40 euro for a bottle ah mother of jesus, Do you get an escort too.

I have a bottle of Writers Tears and Jameson Black Barrel at home, both cost €50-€60. Whiskey ain't cheap outside of the ordinary

The whole point is that everything anyone knows about it to date suggests this will be very, very ordinary indeed.

Black barrel is a very nice, established blend, but it shouldn't have cost you anything approaching 50-60e. Writer's Tears is an exceptional pure pot still. Comparing the likes of the those to three year old stock from Bushmills ain't exactly a very comparison

I think you could re-phrase your statement as "Good whiskey ain't cheap".

What not just donate 15 quid to charity and use the other 15 to buy generic Irish whiskey in a supermarket that comes from the sane distillery
15 euro wouldn't get you a bottle from the distillery though.
Bushmills original is 20euro, Black Bush is €26.

I think it was more in response to the "holy Jesus, 40 for whiskey".
For whiskey drinkers, that's not a lot. As you well know ;)

Is the 3 year part confirmed? Or just an assumption that this would be lowest possible entry? I'm guessing it's a blend and not a single malt, so there's probably grain from Midleton in there too.

Edit: Had a closer look at the bottle there. Label confirms it's a grain blended.

Its alot for a new whiskey no matter what way you wanna jazz it up mellor.

It's definitely a blend anyway, says as much on the website.

Not sure how his life work would have influenced it as he is probably at this venture max 2 years and surely the whiskey is an aged 3 year old blend?

Also the name 12 is do to with crumlin post code.

flash in the pan Id imagine and will prob burn through a few quid on it.

Ah yeah, I get that but I interpreted the "40e a bottle" post as "40e for what's sure to be a bottle of piss? You could get far better for less".

On the 3yr old side of things, I think I and plenty of others are probably guilty of putting the three year legal minimum requirement and McGregor's spin about working hard for three years together.

We'll find out soon enough. As I said, I'll not be racing out to buy it but if someone offers me some, I'll give it a fair shake. It takes a whiskey to be particularly ****e for me not to drink it, so maybe I'm being too hard on the man. I'd be confident that it'll be perfectly drinkable like most bog standard Irish blends but plenty overpriced compared to them.

Unless you are buying Tesco Value whiskey you won’t get it for 15.

It’s priced at 24.99 USD which is actually cheaper than most branded Irish Whiskey.

I’ll try it myself but I’m not expecting anything out of the ordinary.
Prices in USD are not comparable to those in Ireland. So why bother with the usd price.
Aldi €19 whiskey has won many aeayrds

Where are people getting prices of 25 and 30 from? According to this it retails at €45 and is a blend chosen from 100 original options.

It's a lot for someone who never bothers with any more than powers, or drink whiskey at all. But it's not for whiskey in general imo.

I'm not jazzing anything up. I've no idea if it's worth the price without knowing what's in the blend. But why would being a new whiskey make a difference?

Ok lets do it this way.

Does Joe Bloggs in his first UFC deserve the same purse as McGregor?

    Same as;

Does a new Whiskey deserve the value of a proven whiskey?

No it does not my friend.

Ah jaysis, I'm laughing my arse off at my desk now, we're arguing over the price of whiskey :pac:

Not even close to a remotely valid, or logical, comparison.

I've just had a look at the website for the first time. The "Recipes" section is gas.

    "The Notorious"

    Ingredients
2 oz Proper No. Twelve Whiskey
    Ice

    Directions
    Fill glass with Ice
Top with Proper No. Twelve Whiskey

    The Proper Neat

    Ingredients
2 oz. Proper No. Twelve Whiskey

    Directions
Pour Proper No. Twelve Whiskey into rocks glass

The man is nothing if not a salesman. The yanks will lap all this up.

    But its really not.

You don't know whats in the blend or the quality of it to be able to say what price it is worth. The fact it is a new whiskey on the market is irrelevant, whats in the bottle is what determines it.

In NI a lot - regularly see it for ~£35ish in Asda/Sainsburys and also Amazon every now and then!

I'd like to buy a new build house. Location, spec, size, fit out etc are irrelevant. It's new, so I'm going to pay 10k for and no more.

I think this is a fair price because a guy making his UFC debut gets paid dick all in comparison to Conor McGregor. My logic is valid Mr. Housing Developer, please complete sale now.

Well if the house was unproven to be fit for purpose you would have an arguement, Nobody knows what that tastes like, so to rate it as 40 whatever bottle of Whiskey, is mental.

Lets see how long before its wound up.

I went in to buy a bottle of whiskey a few weeks a go and besides the no brand shyte, I was looking at 28 upwards for a bottle. Yupp, 45 is to much for what it is probably but I'm sure there are a ton of people who will be rushing out to buy a bottle because of brand. I wouldn't mind a bottle myself to toast when he crumples Khabib but it would be more hinting at someone else to buy me it.

Have to ****ing lol at the cocktail suggestion, basically whiskey on ice or whiskey neat, remarkable innovation :D

It depends on what you can get away with, doesn't it. It's a lot about marketing.
If he prices it cheap then people will think it's a cheap whiskey.

Friends of mine designed a new whiskey brand and the company charged €1800 for one of the single grain varieties of it. The €55 variety sold out.
And this was a brand people thought would fail as it had a more modern design than most whiskeys.

Is Gunpowder Gin worth €50? Not really, but because it's marketed well they get away with charging that much.

Can we quell the Buckfast talk until there is something official saying these things. People have ordered bottles and there is no need to create panic over hearsay and a supposed whatsapp message. If it is Buckfast we will hear about it.

God be with the days of my J1 in Berkeley where you could get a double shot of Jim Beam for $3.50.
