that's my problem lads. I've changed the time zone to GMT but the time and date are not changing

    Restart from the menu

I restarted the box again but it made no difference and it's gone back to the original factory settings again.
I have to leave it now as I'm going out for a while. I might try again later.
Thanks for the help so far.

What exactly do you mean by restart. Are you using the menu to reboot enigma or just killing the power? If you are, don't do it that way.

I got the time and date sorted by connecting the box to the internet. I've set up cross epg and that all seems to be there but if I select any channel nothing comes up on the screen

Did you do a download of crossepg? This saves the EPG data to your hard drive.

Yeah I downloaded it and it saved on my usb. Now if I select anything from the EPG the channel name comes up on screen but no picture

Have you both satellite tuners connected and a signal on both tuners?

Did you set your Saorview region in Autobouquetmaker and scan for Saorview channels? It's detailed in my image guide post.

Thanks THHB, I found it last night. I set my region to Spur Hill in Cork, it's only a couple of miles away but had no luck. I'll try it again this evening.
Also the sound is very low on all the freeview channels what do I need to change to adjust this?

Did you check the Saorview coverage checker see what mast you should use
    https://www.saorview.ie/en/get/coverage

For sound you could try turning on ac3 and aac downmix on in menu -> setup -> audio -> basic settings. I use a receiver so don't need to downmix to stereo

The coverage checker indicates Spur Hill so I'll have another go when I get home later.

Just reading through some of the previous posts again and I'm wondering is it better to put the Cross EPG on the internal hard drive and then keep the USB key solely for picons?

I have it that way, I just use the usb for picons and backups

I decided to start from scratch with a new OpenATV image. I downloaded version 6.2 from here.

So far, so good - everything now working ok. The mobile network is still not stable, so I'm using an external wireless dongle. I can now set a startup channel using menu from the vertical EPG. That setting had simply disappeared from my last image.

I did have a bit of a fright as CrossEPG doesn't appear to be available for this image. However, it appears to have similar functionality built in. I deleted the epg.dat, confirmed that the EPG list was empty, and it repopulated it on a full reboot.

Got all my Saorview channels now and full EPG working.
Favourites all sorted and even had a quick training session with my good woman and she loves it.

I sorted the sound as well ( I won't say how but I said you're some fecking clown Alfie when I realised what I'd been doing)

Only issue now is the picons. I've copied the file to my usb but when I put it in the box I get a message saying "no recognisable files"

The picon folder name needs to be picon not picons

    “The file” ??

Picons would have been downloaded in a zip file.
    You need to unzip this.
That should give you a folder called “Picon” with a lot of .png files in it.
Transfer this folder and all its contents.

Before transferring you may want to grab the 3 new picons for the virgin media channels that were posted earlier in this thread and add them to the folder.

Once the Picon folder is in place restart the box.
They wont show in the guide until you restart.

Silly question. How do you do a series link recording?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 587 ✭✭✭JB81

Just wondering does anyone know if there is a function to check what the conflicts are when recording. I set some recordings but there are conflicts but i didn't have time to read them when the information came up.
    Thanks
    Jb

It can vary depending on the box setup but you are looking for the "autotimer" function. Usually when you have the EPG open and the show you want selected, press and hold GREEN for a few seconds. A different dialogue will pop up to set the autotimer. In most cases the default settings are OK so you just hit GREEN again to save it.
Series linking is based on keywords from the title. Say for example you like the "Bake Off" shows. With a bit of clever editing you could set a link to record both the main show and the "Extra Slice" show using the one autotimer, Turn off or edit the channel selection would also include the older shows on Really or Home or whatever.
It's a very powerful function if you need it to be, but the basics also work fine.

I find for the usb with picons it's better to initialise the usb key using the box. This will format it in a Linux format. Then copy the picon folder to the box using FileZilla

Do I transfer the folder to the usb on my laptop and then put it into the box?
I have been doing this but the message that comes up is something like "no readable files on this device"

If you have picons on the system hard drive then you need to connect to the box over your home network and copy the files to the picon folder.

You can see the hard drive in windows explorer under network if you have samba enabled on the Tiviar

To enable samba ....Menu>Setup>System ( scroll down, its the last option ) >Network>Cifs/Samba> enable in here.

In windows explorer under network you should see a TIVIARAPLUS
double click on this , you may have to enter your access details for the box.
You will see two folders, harddisk and root
    Open harddisk
You should see a picon folder
Open this and copy the files into it.

When that is complete, restart the Tiviar box.
    Menu>standby/restart

Picons for the new channels should be in place.

You can also do this through filezilla if you prefer.

Some have their picon folder on a USB stick instead, if so, then the instructions are similar , just copy to the USB stick folder instead.
Dont forget to restart the box.

I have tried this but I don't have a picon folder on my HDD

Do what I said in the post above. Go into storage settings and initialise the usb device then copy the picons across over your network to /media/usb/picon using FileZilla

Yes and in this you put all the individual picon files

    @thhb
Is there a specific reason you use the USB rather than the HDD for picons?
