Would ulster take Sean Dougall who is doing well with Pau or Conor Gilsenan from the sinking London Irish ship?

Glad we didn't sign another injured player. Means it's McPhillips for rest of season

Is there a radio station covering the match today? Thanks in advance.

Is there a radio station covering the match today? Thanks in advance.

It's on BBC Radio 5 Live (they've no Premier League coverage today for some reason) and I'm sure it will be on BBC Radio Ulster.

Not sure how you access those if you're down South but I'm sure you can.

    Talk about a damp squib

    Really disappointing

We were murdered at the breakdown.

While I don't agree with abuse of Kiss, I do think Ulster now need to begin the search for a replacement with new ideas.

Ulster offered nothing today at all. I dont even know what we were trying to do out there. Give it to McCloskey and hope for the best was our only obvious tactic.

A very flat performance today. Not good enough given what was at stake.

It was yet another absolutely pathetic Ulster performance.

I know realism is rare to find in here, but you have to credit wasps for actually playing pretty decent rugby considering the conditions.

    It was vile out there.

Ulster were well beaten on the day by a team who really performed on the day.

Ulster's pack isn't good enough to go away to a team like Wasps and hope to win without a plan B that requires better backs than they currently have.

Wasps did play well. Congrats to them, in fact given the conditions they played very well.

But if your comment about lack of realism is aimed at me (and I can only assume it is given I was the only one to comment on the match on this thread) I can only assume you havent read the rest of the thread given I was about the only Ulster poster prepared to give Kiss a chance and the benefit of the doubt.

But I'm afraid he has run out of chances.

It's not, it's at the shrill teenage screechers that pop up here all the time.

You are definitely not one of those I don't think!

at least we have been saved the humiliation of a thumping in the last 8

Losing isn’t the biggest issue, it was how we lost.

Out with a whimper, domimated in every part of the game. Complete mince.

Not true. To have that many turnovers on your own ruck ball (over ten imo) you have to be playing terribly

It's grand, Kiss wasn't targeting this as a 'must win'

Missed this due to an afternoon in A+E (nothing major thank god).

Didn't have faith in Ulster to win never mind get a bonus points. Fùcking Saracens sneak through though....it's like they're always thereabouts to shìt on our parade.

We keep saying next year but we're running out of excuses at this stage.

Until Ulster have a decent pack, this is going to be the reality. You can win games without a pack, but you just can't sustain a campaign.

Coaching staff have to take some blame for the manner in which they lost.

They just looked disinterested and this the most important point - they looked afraid of contact. They coughed up far too many turnovers as well

Didn't see the game. If the above is the case did Best not lose it with some of his team mates?

Very poor result and Ulster going to need a few hard and unyielding new signings. Could also use a coach like Cheika.

Cheika doesn't look as great now he's Ozzie coach. He had a talented group that drove themselves. This stuff about Cheika being unyielding is guff

Some of us are running out of years.

Irrespective of the lack of basic skills shown at times and the obvious lack of quality in some positions, there are still quite a few players who are capable of playing high quality rugby. They have done so in the past and every now and then at Ulster a bit of decent play leaks out. I rarely see any sign of well thought out rugby, neither in attack or even more obviously in defence. Some of the selections are just loony. Why did he 'rotate' the side going in to this game when the players have no games for a few weeks? Idiot thinking.

The obvious conclusion some of us have arrived at is that there is a paucity of ideas and absence of LEADERSHIP from the coaches, a lack of communication between the different coaching areas and no cohesion in training. I am led to believe that what passes as 'training' rarely involves mush use of ball work and on field work. That is not the way to keep on top of things and generate on-field cohesion. Ulster can't change the squad even though some guys are sub par but the buck stops with Kiss.

He seems a very nice man and I never want ANYONE to lose their job however he has been there for the best part of 3 years and the quality of rugby has declined month by month by month under his watch. He needs to have his contract paid up at the end of this season and he needs to be profusely thanked for his endeavours and then freed up to take his skills to another club. A new broom is required. A f%ck!ng stiff one. The players need to be able to have confidence that the guy at the helm is capable. I doubt if that pertains.

Next season, if the following players are fit or fit and available or simply available for selection:
    Coetzee
    Moore
    Jordi Murphy
    Jackson
    Olding
    Payne
and with some of the promising young guys being a year older, things might look a bit more interesting and hopeful. Still not enough to win much but less likely to be an embarrassment to the shirt.

Didn't say Cheika was unyielding rather that you needed a few signings who are. If you have an attitude problem in your squad you need it dealt with sharpish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,129 ✭✭✭Granny15

Agree with all of the above. I really like Kiss but you just have to get tough and call a spade a spade if the team aren't performing.

That's well below Sters best I hate to say it but for the good of he club they should probably look for a change in staff

It's not an attitude problem at all. It's a lack of faith in what is prescribed for the players to do.

Jono gibbes is a well respected no nonsense forwards coach as far as I'm aware, it's at odds with the ulster forwards display. It could be just as simple as lacking the talent. I mean the backrow is far off test level, so much so that hendo plays 6 and timoney is your starting eight, which is what you need to compete in the knockout stages of Europe(an international test level team) Like of that ulster 8 two players would marginally make the Leinster 8 maybe 3 would make munster, some of the starters , ie the props and backrow(ignoring hendo), might make the Leinster A starting team. I don't know why there is such poor depth but I don't think a new set of coaches is gonna fix it. Might be worth focussing on pro14 for two years and blood young talent (if it exists), maybe dump the expensive foreign players until you have a shot again. If you do get a new coach get a young one and make it a five year project with no expectations for the first 3.
