It is funny how people demonise Scientology and call the founder mad, fraud etc etc. How do they think Christianity was founded or Islam? By people who made similar claims.

    Or the Orange Order.

I'm not one for knocking religion, but Scientology isn't a religion. It's a money making scheme that tears individuals and families apart, right now in 2017.  It behaves apart from the law, in a way not really comparable (though reminiscent) of the CC decades ago.

The difference is that the CC did contribute to society in good as well as bad ways. Education, hospital care and charities caring for the homeless and other endeavours. Scientology lures idealistic people in, then does nothing but take their money, isolate, segregate, and intimidate.  I'm strongly agnostic but the difference is clear to me.

    Germany has the right idea.
Christianity and Islam separated continents via war and conquest for hundreds of years, something Scientology has never done. People signed up to fight in the Crusades because they got told they would burn in hell for eternity if they died now but if they fought for Christ they would revoke all sins they hold.

Back then when religion was everything and for people now it is hard to understand just how much religion was the basis for practically everything in society right up to even the 19th century in Europe and America.

    Orange Order isn't a religion.

No, just an organisation of bigots who claim the same nonsensical religious beliefs.

Some of the atheists here have gone full circle when they are defending Scientology over the Catholic church.

    Or the Orange Order.

How you managed to go from the RCC and Scientology to the OO is hard to fathom.

This is not a good thing. We need a world with less religion, not more.
Religion causes conflict and hampers progress.

Religion has always been about control, power and money.
Scientology is a huge wealth fund with billions invested.
It is funny how people demonise Scientology and call the founder mad, fraud etc etc. How do they think Christianity was founded or Islam? By people who made similar claims.

Yeah but you see we have pictures, you know real ones taken with a camera, of the founder.
He only died in the 80s.
AFAIK he openly admitted at one stage the way to make money was religion.
We also know he basically turned sci fi writing into a religion.
And some of the stuff is bonkers to be fair.
And yes we know most of the stuff from other religions is bonkers to be fair.

Actually Hubbard was not a very nice guy as can be seen with how he dreamt up the control of his followers and how they must distant themselves from non believers even if close family.
Jesus just espoused peace and being nice to one another.
Gautama Buddha appears to have been alright as well and more concerned with others.
    Likewise with Guru Nanak.
Calvin was a lawyer so need I say anymore.
Knox was a fan of execution of those he disagreed with.
Mo from Mecca/Medina was not really a nice dude and believed in conquest by force big time.

And being honest scientology would never have taken off but for it was started in the US and he got enough eejits in Hollywood to sign up.

BTW there is an opening once David Miscavige pops his clogs.
Not sure how the succession thingy works for them?

I am not allowed discuss …
