Skerries Rd Dublin, nothing more than a windier than average day. God bless the people that died though the chainsaw accident sounds horrific.

Shows how little you care about the poor bastard that might have to use a chainsaw to rescue you in this weather then doesn't it?

    Stop the dramatics

I've been out in all weathers when I had to and would rather have been at home. Going at a tree with a chainsaw in this weather is like putting out a fire by sitting on it.

As for me making the 200yard walk to the gym, I'm sure I'll make it given my walk is fairly sheltered

You don't know the reasons for his decision to do that, what were the circumstances.

Maybe wait until details before criticising the actions of a dead man. He obviously had reasons

It was very lucky that the government did close the schools Today. The amount off tree/slates/roofs/etc that have fallen is unreal and it would have effected people up the country returning home from school.

I really do have question the intelligence of people who question whether schools should have stayed open.

I'm not sure why some people are still trying to play down this event. Do we judge these events by how many people have been killed? Only two people killed…so far, what a let-down eh lads?

Just looking at the twitter feed from Dublin fire brigade

    https://twitter.com/search?q=dublin+fire+brigade

    and their interactive incidents map

    https://t.co/ZkjJ1qTtuN

The loss of life would be much higher at this stage if we had hundreds of thousands of people milling about on the streets with trees, roofs and power cables falling on top of them.
The red level weather alert has probably saved a number of lives today.

Not likely. Looking out on my street now not even a upturned wheelie bin. Bit blowy and Dublin bus coming back into service at 7pm

6 am this morning in Greystones though, not exactly anywhere near the storm at that point.

Exactly, the faux outrage towards that post is ridiculous.

    Plenty of context to it.

And I don't even like the "pear" !

Just went out to the chippers there to get a lunch box. On the way back some trees were threatening to crush my chicken & chips. Thankfully I made it back and my lunch is safe.

Did you get some curry sauce for the chips?

Unless there was somebody under the tree he had no business going anywhere with a chainsaw.

Most is due to fallen trees and not the Networks themselves falling. Their networks are actually extremely robust and have often been complemented by international bodies for the investment they have undertaken. But, enjoy the moan....a bit of wind indeed.

maybe because most electrical poles are like 50 years old in rural areas then you have ton of tress growing inches away doesnt need a gust to break the circuit.

It must be a bad storm. Its not that bad here in Dublin but IM guessing its worst in the west. 2 people died from being hit by falling trees, that doesnt happen very often

Depends where you are in the country. Galway, Cork and places in the west are getting battered but Dublin is not that bad, so far. Schools could re-open in Dublin tomorrow once they have been assessed as safe.

Some nasty pictures of cars hit by trees on rte ie

Weather forum has been fantastic for updates on this whole thing really.

Yes but the decision to shut them today had to be made yesterday and it wasn't worth the risk. These storms could move East at any time and that has to be accounted for.

Emergency services are dealing with two incidents where trees have fallen on cars in Co Louth.
One of those is at Ravensdale, which is north of Dundalk town, and the scene has been attended by gardaí, the national ambulance service and the fire service.

Ambulance suggests injuries. Hopefully not serious.

When will the gobs***** going on about a non-event grow up and get a bit of sense?
