Close enough all the way through before we pulled away just before ht.

The footballers are losing to Cavan by two points at the moment. We'd want to buck up our ideas or it'll be division three football next year.

All over. Division 3, here we come. Shocking start to the year. Tailteann Cup beckoning

    Cork lose by a 1 point, 0-16 v 0-17

Fahy getting sent off in the second half certainly didn't help but that is yet another performance that was not good enough.

Lost by 1. Played most of the 2nd half with 14

The footballers never surprise me anymore. They always show flashes but then implode.

I saw they were 3 points up at half time then 15 mins later losing by 3 points. We also didn't score from play in the second half.

That kind of stuff says it all and happens too much to us.

Serves them right. They deserve to go down there are a shambles. Tailteann cup it is.

Shocking result for the footballers. Winning your home games is a must!

also John Fintan Daly shouldn’t be left near a microphone again! Awful commentary from him!

For a county like Cork the biggest county in Ireland with the most amount of clubs, to be plying our trade in division three is an absolute disgrace so it is. We appointed John Cleary ten years too late, although my issue here is more with the players. Apparently some of them could barely be arsed to get on the bus to Donegal. Are they hungry enough to achieve success? Well on the evidence we've seen so far you couldn't say yes.

I said after that 2010 all Ireland win that we'll never go twenty years without an all Ireland ever again. I was right in a way i suppose seeing that we're well on our way to going over twenty years without an all Ireland in football, as well as almost approaching the 20 year without all Ireland success landmark in hurling.

We have a lovely shiny new stadium, but no mistake about it we are a pitiful shambles of a GAA county and have been for a hell of a long time. We can only go sustaining ourselves on past glories from 20 and 30 years ago for so long imo.

Cleary should just step away now and all the selectors pack it in for FFS.

I think we should stop playing football.

    It's gone beyond embarrassing now.

Look, we just need more fine strong fit lads who can run in a straight line and bring the ball into the tackle and cough it up. Any fancy Dan who can kick the ball over the bar or even attempt a pass forward must be ran immediately.

It went beyond embarrassing a long time ago mate. The biggest county in Ireland, and we're still only on single digits when it comes to senior football all Irelands won. We just don't do this football lark very well do we?😂

Management earning a fortune and all the Players off to Portugal on a team holiday in the gap week after the match next week.

    All wrong.

We could do with players with a bit of dog in them both codes. We've been a bunch of walter the softie fancy dans in both codes at senior level for way too long.

Great footballing man though. We should have given him the senior job at one stage. The ship has well passed on that though at this stage.

He had great success at club level. Maybe questions need to be asked about the coaching of the younger players. Obviously they aren't getting quality coaches in who actually know something about the game. How is it our neighbours rarely have bad years in football. They know how to coach properly and have got the right people involved, that's the difference and they know something about the game as well unlike our monkeys in Cork.

Someone said to me before that we should recruit a Kerry man as manager. I laughed him out of it. A Kerry man managing Cork shure would you go away outta that! Looking back in hindsight though it wasn't that bad a suggestion at all. Perhaps we should bring Micko out of retirement for one last job.🤣 Billy Morgan is still involved in football as well. He's getting on a bit now but he should be involved at some level with the senior team imo.

I'm going get slated for this but anyway I'm going say it.

I think we should just stop wasting time funding football in county. Yes have a county team. Forget about anything outside or anything that's going cost lot for football.

Football is just not popular in Cork. Crowds are awful for footballers.

But we are a county that won't have debt paid for another generation or so. We need get successful and only hope is hurlers. Yep it's been 20 years, yep we been soft as **** over last decade. But our best hope is still the hurlers.

Still no guarantees but cork needs succes sooner than later. If we got successful in hurling again hopefully interest grows and maybe we can pick football up with it.

No point funding a county team that isn't even in top half anymore. Its only hurting gaa more and more.

    What a load of nonsense.

The hurlers are well funded, they lack for absolutely nothing. Ridiculous in the extreme to suggest that more money would turn around their lack of achievements.

Football is plenty popular in Cork. Played and enjoyed by thousands, from players to spectators. Less popular than hurling but so is Everything else in fairness.

Only funding a team if they are in the top half - such tripe.

What would actually hurt the GAA is your theory - plain and simple.

Management under pressure for sure but the players are a disgrace to the jersey as well. I've said it before you'd be proud if you had a family member representing the county. Nowadays you'd not rather let people know....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,750 ✭✭✭✭ACitizenErased

Anecdotally (first hand anecdote, I might add), the players were raging over the fact they had two overnight trips to start the league. Shows the attitude that they have. Most of them can't be arsed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭Seadin

Cork deserve to go down. They aren't killing themselves to try and stay up. They are a shambles. Something must change as we aren't getting better.

yeah next 3 games are huge lose one and it would almost look like a done deal , very poor showing so far , and when you consider the performance last summer against kerry its a huge drop off

cavan are no mugs won ulster a couple of years ago , their league position up to now has deceived them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,309 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Absolutely Cavan have improved a lot in recent years. I still saw this as a winnable game though seeing that we were at home. It was a game we had to win but we didn't. This defeat very much plunges Cork football into crises now. We made a decent bit of progress last year, but so far we've gone way backwards on that.

We'd be barely any better than Kilkenny with regards to football if we did that.

To be honest we have been going nowhere since 2014. Going backwards when making progress. Terrible setup and very hard to follow them when they are this inconsistent. I think we must go down to division 3 and Tailteann cup for something to change with Cork football.

We never recovered from Brian Cuthbert getting the job. The first thing he did was clear out a lot of the senior players. That created a leadership vacuum, and we've spent the past decade just aimlessly drifting in mediocrity. At least the hurlers won a few Munsters and have shown some flicker of life at times over the past ten years.
