"Lets start with what passes for a market here then stroll around any temples, affluent areas, barracks and then any warehouses that we might find. Eyes and ears open and lets see what we can find out."

    OOC:
    Spells for the day:
Detect magic *5 (Each is 2 turns so 100 minutes total)
    Charm person *1

I cast my first Detect magic spell as we set out to map the city.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Flak detects a strong current of magic emanating from an old house of human looking architecture, a small bit away from the city center.

OOC: It's roll under so you did very well!

Flak discovers that the house used to be occupied by a human noble who was permitted to remain when dwarves took the city some 300 years ago. Apparently the humans here had been quite warlike and expansionist, but a dwarf-elven alliance put an end to that.

People do not enter anymore, old superstitions about the place being haunted.

"Really? You're going to let me walk out? Into that? Ha! I like you! I'll kill you last!"
She claps the dwarf on the back and goes on a Kim hunt, eventually stumbling across the bepupiled blob.

"Paul, old buddy old pal. I must away to Zassan. I have ignored my Lady's voice for too long. She didn't place me beside this perfectly chaotic maelstrom so I could cower behind walls. Here,"
She places the deeds to the ship behind an eyestalk.
"I think we both know I won't be getting all the way to Zassan. If I'm still around in 89 days I will return for those deeds. Or not. Someone as clever as you should know not to offer me 'accidents' as if that's some sort of threat. I can't pass up that kind of opportunity! And now to go do something stupid. Mind my doggie till I get back? Feed her and take her for wa-er-floats?"

    Kim is a bit bewildered.

"That storm will rip you apart!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

"that is lawful propaganda spread by people who have clearly never been torn apart by a storm. I can't suffocate in the sand. I can't be tossed around once my feet leave the ground. I can't starve. I can't die of thirst. I'm encased in metal, even that storm would need a year to wear this plate away and it's only got 3 months. Yes there are hags in the storm but they steal the good and the young.im neither. I can't die out there but I'll kill myself in this place. And if I don't they will. The second that cleric is well he'll stake me with the others gone. The second my mask slips these dwarves will do the same.

I'm borrowing 2 mail shirts, a 2 handed warhammer and an ironing board. I will sail that storm wherever it takes me.

Kim hesitates. "I'd go with you, but well I would certainly die. Good luck though!"

She floats off to find Moy.

Othegre, having liberated some materials from around the fortress because no one said she can't finds the limbsmith and drags her to a blacksmiths.

"Hi honey and good morrow! The old guys up in the main hall said that you could assist me in assembling this!"
She drops a crude drawing on to the work top. Pointing at a scrawl in the centre she beams "that bit is me! It shouldn't take long, you'll just need to break the links here and here, link these up along this seam and then securely fasten them to this metal rod. I'm going sailing."

Ooc : no really, this will work, if the winds are strong enough the mail will act as a sail. I can't fall and I can carry a decent weight like that so while I have no control over where I end up, I will end up somewhere. And probably in one piece. Probably. Btw, while Simon has a dedicated compartment inside my armour I have no food for him. He can stay behind if you want.

    To Kal:
Lets take a peek inside. Check for traps and see if you can get the door open. At the first sign of trouble more then a dagger can handle we back out. Tomorrow, if necessary, when I can load up on some offensive spells we can search the place properly.

I approach the window for a cautious look inside.

[OOC: do NOT depend on Kal for any charisma checks, he is a bumbling oaf when it comes to other people. I'm actually surprised the group let him stay around this long he's so odious]

Kal checks for traps around the door and tries his thieves tools on the lock

[OOC: 56 on my lock picking check, 1 on my check traps check so a mixed bag all round]

Othegre drags her newly-fabricated contraption to the front gate. There's no fanfare, no guard of honor, no weeping mothers and shamefacedly grateful menfolk. Oh, but there's a mace leaning against the wall. Maces. Everyone's always putting maces in her path. She hates maces. She takes it anyway - maybe it's haunted or drawn to magnetic north or is actually a bone from the ear of a desert titan who will grant her wonderful boons for restoring it's hearing. A lever that opens a cave of wonders. Oh! Oh! The brain of a great wizard in a protective case, but he can still cast spells and engage in witty repartee! Maybe it's not just a heavy ball on a stick.

    "Shhhh!"
    she pats her flail.
"you are so much more than a ball on a chain. Don't listen to that mean wizard brain."

Outside she drags the board out towards the storm.
"Mother, Mistress, Destroyer, Redeemer. Into your hands I commend my life. Eh.... Ah, you know what I mean. I am yours to use and discard, my soul shall be your... actually you know what, I don't think any of the prayers take into account my.... situation. I am a can of dead flesh, malice and appetite, but I'm your can. Kick that can where you need it to be, and if it be your will then make this an awesome move and not some terrible misguided tragedy born of my racism towards short people. Hand, fist, open, blind - let's boot this storm in the behind!"

She picks up the pace into a run.

OOC : With the additional components for the Fabtabulous Contraption, my enc is at 4. And remember! Before you arbitrarily tear her limb from limb in the maelstrom, remember I'll want to see your maths - I have the calculations that show she will survive and thrive!

Kal finds a fine needle within the lock, which would deliver a memory altering drug he recognises as harnessed from a type of jellyfish off Zassan's shores.

The lock itself proves too difficult.

Flak does not see anybody moving inside.

I have a look around to be sure the area is clear and out of earshot of any passersby then I break a pane of glass and open the window.

The dwarven medics are quite busy about Moy whose vision is blurred from the amount of painkillers he's on.

"I think you're going to pull through" says a large floating orb in his vision.

"Say you're like a good Cleric right, one of law and order?"

The window opens up into a very expensive looking foyer with a single door at the end. It is unnaturally dark in here, the windows should let in more light.

Ash comes up behind her and clicks a mechanism onto Othegre's back.

"It isn't going to work without this"

The two of them are picked up buy the wind and Ash throws on a pair of goggles.

"I've to keep my apprenticeship, if the Lord Cleric ain't about it's to his friends I'll pledge my service. Now get me out of this town, the dwarves are too human."

    They take to the sky.

Over the howl of the winds, Othegre screams "What are you doing?? My calculations were for one! And also mostly based on a dream I had about a talking pegasunicorn!"
She struggles with the sail, stabilising them as they achieve altitude. There's nothing but to see but sand, or there would be if only there wasn't so much ****ing sand in the way. The rattle of millions of tiny impacts is deafening. She doesn't think about what the sand is doing to the dwarf. Another gust hits her and she angles the sail into it.

    "Hang on tight!" she calls.
    (but mutters "another sundering dwarf....")
