The shot that came off the crossbar which would have given them the lead was a real turning point.

Haven played themselves into a position to challenge but it wasn't to be.

I don't think other Counties ban media from monthly board meetings.

    Not really open & transparent

Cill na Martra up against it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,365 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Plenty possession and well in the game but the wides are killing them, 4 down at HT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭Seadin

Wrong options taken when they had chances. Can't see them winning this.

The amount of wides by Cill na Martra have demoralised them. The corner back has scored 3 points..think he should be moved forward.

They will be proper gutted in fairness. They were doing very well in gerneral play but inside the 40 they were simply brutal - 16 or so windes and conditions were quite good.

Yesterday saw 2 fairly poor performances, either way you slice it, 3 finals, 3 losses.

Goodish win for Cork v Clare and the expected win for the footballers.

desperately frustrating today, just couldn't kick a score

worth remembering the difference in grades when looking these finals, our 5th grade v 3rd in KK and our 3rd v 2nd in KK. likewise today was our 3rd v 2nd in Armagh

You can't expect to win an All Ireland final with 16 wides. They will be gutted, they will never again get a better chance of winning an All Ireland. They had plenty of possession to win it and sadly left it after them. Number 10 missing a 20 yard free in front of the posts summed it up really.

A good win today from the hurlers with an experimental team. We even had over 20 wides. Disappointing news is that Declan Dalton came on as sub but went off injured minutes later with what is meant to be a metatarsal injury in his foot. He was only just back from the same injury in his other foot!

Good news is that Mark Coleman, Tim O’Mahony, and Alan Connolly are all ready to come back for the league.

Damien and Conor Cahalane and Niall O’Leary are all being given extra time as they were playing with Castlehaven.

Patrick Horgan, Seamus Harnedy, Conor O’Callaghan, Ben Cunningham, and Micheál Mullins are all ready to play against Limerick on Wednesday in Rathkeale.

I think things are going nicely!

Here is Conor Lehanes goal from today

The thing today is, Cill na Matra were more than good enough to win today. they had a way more possession but they had no one on the forwards that could score points. They weren't miles off them, but it was a case that they threw it away. They will be gutted. They were the better team for alot of it but didn't put their dominance on the field of play on the scoreboard. 16 wides is unforgivable in a final.

hard luck to them , my crowed played them in round 1 in munster , they devoured us , michael dineen especially the wides killed them today but cullyhana were excellent in defence they put some amount of pressure on the kickers today

they were fantastic hosts back in november i wish them the best of luck on becoming senior premier in the next few years , its not beyond them a great club in fairness

really good game in the hurling today ye must be happy at the tempo pat ryan has ye playing at this time of year , it looks like speed wont be a problem for ye come championship , but like ourselves the wides have to stop

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,314 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Speed won't be a problem for sure. We need the younger guys to take the pressure off Hoggie and Seamie Harnedy though. The main thing is developing the toughness and physicality to take on the Limerick machine in the championship.

The best way to stop Limerick is try and make sure they don't get out of Munster imo. They seem to take it to another level entirely when they hit croke park. I wouldn't mind if we do win the league all the same. We haven't won it in twenty six years after all! It didn't do Limerick any harm winning it last year either.

Ye have over 120 clubs playing hurling between hurling and dual clubs (open to correction there). We have only 38 hurling clubs, and pretty much split 3 ways (12 senior, 12 inter, 14 junior).

It's not like for like due to the number of participating clubs and population difference. So while in terms of club championship tiers it's our 2nd v ye're 3rd and our 3rd v ye're 5th at junior, if Cork was to be split along our lines, our intermediate champions would be facing the 37th side in Cork and our juniors would be facing the 73rd (approximately). Obviously that would make no sense to have 36 teams in senior and intermediate in Cork, so ye have something different that works for Cork. As we have for Kilkenny.

Each county has to have it's structure to suit the number of clubs in it. Nothing wrong with that.

Our championship in the lower levels just happen to be fairly strong and usually very competitive. Bennetsbridge for example went from a Junior team in 2014 to Senior finalists in 2018 (losing by 3 points to Ballyhale that year, who went on to win the AI) winning both AI's at junior and intermediate. It's not unusual to see Kilkenny clubs be in the final of the above grade within a year or two, there doesn't tend to be much between the bottom half of the higher/top half of the lower teams, and the short knockout run can see them climb quickly. The reverse is also true, my own club (Carrickshock) was senior only a handful of years ago, we barely escaped relegation to Junior this year. And having it split into 3 even sizes so long ago was arguably the making of it, Initially it was going to be 8, 8, 16 to concentrate the standard when the abandoned the two county boards system and started setting up the championships properly, but it was felt our clubs would develop better overall if we went with 12/12/14. And it's worked for us.

And I'm pretty sure in time, the new system will work better for Cork. Anyone I've talked to from Cork the last few years have said the hurling championships are the better for it, more even and more entertaining and of a generally good standard. Eventually that'll see Cork clubs improve.

Besides, Cork clubs pretty much dominate Munster and rack up AI's too (2nd in roll of honour in both) in Junior and Intermediate, one bad weekend doesn't change that either, ye're likelier than anyone other than Kilkenny to win both AI's next year.
