what did she do, drive off when plugged in?
Close, drove the Leaf off while the ID.4 was plugged in, caught the cable under the front bumper and pulled the charger off the wall

the EO mini, uses a off the shelf enclosure, Shouldnt be too hard to fix.

I'd say you'd be lucky if all thats damaged is the plastic enclosure.

It would take a fair strain to pull it off the wall and the cable and charge port took all that strain.

I know you said its still working but the cable has to be strained after that.

It was pulled sideways, so I'd say the port on the charger would have taken the brunt of the force. I'd say it was the leverage of the plug sticking out the front that gave it enough force to pull the charger off the wall

There's 4 screws that held it on the wall, 2 ripped out of the enclosure cracking the casing and 2 are still there

Luckily with the EO the electronics attach to the front of the charger, so they're out of harm's way

However I'd be concerned about water getting into the crack on the back of it over time

To be clear, I won't be selling it after replacing it, I couldn't take money for damaged goods in good conscience

However I may give it away for free if anyone wants to have a go at repairing it

Hi, I'd be interested in it, sounds like it would be salvageable.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

I'll keep you posted, I need to find a suitable adaptor for the Leaf to connect to a Type 2 Zappi

Could you get some epoxy and seal up the cracks?

Yeah I was thinking that after I posted it

Alternatively it could probably be used in a garage without any issues

If you contact eo direct and explain they might send you out the casing.

    Which is a better charger.
Eo mini or the Eo mini pro 2 ?

I saw something like that on adverts, not sure if it's available.

Ye, it would be fine indoors, or seal it with good quality sealant on the cracks and all around where it meets the wall.

We want to install solar next year. We also have an air source heat pump and an induction hub. And I need to be able to schedule charging reliably. Can the others manage all that?

I have sync ev which has dynamic load management, with optional ct clamp for protection of main fuse. Scheduled charging which works for the id3, built in earthing, rfid card, dc leakage,
Solar will be added this month with app update. Eo mini pro can do the same agin with ct clamp.

Got my EO Mini Pro installed yesterday. Ordered with Electric Ireland but you deal with KN Networks from then. Received two phone calls, as well as an email, in advance to confirm the details of the visit and screen for Covid issues. The installed was a lovely guy and did a nice, neat job. He was able to use the meter box, rather than having to go through the wall and into the main fuse board. Said that change only came in two weeks ago. Ideal!

Gave it a little test charge last night as the car was fully charged when I picked it up. Thanks for the advice.

    Nice neat job.
That regulation was clarified in the March Safe Electric newsletter.
Get yourself a little hook to hang the excess cable from.

Yeah, I thought one might have been provided when I went for the tethered version but seemingly not. I'll have to figure something out.

Cheap can of white spray paint currently in Lidl/Aldi and I’d spray the isolator switch totally white, but that’s just me...

Has anyone ever heard of an EV charger causing false alarms from smoke detectors?

We've had an EO Mini for s few years which charges the Leaf without issues.

However, I've noticed that since I got the ID.4, the smoke alarms seem to go off at some point while it's charging

To be clear, it's a false alarm, there's no fire or smoke and every time I've checked the charger and fuse panel and they aren't overheating. Also, the alarm that goes off is in the hallway, nowhere near either the charger or the fuse panel

The only major difference is that the ID.4 charges at 32A while the Leaf charges at 16A. But the cables and fuses are all rated for that, so it shouldn't be a problem

My theory is that between the charger and the heat pump, the house is drawing a lot of current. Not enough to trip fuses but I'm wondering will it cause a voltage drop for a moment which might be interfering with the fire alarms?

It's quite possible it's all a coincidence, and the fire alarm is just busted, but my worry is that if I replace it now the problem won't go away

Have you narrowed it down to one particular detector or is it them all?

Probably just needs a new battery. Did you check that?

Seems to be the hallway one every time, they're interlinked so when they go off I have to turn the one off that detected smoke

As I said, it's most likely that the smoke alarm has gone bad. The problem is that if I replace it I have to replace them all because they're linked

Before I spend that money I'd like to try and narrow down the problem first

Have you load balancing setup on the charger? Check out screenshot below.

No load balancing, my charger doesn't have that yet

I saw the same thing, around the time it happened last night, the charger, heat pump and probably the dishwasher were on, which was probably pushing the house supply closer to the limit

The heat pump in particular would have some inductive loads, so I guess it could cause some voltage spiking when switching on and off

You could test the theory with the heat pump off and then back on while charging.

Remove the one in the hall and see if it still happens. Or swap it with one from another room.

The interlinking is just the connected wiring. You can replace one. You may have to disconnect the connector and wire the 2 cables into the connector of the new detector though.

I had to do this at home as my landing one was faulty and they had stopped making them. The interlinked system will still work as it’s just a signal wire.

That's good to know, I had assumed the signalling was proprietary between vendors, didn't realise it was so simplistic

I might swap it with the living room one and run some tests during the week. Or leave it in battery mode for the short term as it won't set off the other alarms then

I'll probably end up replacing the hallway alarm. Was speaking to the neighbours and they've also had issues with false alarms. All of the alarms were installed by the builder and are the same brand

Anyone bought / or used the Irish Verde Ev charger? It’s available for €299 + VAT. I’d like to buy an Irish one preferably, as long as it runs ok..
    Thanks
