I am using the wireless dongle from WoS. I can see the Samba share, all right. However, when I try and transfer large files, or stream via the WebIf, I lose the connection. I can see from the router that it has disconnected, and my only option appears to be a network reboot. Any thoughts - I don’t have the background to troubleshoot this?

Run a continuous point to the box for a time see is it keeping connection or dropping.
    ping <ipofbox> -t

That is working grand. I can’t use power line extenders as the power to the router is over 13amp flex which doesn’t give a good signal.

FTP into usr/share/enigma2 and delete the directory with the name of the skin that is causing the problem.

If your trying to usb flash make sure usb is formatted fat32 and extracted image is sent to box and only that usb is inserted into box while powered off,any buttons need pressing to prompt the flash to start?
Some cheaper usb sticks are not seen so try a better one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,187 ✭✭✭kindalen

Formtted usb stick on a chromebook, so assume its fat32. Will try another usb drive.

    Thanks.

Tried another usb drive and still no joy. Must be doing something silly.

Am in trouble here lads. Can't FTP wirelessly as I don't have the settings saved in FileZilla from last time

Can I connect using a wired connection? Would it be via USB or ethernet?

I also tried flashing via USB and it's not detected. It's the only USB installed and have tried formatting to fat32 couple times and no luck. The only thing is it's a Scandisk 16GB so maybe too big but haven't any other keys around

You can FTP from any other device connected to the same network, doesn't matter if it's wired or wireless

There's no network connected I no longer has the same router. I would have used a WiFi hotspot from my phone but I haven't set it up and with the box stuck on the Openvix boot I can't get into the setting on the box to connect to the WiFi hotspot

Is there anyway to direct connect a laptop to the box and force login that way?

Plug the box in using Ethernet it should automatically get an IP without any setting up. You'll need to check the router to food out what IP it gets

    Ok little movement here.

Got a friend's USB and it's detected and prompts press power button to flash

But it's flashing the files and the box doesn't reboot and turn on just the press power button request comes up again

    Any idea?

Small Q, to connect it to a new WiFi network, is there any tutorial out there? Having trouble remembering

Edit: hmmm WiFi option doesn't seem to be there would it be an issue with teh latest image which is the one I flashed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,966 ✭✭✭greasepalm

i presume box is been setup for wifi,so it will need your router id and password to allow access to your network.
Its the same if a m8 brought over his laptop he can scan your wifi but needs access code to connect.

Is it a usb wireless adapter? You most likely need the driver for the wireless, it will not be included in a default image. You'll have to plug the box in using Ethernet to download the driver in plugins.

It's a WiFi hotspot of my phone

Could I download the WiFi driver and flash it? The box doesn't detect any WiFi network at all in fact there isn't any options to scan WiFi on the network setup wizard

I might try flashing an older image

You are not understanding. The wireless on the box will not work until you install the wireless driver. To install the wireless driver you're going to need to bring it somewhere you can plug it in using Ethernet and download it, it's available to download in the plugins download section

Yes sorry I'm just coming across wrong

If I connect my tiviar to the laptop via ethernet

Then tether the laptop on my phone that should work shouldn't it

It could if you know how to setup internet connection sharing on whatever operating system is on your laptop. I'm not a Windows user so am of little help, Google is your friend.

Ok moving in teh right direction

Box connected via ethernet to laptop and then tethered to 4G phone

    Network Test

    LAN Adapter is good

    Local is good

    DHCP is good

IP address and nameserver are unconfirmed tho

You need to setup connection sharing on the laptop so it passes traffic to the box. All those tests confirm is that the network port is up.

What is the name of the wireless driver for this box?

That I don't know. I'll have to have a Google

Is it a plug in usb adapter? The full specs for this box don't list it as having internal wireless. Did you add it as an extra? It could be plugged into a usb port inside the box

You should open it and have a peep because you'll be waiting till Monday for world of satellite to get back to you. If you get the model no it should be easy to find out what chipset it has. It would have been opened by them anyway to fit the hard drive
