so is this it? watching tv3 here and theyre saying to stay indoors as the worst of it is currently in dublin. Im sorry but its windy yes, but it has been blown out of all proportions if this is it. Its bone dry outside. Im sure its alot worse down south but so far its no where near as bad as it was made out to be. Or has it not hit dublin yet? Granted 2 deaths is 2 deaths too many so I assume its alot worse elsewhere.

You know nothing about that man, what he was doing or the circumstances of his death.

Kindly quit posting your self-righteous b0llocks here.

Good job to the weather service advising people to stay indoors. Im sure a lot of poeple would have been injured if everyone had gone about daily business.

Yes but the decision to shut them today had to be made yesterday and it wasn't worth the risk. These storms could move East at any time and that has to be accounted for.

Storm is pretty bad in Wicklow, certainly hit the east

Ambulance suggests injuries. Hopefully not serious.

When will the gobs***** going on about a non-event grow up and get a bit of sense?

They enjoy the attention and love to make it all about them and their nonsense. Looking infantile and mentally challenged is worth it somehow.

Our tree network obviously needs to be upgraded if its causing all this hassle.

Am in Wicklow, right on the coast.
It was supposed to hit very hard here and it hasn't.

4-5 is supposed to be peak gales for us here.

    I've seen worse.
    Electricity is still working fine.

I can only comment on what im seeing outside my own window. and that is one of being underwhelmed so far. Yes for anyone to die is terrible, but where I am it appears to have been blown out of all proportions. I was expecting far far worse, unless of course the 1pm time for dublin was wrong and were yet to see the worst of it. I dont know where you are but to call anyone a gob****e for doing nothing other than saying what its currently like where they are is a bit much.

I think in future all weather reports should be given to everyone individually for the weather immediately outside their window. Only sensible approach really.

The forecasted track of the storm moved, as is nature's wont. The greater Dublin area was always going to be the most sheltered part of the country anyway, given the direction.

There's enough damage done thus far to suggest that erring on the side of caution was the wiser approach.

maybe because most electrical poles are like 50 years old in rural areas then you have ton of tress growing inches away doesnt need a gust to break the circuit.

This is incorrect. Most of the poles and conductor (wires) in rural areas were replaced in the years 2003 to 2011. Trees are the problem. They fall on to the wires and break them.

ESB infrastructure is woeful here, 350,000 without power from abit of wind. For most, it's abit of wind, the few Powerful gusts recorded have been in remote areas.

Over 850,000 people live in Kerry, Waterford and Cork - the latter of which is easily be biggest and has been battered. Turner's Cross is about 1-2km from the dead centre of Cork, that is not a 'remote area'.
