dwarves smaller than elves in all respects, he was obviously mistaken.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 673 ✭✭✭The Dungeon Master

    Webby starts inspecting the walls.

Nothing of note on the south, east or west walls.

A closer inspection of the north wall reveals a small gap between the statue and the wall.

No inscriptions, but there appears to be something off about his beard. A... slight gap between the area at his chin and the longer part of the stone.

Stufur pulls at the beard, hoping against hope he doesn't activate something too nasty.

Both Stufur and Webby hear a loud click, and the dwarven statue begins to slide to the right....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 673 ✭✭✭The Dungeon Master

The statue locks in place in its new position. An alcove is revealed behind the statue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

Stufur looks into the alcove without budging from his current position.

Within the alcove a shortbow and a quiver with 5 arrows hangs from the wall.

There is also a small chest on the back wall of the alcove.

"Oooh treasures, how nice... I suppose trinkets never go a miss, especially when it could potentially save our lives".

    Webby inspects the shortbow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

After much deliberation Stufur decides to stay away from the alcove and continues through the door to the West, testing the door and floor for traps.

"Oooh treasures, how nice... I suppose trinkets never go a miss, especially when it could potentially save our lives".

    Webby inspects the shortbow.

Elven in creation, it's a finely carved bow. The arrows are standard for a bow of its size.

Door opens outwards into another corridor which leads north.

Finely designed mosaic tiles line the floors and walls in pretty patterns.

    No traps he can see.

Webby grabs the bow and its arrows and chases after Stufur.

"Not even a little tempted?" he mutters as he tries to catch up to the elf.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

Stufur speaks over his shoulder to Webby.

"I'm only alright with bows and that chest is best dealt with by an experienced locksmith.

Well this corridor looks pleasant. Beautiful in fact.

    Want to go first?"

"a Halfling is not suited as a front, we are best hiding behind things instead... but, if you insist... not much to hide behind anyway" Webby mutters as he leads ahead of Stufur.

Webby cautiously proceeds down the corridor.

OOC : How cautiously? Drop and gimme 20! A D20 that is :

OOC : Nebelwerfer rolled a natural 20 on dex roll

    *Click*

OOC : Fourier, roll for Dex please.

    OOC : Stufur rolled a 5
As his left foot comes down Webby realises something's out of place but it's too late, he's committed his full weight to that leg. A faint cry escapes his lips. There's a sickening crunch as his boot crushes the beetle, the pressure forcing it's innards out in a sudden gush.

Stufur instinctively leans back as the gore streaks past him.

Leaning over to examine the bottom of his viscera-encrusted boot, Webby notices one of the tiles on the floor is out of place - the design is the wrong way around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 673 ✭✭✭The Dungeon Master

OOC : ok, finishing up there for tonight!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 468 ✭✭Nebelwerfer

Shivvers run down Webby's spine as he takes off his boot and wipes the beetle remnants onto the wall.

"I hope your wits are as good as your reflexes elf, probably best if you lead the way from now on... I am more useful when not stepping into or onto things."

Webby turns back to the tile and inspects to see whether there is purpose to the file facing backwards.

    "Stufur, come look at this.."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

"Well it looks like the design is reversed....hmmm, hold on"

Stufur takes out his longsword and attempts to pry the mosaic tile from the floor.

    Ook
    Strengths check please

OOC: 19! 1E why hast thou forsaken me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 673 ✭✭✭The Dungeon Master

OOC: 19 rolled. For the edition we are playing, Stats Rolls need to be equal to or under the appropriate stat. In Stufur's case as we tested Strength, he needed a 13 or less to pass. Saving Throws, which we will cover when they come up, need to be OVER or equal to the number on your stats sheet.

The tile is stuck fast and the sword is unable to budge it. The sword though, seems to slightly move the tile and area beneath. Stufur can see it is a pressure pad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

Stufur avoids this tile and begins to move incredibly slowly across the tiled floor, moving directly in a straight line North along one column of tiles. He checks each tile as he moves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 673 ✭✭✭The Dungeon Master

Most of the other tiles appear normal, but there is a central area towards the end of the corridor with a similar pattern to the one he previously examined.

A door lies beyond them, about 4 feet from these.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

"Hmm, are the tiles a trap or part of some mechanism" Stufur wonders.

He returns to Webby, along the same path.

"Say, you still have some of those rocks?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 468 ✭✭Nebelwerfer

Webby goes through his bag and his pockets.

"I think I should still have some, why, what are you thinking?".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

"We try triggering the pressure pads from a distance?"
