Just Back home from the Dublin Horse Show at the RDS. Place was rammed. Spent a fortune on tack for the horses and clothing.
Hats off to the groundsmen and team of workers who transform the surface into a superb Rugby pitch. To be honest it's nothing short of miraculous.
We parked at the Wanderers pitch. 15 euro a car. Handy walk to the RDS.

I heard that the horse show makes the rds about 3 times what Leinster rugby does... Could be bull****, but it is a serious week of spending.

An adult entry ticket is just short of 30e, easy to see how they could make a pile of moola from it.

Tyrone have a lot of momentum and, prior to the weekend, I'd have been a little apprehensive about them. But Monaghan had more freedom against them than I anticipated. Tyrone went well but they were minutes from losing. Not to be deliberately obnoxious but the only way Dublin don't win 4 in a row is if they fail to perform on the day to their abilities.

To beat Dublin in Croke Park, Tyrone are going to need at least 20+ points on the board and I don't see them achieving that without leaving themselves wide open for Dublin's forwards to blitz them.

But I don't think there's another county that could play Dublin and actually encourage some neutrals to support Dublin on the day.

Anyone used the preclearance at Dublin airport? How long does it usually take to get through?

Completely depends on time of day. I've been through in minutes and I've been there an hour

Is there any way of knowing the wait time once you’re in the airport without actually going through? As far as I remember there’s only one place to eat/sit after preclearance so I’d rather not go through until I have to.

Mostly by looking at the queue I'd say. If it's out to the stairs then it's on the longer side.

Reckon the dubs are pretty unstoppable tbh. They don't make mistakes, their shooting accuracy is in the 80%'s and they seem to always score goals.
I'm not even bothered to look for a ticket (will probably be on here begging next week).

I'd say you could get a ticket the week of the match no bother if you looked.

54k at the Dublin vs Galway match. Dublin have been in a semi final every year since 2009 and never had less than 80k in attendance. People will want to be there on final day but the appetite is dropping like a stone.

I'd say it will be easier to get a ticket to this one than it would be if they were going for the 5 in a row.

Just inadvertently sent an email to my work, with details of a job I’m going to apply for. Meant to send it to my personal email but instead typed the work email, which is a central email address that everyone in the company including my boss uses. The word whoops comes to mind :o:eek:

They haven’t said anything yet, will have to wait and see. I deleted it when a co-worker pointed it out to me, but I’d say they still saw it. Might be leverage if I look for a pay rise :pac: or could be a P45 who knows.

Drumpf tweets about the Boston Globe, the usual FAKE NEWS stuff.

Boston Globe then receives a bomb threat.

    Good grief.

I'd say it ended very well. Do you think the people who were influenced by the initial Fox News broadcast will ever lay eyes on the rebuke?

There is more than enough information available from credible Danish sources that anyone with an inkling of curiosity could have discovered the reality of the situation for themselves. The lack of basic intellectual curiosity is why those videos are so influential in the first place.

It's absurdly vindictive that a 'news' station would belittle social healthcare, social education and social welfare on behalf of a political movement. It's more absurd again that they get away with such easily refutable lies.

    America needs an urgent reset.

    .

And as you say, it ended well for them. It doesn't matter a jot that a politician in Denmark refuted all of the points. The Fox piece will have far more influence on those that see it than it will on the tiny percentage of people who see the response.

Those who watched it will have their positions solidified on socialism. They don't want to or see the need to research this sort of stuff when Fox is telling them how it is. Mission completely accomplished for Fox. The response a tiny blip that won't even register outside left leaning, internet communities.

In the past 15 years, attention spans and the desire for information have dropped through the floor. People want information in bite size, easily digestible snippets which speaks to them in simple terms. Fox and their counterparts deliver this in spades. Few want to read the NYT or WaPo in depth analysis.

The alt-right movement is off the wall but a publication like the NYT did not help themselves with their hiring of Sarah Jeong and public stance defending her. The two sides have become so utterly polarised at this point that the middle ground is diminishing more and more each year.

The discourse over there is frightening.

    LET'S LAUGH AT LIBERALS
    CONSERVATIVES ARE EVIL

As you say, empty soundbites. It's embarrassing and tiresome.

Yeah agreed, I'm loathe to say 'both sides are bad' because even though both are quite openly corrupt and partisan, it's very apparent that Republicans are teetering on a serious authoritarian problem which has global implications.

Regardless of any of that though - it's amazing to me that Trump has support. Regardless of his politics he's an utter as$hole of monolithic proportions. How anyone could listen to him or read his tweets and think 'yeah, this is our guy' is quite amazing. I'm sure many conservatives hate him and are embarrassed by him but there has to be many, many millions who see in him a positive reflection of themselves.

I'm also personally still in a state of somewhat disbelief that a country I've visited many times, have lived in and considered progressive are putting children, infants, toddlers and the disabled into detention facilities. How that isn't the scandal of a generation in America is beyond me. Children for f*cks sake, I can't get over it.

    .

Money in their pockets and the economy. In the bigger picture, nothing else matters to a large chunk of their population. Nothing. It's as simple as that.
