It does not have internal WLAN, WOS supply a usb wi fi dongle. When you connect the dongle, I use the front usb, the box detects it automatically and then you go menu, set up , system, network, device setup.

I opened mine when I got it, just to check the correct sized hard drive was installed.
I didnt order the USB wi fi dongle because I hard wire everything to the network where possible.

I saw nowhere inside the box for an internal wlan module.

You sure, lots of boxes have an internal usb

    Yes.
    No internal usb.
Wi fi dongle goes into an external USB port.
Original manual setup for wi fi confirms it.

Also there are internal pics on this page

    Connected now.

What is the name of the wireless driver for this box?

The wireless driver depends on the usb wifi stick used.

You need to buy a Ralink Rt5370 wifi usb device.

They are less than a fiver. They work with nearly all e2 and non e2 boxes.

They look like this (stay away from the ones with the big red N on them as they burn out quickly).

    Ralink-rt5370-Driver-802-11-n-Wireless.jpg_350x350.jpg

Most E2 boxes dont have built in wifi (some of the latest edisions do)

The one on page 1 is an old version. This is the latest (I've not done one in a while)

Oh thank you I must get one. I have a WiFi dongle with an air mouse I use for my android box but I doubt it will pair outside of the remote must see out of sheer curiosity

A small thing, does anyone know the exact driver number from the plugin section for this?

    https://www.freetv.ie/usb-dvb-t2-tuner/

I have that but it's obviously not working since the reflash and my backup was made before I got it

Or if I download the drivers package off the site which folder can I FTP to and place the drivers in

On most images like openvix its downloaded from plugins feed -drivers--select correct one to use and think reboot your box for it to be setup from there.

That USB Wifi device you linked to is an Astrometa (Realtek RTL2832). The driver link in plugins is

    enigma2-plugin-drivers-dvb-usb-rtl2832

Thank you all very much :)

Just be aware that there have been clones and different revisions of these usb dvb-t devices which explains why I have seen reports as some working and others not.

Have a read (there is one with a Sony demod chip - there the ones you dont want).

In most cases you only know by dismantling them

I'm using a slightly modified version of The High Horse Brigade's image. I've got two issues which someone might be able to solve:

    1. The TV/Radio button wont allow me switch to radio. I can get the radio channels using the WebIf. I can then see the full radio EPG via the remote RPG button and change channels via the remote.

    2. I set a default startup channel I want to change, but cant find where I did this.

Btw, the network dongle (300Mbs/World of Sat), is still freezing. I unplugged it and did a hard reset, then plugged it in again. The idea was to force the selection of the correct driver. This did appear to help, but streaming is still problematic.

    All thoughts/suggestions welcome.

    Hi,

I had posted previously about been distraught at having a dead Tiviar purchase from WOS. Well WOS replaced the box and I have it running with THHB's image and am well pleased with the result. The box is very nippy (compared to my older AA2) and much easier to navigate without any delays. Plus been able to playback from other networked devices is great (too slow previously).

I just wanted to say thanks THHB for his work on the image and to STB for some helpful debug comments.

My box was acting a bit strange this evening. Normally where the logos for channels appears I was getting a logo that looked like a triangle of circles like racked snooker balls with writing in a circle around them. I did a re-boot and it reverted to an awful default skin. I did a restore from backup which seems to have sorted things but now I've to tweak a few things that I changed since the last backup. Not the end of the world but a bit strange and inconvenient.

You also have the option (recommended) to just back up your settings rather than a full backup. This will remember things like bouquets and timers etc and only takes about 10 seconds to do. Use the BLUE button

Hello all, I have been reading this thread with interest and having received my Tiviar yesterday would like some help to set it up in baby steps if possible :-)

Do I just extract THHB's image and copy it all to the USB key and then flash the box?
Can the picons be put on the same key at the same time or should they be done seperately?

any help will be greatly appreciated

Alfie go to post 12 on this thread, and then if you are stuck come back. If you look along your post its #869. The whole thread is filled with instuctions but get box flashed first.

Thanks swoofer. I think the most recent update is in post #126. Like I said it's baby steps so do I download the back up, extract it,copy it to my USB and use that to flash the box as the first step?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,825 ✭✭✭swoofer

yes, just follow instructions, download the guide as well. And go slow.

ok I seem to have flashed the box ok but the time and date are April 15th and time is 15.40. I can't seem to change it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,825 ✭✭✭swoofer

@NewClareman, I dont know why you modded the image but for the tvradio try this, press tv/radio, press again and radio list should appear, select say bbc radio 5, press ok. to get back press tv button or the fav button.

For channel it depends what you have at top of favourites, say you put saorview as first then press 1 will take you to rte 1.

for wi fi get a good dongle, and wi fi is tricky depends on lots of things, distance, location, router, bb speed and so on. use the front usb slot, I have a few dongles and best by a mile is Vu + wireless and box finds driver instantly. amazon.

you are going to have fun but for this one go menu, setup, arrow up and click on system, when you change time it should change date as well. I'm setting this up for an elderly friend so learning as well.

a tip if you are not sure press exit KEY.

Time should be on auto. The box should get it from the Satellite transponder but you can change it to NTP (network time protocol) if you have an internet connection in menu -> setup -> system -> time setting

I restarted the box but I hadn't saved after flashing it so now I'm flashing again. How do I save?
In the time settings I was selecting GMT/Dublin etc but it didn't change the time.
I haven't even thought about connecting it to the internet yet :-)

What? You don't need to flash again.
To save in the time settings menu press green.

The time doesn't change for me so I tried restarting the box but I hadn't saved after the first flash I did so it went back to factory setting. I have flashed it again and I'm now waiting for the back up to finish.

    Time settings are found

    Set up

    Set the time zone there.

Try turning off the system and back on again, see if that works.
