I had thought about injectors too. Thankfully for her there are only 4 of them.

Injectors can get worse and worse without throwing any code at all. Then all of a sudden they'll through one but up to that point the ECU won't have any faults stored at all despite how bad they might be.

I had originally thought DMF due to the known issues, none of which involve injectors.

DMF change on one of these should be about €1,200 I would think for parts and labour. Can anyone give any idea how right or wrong I am?

Injectors will generally begin to tick and leak before they fail, and you'd notice a change in fuel consumption too.

Re the DMF that sounds about right, would be putting in a new clutch kit while you're at it too.

It wouldn't be an engine mount gone would it, that once under load settles down?

It's an auto box so clutch kit not needed. She only bought it 2 days ago so wouldn't notice a change in consumption.

Could be an engine mount. Will ask her to get her mechanic to give it a look over.

Does it actually have a DMF? I don't think that car does as the torque converter does away with the need for a DMF. Only the manuals have a DMF to my knowledge. At least that's my understanding.

If RealOEM is to be believed then yes it does have a DMF.

I would have thought it was a flexplate used on an auto rather than a flywheel. I'm no expert but I've never heard of flywheel failures on those automatics.

DMF on an automatic. Don't be daft :pac: It has a flex plate

Didn't realise it was an auto, it won't have a DMF then.

I'd be guessing engine mount possibly but that's just a wild guess based on symptoms.

I mean, "daft" depends on your pov to be fair. I'm sure it's not common knowledge what repmobiles have DMF and what don't.

If its a dual clutch auto it will have a DMF. A standard torque converter doesn't. No idea what the 2008 520d were MM sorry.

Reckon they were standard TC's alright, hopefully no DMF anyway, they're hideously expensive.

Nope, bought from Ultimate Cars in Dublin.

The owner of UC is a friend of my boss and it was his partner who bought it. He will stand by it but I'm just doing some research to see what the issue might be.

I'd just give it back and let them sort it tbh.

If it's an auto then it's a ZF unit of the traditional torque converter variety so it won't have a DMF. Only BMWs with double clutch gearboxes are ///M models over the past 10 years (X series and latest M5 excluded) , the Z4 sDrive35is and a few of the brand new cars based on the UKL platform (the wrong wheel drive one that's also used by Mini).

That's pretty bad FN, hopefully insurance sorts it.

My 325 has developed an interesting problem, rev it to 4k+ and it misfires and goes into reduced power. Not sure if a cylinder is going offline entirely. Reckon its injector problems, this'll be fun. Oh, and I've an NCT on Tuesday :pac:

Hopefully they don't rev it that high and it sneaks through.

Engine behaved like a saint, went back into limp home mode on the way home from the test :D

Failed on rear shocks, in to get it all fixed today.

You don't have INPA to check the injectors? If it's an engine mount you should be able to see the engine wobble on startup or revving in neutral

Nope, don't have it. Revving in neutral smooths it out big time and stops the vibration. The seller is saying that it's being caused by a missing vibration damper on the exhaust. First I ever heard of such a thing!

Trying to sort it here first before going back to Dublin.

Sounds like the seller is taking the mick tbh, how can he know without having seen it?

Dublin isn't a million miles away contrary to some beliefs. :)

No, it isn't injectors, its much worse than that. HPFP is gone.

vibration damper will be on the crankshaft or some prop shafts

I'm trying to figure out how many euphemisms you've managed to stuff in to that one sentence. :pac:

Just heads up to some nerdy petrol heads. Forza Horizon 4 is out on xbox one now and its fantastic. Its based in Britain this time around.

Doing most of my races in Alfa Giulia quadrifoglio and I am in love with that thing. Its a shame cheapest petrol version is 50k ish in Ireland. :(
Come on Alfa! Do your thing of losing more then half of your value in first two years. :)
